    DoCoMo Arigato, Mr Robato

  • I thought there's a Japanese government scheme for free wifi in Japan for tourists

    • Hey blue_panther9_9,
They are trying to roll that out. At the moment the wifi network isn't quite good enough to probably rely on for consistent coverage, especially if you're going to leave popular city spots. But it is the land of technology, who knows what they can think of in due time!

Unlimited 3G data at 200kbps max?

    • I believe so mate.

      • Hi Store Rep,
Do you have special for Europe countries? I would prefer if it's data unlimited or about 3Gb.

        • We are still working on products for Europe. When were you heading there?

        • @TravelSIMSDirect: about August 22

    • Yeah the 3G is pretty slow, felt like dial up

  • Rep, I'm currently in Tokyo. The "World Travel SIM" I purchased from you does not work in Japan (you confirmed it would). The 7 day data SIM I purchased off you works fine.

    • Glad to hear the Softbank Japan SIM is working well for you. The other card you are referring to the WorldSIM International Roaming Card. We have never had any issues with this card (and it has been used in Japan by myself). May very well be a slight settings issue on your phone or dial out issues ect. Please email us and I am certain we could help you :)

  • Sad, we are going around Oct/Nov. Will there be any deal for those months? i.e. activate before 1 Nov.

    • I am sure there will be, not to worry!

Can get 14 day Unlimited data SIM for ¥3840 (about $41 in todays rate) from here http://rental.cdjapan.co.jp/index_en_jpy_10.html

This is their everyday price, so no limits on dates. Also on Docomo 3G/4G network.

      Hi meku,
Thanks for that info! Seems like a good service they have got going, but here is a couple of differences between the two services:
      - Our card offers 200mb of 4G data a day before going to Unlimited 3G. The cdJapan rental is only 110mb of 4G before slowing down to 3G speeds,
      - Our services include having your SIM card forever (it is not a rental) and it is delivered to your door is Australia well before you ever leave. Obviously you won't have to worry about losing the card, issues with having the card delivered to a hotel on the day of your arrival in Japan, returning the card once you have finished your trip ect.
In summary we experience more costs importing the cards into Australia and shipping them to Aussie residents (though we minimise the costs the end customer has experiences - we sacrifice a lot of margins on all our products to add value to the Aussie consumer + adding convenience to them as well).
      - Obviously we avoid international credit card charges also because we are Australia based.
Overall when you consider a superior product and much more convenience and support from us, a direct comparison between the two cards and services like the one above isn't accurate.

      • Not to mention we have a stress free, money back guarantee on all products and back them with around the clock support. In comparison the alternate service you have mentioned has the following conditional, refund policy that charges 840 yen to return your card if it is incompatible with your device:
"If our SIM card were incompatible with your device, you can send it back to us within 2 days from the start date (the postmark date will be considered proof), then the charge from us will be 840 yen (Shipping(540 yen) + Handling fee(300 yen)) only. On the day we receive the item back, we will cancel the original payment and charge 840 yen on your credit card. Please test your device as soon as you receive our SIM card. If it were incompatible and you wish to get a refund, enclose the refund request slip we provide with the SIM card and return it to us, so that we know your device was not compatible." - cdJapan.

        • How can we test our sim card here? I assume we will only activate it in Japan and have to send it back to you guys back in Australia?

Also, do you have any card that can be activate later this year?

        • @humbala: That's right you would first use the card once in Japan. You wouldn't need to return it back to us, as we sell them outright (we do not rent them out to you). This means you can keep the SIM and recharge during future trips or just dispose of it after you're done! In regard to testing, we do have an over 98% success rate when it comes to stress free compatibility with Aussie mobiles. In the very rare circumstances of issues we do have and exercise a full money back guarantee!
We will have cards for later this year, you can either email us and preorder a SIM (which will shipped to you 1-2 months before your trip) or wait until closer to your departure date.

Thanks for sharing though, I will talk to our guys and try and twist the arms of our suppliers to fight for the best deals for Aussie!

  • Hi Rep,

I am going to be traveling in Japan in August. I believe it was mentioned above that there is a 200kbs speed limit on the 3g. Does your Softbank 7 day 1.8 GB card have the same speed limit?

    • +1

No the softbank japan has all 1.8gb at 3G but a much faster band of 3g. Up to 7.2mb/s. The first 200mb a day of the docomo would be faster than the Softbank but anything after that Softbank has the superior 3G.

  • if I'm travelling to Japan next year can I activate this then have the 14 days start when I arrive in Japan or does activation count as first use?

    • Unfortunately its activated after first use so you will either need to contact us and preorder or wait until next year and buy it from us closer to your departure date.

  • i just purchased one because i have no idea which hotel i'm staying at, so i'm just going to rely on this on arrival!
The last time i was there I struggled to get a sim until 1 week in.

This time i'm there exactly 14days so it's perfect. A bit more expensive than http://www.bmobile.ne.jp/english/ but it's delivered in Australia!

    I hope it doesn't disappoint!

  • i'm also going to be in Korea at around that time. Do you suggest I buy a sim online? or just buy it when I arrive?

    Thanks

    • Unfortunately not too sure about Korea to be honest, sorry.

  • Just purchased thanks :)
