    Another glitch or ?

    • Maybe. I didn't think you could book an AA itinerary originating in AU since a few years ago. Makes QF sad.

  • Pretty good, for $749 you can fly direct!

  • -1

    Whoo! American Airlines though..

    • +1

So you are saying they are not 'operated by Qantas ' ?

  • Keep in mind with the Qantas price glitch a number of skyscanner deals were cancelled. Other booking sites didn't have this issue

  • Many of the other fares of $500 we're honoured by QF.

    • This one would be on AA's dime instead of QF's, so the result might be different.

  • +6

All these fares are on AA.com

I just found Melbourne - Dallas and then Lax Mel for 2459 for 3 Adults,

    That is 819 each.

I priced it on Qantas and they want $1389 each.

    Def a Deal..

EDIT: Booked and its now appearing in my QFF page..

    MEL-JFK $869 in Feb 2016, nicee

  • -1

So do you fly American Airlines or Qantas??
Never flown AA, would prefer the Red Roo??
    Anyone flown AA??

    • +4

you fly on Qantas planes if the flights say Operated by Qantas

      • AA fly's most sector for Qantas in CONUS. Same for Qantas where they fly for all AA tickets sold for travel in AUS.

      • Cheers

    • Pretty sure American Airlines does NOT fly to Australia. All their flights operated by Qantas.

      • +1

Not correct - true until recently but AA has resumed flying directly to Australia.

        http://www.smh.com.au/business/aviation/qantas-and-american-…

"Qantas Airways adds a new flight between Sydney and San Francisco and alliance partner American Airlines launches flights between Sydney and Los Angeles

But American will fill that capacity gap by adding daily flights on its flagship 777 product from Sydney to Los Angeles, which features fully-flat seats, all with aisle access, along with a bar in its first-class and business-class cabins. It will depart from the luxurious new Tom Bradley International Terminal at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), giving customers access to Qantas's new business and first class lounges.

It will be the first time American has flown to Australia since the 1990s, and the US carrier will share revenue with Qantas as part of their trans-Pacific joint venture agreement"

        • I don't think any of the AA flight schedule has been loaded yet. It's not bookable anywhere.

        • @GalaxyNexus: Correct, not bookable yet. Still awaiting approval.

  • $960 Brisbane to Vancouver

    • Dates?

      • Feb/March next year

      • Sorry, forgot it's USD price so it's $960USD

  • MEL - SFO in March 2016, return April - AUD$820. Great price!

  • GO GO GO !!

  • Don't forget to get travel insurance soon after buying the ticket!

    • +1

Most credit cards include travel insurance

  • If you use the aa.com website make sure you're on the US site and not the Australian site. The benefit of the AA site is that it shows you the prices for +/- 3 days. From what I can see, the glitch seems to be that the Fuel Surcharge (YQ) has been left off.

  • Just booked SYD/JFK/SYD FOR March 2016 all confirmed and in my frequent flyer account

    • How much?

    • How much was JFK?

      • Saw some for $840 AU …. crazy price

  • +2

Wow … the gift that keeps on giving. LAX this year … NY next! Got holidays covered!

  • +2

fyi, to all the people booking, I booked through expedia the FIRST time and didnt get cancelled.

on another note, just booked for my family, now its a family vacation

    • I did priceline the first time and no cancellation. Noticed this time they tacked on a $7 charge for ticketing though. How dare they! ;)

  • Done. LA on qantas for $800.

  • I see that these are refundable. Anyone know up until which point?

  • +1

Looks to be another pricing glitch. Go for it. Maybe use expedia for the 24 hr cancellation policy if in doubt?

  • just a head up, after I purchase my SYD - LAX ticket on QF flight, I login to my QF account and notice that baggage is not included in the fare. to buy a baggage allowance is $123 per sector!!!!

    • +2

I think it might be best to call AA

on AA.com it lists the bags as

      $25 for the first checked
      bag,
      $35 for the second,
      $100 for the 3rd, 4th and
      5th,
$200 for the 6th and over

      • the pricing that I got was from the Qantas site when I login to manage my booking!
        thanks for the additional info

        • Im not sure now.. its pretty messy.. i have NFI.. If worse comes to worse.. Ill just get a bag for return..

