  • For the uninitiated, this is in Melbourne.

ps.: the thursday event details are:
Albert Park Grand Prix Circuit, Albert Park, VIC
    Thu 31 Mar 2016, 10:30 AM

    • Melbourne, Australia? ☺

      • +4

        Melbourne, Australia, Earth

        • Which solar system though?

    • -1

Thanks, I thought it was still in Adelaide :P

    • Keep in mind that the leaked 2016 F1 calendar has not been confirmed yet by the FOM…

  • +2

Can't be any worse than this years championship..

    • Red Bull aint a sure thing for next year

      • +2

Who knows.. latest rumor they will have Mercedes engines

        • +1

then the FIA will change the rules and Honda will be the best team :(

being a Webber fan has jaded me

        • +1

@JohnnieB: Being an F1 fan has jaded me

        • @cvas: formula e my friend - you may be converted

        • That's only if you like slow cars and no sound. Tried watching Formula E, three letters Zzz

  • -7

Purchase tickets 9 months before an event? Nah….

  • Do children need to pay? Like 3 year old?

    • Under 12 are free

      • Thanks

      • do we still need to get a ticket for kids under 12 or can we just turn up with them and they can get in?

    • -5

Keep in mind that if you haven't been to a GP before that it is is incredibly loud - each car produces around 134 decibels (human pain threshold is 130db), even with the cars on the other side of the park it can be painful with out ear protection, children should definitely have proper hearing protection ie proper earplugs or safety earmuffs.

      • +5

That was pre 2014.. No days these cars make as much noise as your vacuum cleaner..

        • +3

Nope, they are certainly quieter than before but kids would definitely still need earmuffs/earplugs. Especially since the V8s and Supercars which go around earlier are as loud as ever.

          Source: Went this year.

        • +1

          @Devils Advocate:

Agreed. Beyond all this macho talk, they are still loud, just not as loud as before.

And yes the V8 supercars which also feature are just as loud as they've always been.

I suspect the people saying f1 cars are quiet are the same ones i see each morning blasting their ears to dysfunction on the train.

        • +3

They might not be as loud now that they are only running V6's (official websites state 134db over sites state over 100db) but it would still be too loud for children without ear protection, after all you wouldn't want to take your children only to have them crying with a headache and have to leave and miss the race (a child's hearing is a lot more sensitive than adults).

Why the all negs??? I'm just trying to give people a heads up so that they can take their kids and have a great day, even the V8 super cars are bloody loud.

        • -2

          @BigglesKDH:
134 db if you stick you head in the engine. Being 100m meters away the sound pressure drops quite significantly

        • +1

I used to hear them from my office 10km away.

This year I struggled to hear them from my house 500m away.

        • @Roary: At 100m distance from 134db the sound level is still 94db - still quite loud, obviously these new cars are no where near as screeching as v8's, v10's etc of old F1 so the sound level isn't as painful and is most likely more low end rather than high pitched.

      • +1

        Weak as

    • out of curiosity: is it "Safe" to bring kids to a F1 race? Wondering about the noise of racing F1, might hurt their ears? Nope?

      • +1

There are free earplugs you can grab from the information booths, and make sure you slap on the free sunscreen they have as well. Do that early though, as the earplugs do run out.

    • +1

You might want to bring a tennis umpire chair along for the kid.

  • +3

    I don't have any friends that like F1 :-(

    • lol, same problem

      • lets have a OZB F1 meet up?

        • I am keen :)

        • @lancedefrance:
          @JohnnieB
          @Son ofa Zombie
          @Flying Ace

Is anyone interested in taking part in this deal - I can buy 2/4 tickets, the other person(s) can direct deposit the $51.6825 and I can email tickets…

  • Damn it. I am always busy with work during that period.

    • +8

      pit crew?

      • nah writing reports and shit. Pit crew work would be bad ass.

  • Bought, thanks!

  • +9

26, also the amount of engines he will use in 2015

  • +1

What are the chances of a flight deal coming up soon? Just checked flights from Syd and it's almost $1k for 2 adults and a child!! What the?

    • its 9 months away so there will surely be something in that time.

    • Drive? 8 hours and then you also have wheels while in Melbourne.

  • -4

    Bring it back to Adelaide.

    • +4

      Let's not

      • I'd swap the F1 with the Tour down under (TDU) any day. TDU is cheaper to run and brings in more money for the state. I don't get all the South Australian's complaining, cause if they hadn't lost the F1 they wouldn't have been innovative enough to start the TDU. Good on them for that!

      • Why not? You can't seriously think the Melbourne course is better than the Adelaide street circuit.

        • +2

It's been done. Forwards, not backwards.

  • -4

Ha Vic could clearly not run a motorsport if it tried.

    • +2

      Still better than Radelaide

    • You sound upset. Go check out some churches over there or something.

  • Sorry but I couldn't find the answer anywhere on the