          Edit:

So I just called AA and the lady said as its transpacific it includes 2 x 23kg bags. I asked if they had
and documents on that and she said not really

Now i 100% agree with you its not showing on Qantas..

Maybe ill call Qantas tomorrow and get to the bottom.

I had to book my Infant daughter separately and see has its listed on her itinerary

Here is the link on AA.com

          http://www.americanairlines.com.au/i18n/travelInformation/ba…

          it says

Charges to / from U.S. Domestic

          Region Bag 1 Bag 2 Bag 3 Bag 4+
          U.S. Domestic $25 $35 $150 $200
          Mexico / Caribbean / Central America $25 $40 $150 $200
          Brazil $0 $0 $85 $85
          South America $0 $0 $150 $200
          Transatlantic $0 $100 $200 $200
          Transpacific $0 $0 $200 $200

        • @whoistheg:

Did you end up calling Qantas to confirm whether baggage is included?

Reading both the AA and Qantas websites, I would assume baggage is included in the fair - though the Nil baggage on my ticket concerns me when others seem to have baggage allowances.

        • +1

          @billbro: I can confirm it's 2x 23kg bags on an economy fare

        • +1

          @billbro:

Yeah i called AA and they said 2 x 23kg bags, I don't have any official documents with this on though.

          All very confusing

        • @whoistheg:

Indeed it is. There's nothing there when checking the AA reference on AA.com and nothing in Qantas/CheckMyTrip using the Qantas PNR.

Would be nice if the etickets had this listed to relieve any anxiety!

    • :(

    • The $123 is for an additional bag. "Baggage is included with every Qantas fare."

  • Thanks, OP. I'm not missing out on this one! Does anyone know what the baggage costs are? And, with Expedia did you use .com or .com.au?

  • This is a real shame. Already going in November, can't convince the better half that we should go again in Late January. Good luck all.

  • +1

It says the flight stops by Melbourne, yet isn't cheaper to get on at Melbourne for a direct flight.. Airline logic.

  • +2

found ~ $710 AUS Melb to La in January which is pretty good

  • -2

Anyone able to find any cheap deals for BNE to LA early next year?

  • Thanks OP,

    Booked multi-city SYD - LAX - HNL - SYD end Jul/Aug

    • how much and through skyscanner?

      • +2

        $2130 for two,
it sent me to hello world.com.au

  • $840 to NYC is very tempting but hotel is so expensive. $200 per night for a room that doesn't even have a bath room.

    • I saw some Hilton brand hotels for $139US without tax in January.

    • AIRBNB :)

  • What's the best search tool to use to find the cheapest return flights from Adelaide?(Sep-Dec) or maybe just add some domestics to Syd or Melb?

    • I got about $860AU ADL to LAX via Melb in Nov/Dec on the AA website. Seems about or better what you'd pay with domestics anyway, without the hassle.

      • I just used the Melbourne links above, then changed the depature to ADL. Got $666US! But would like to know how they found those dates (Oct-Nov)?

  • BNE - JFK 840AUD 17/3/16 - 11/4/16 just booked, confirmed and ticketed from expedia.com.au. AA operated by Qantas.

  • +8

Oh holy hell. Log in to OzB after a few wines and I couldn't pass up the $840 flight to NYC. Bought. Thanks so much OP. Wonder how Sober Morning Wampus will feel about this

    • +7

OK, I'm half impressed with Drunk Wampus and half WHAT THE HELL WAMPUS I TOLD YOU NOT TO GO ON OZBARGAIN AFTER A NIGHT OUT

  • Anyone travelling with United check the baggage allowance!

  • want to travel to fly to new york but return from LA by selecting two one way tickets - mel-NY, then LA-Mel. why are one way tickets 3 times the price?

    • Book it as a multi-city not one way tickets and then it works. Try using Expedia or Helloworld to do multi city booking.

  • OP you should update! You can book via the AA website directly for these dates! Which I'm sure people will feel more comfortable buying from rather than a third party website! :)

    • I cant find any dates :( It says like 800$ each way!

  • Does this count towards your Qantas frequesnt flyer points?

  • Looks like the deal ended

    • Yeah, the fare for SYD-LAX just went up by around 800 :-(

Was gonna pull the trigger too, but had to wake the missus up to talk her in to it :-/

      Oh well…
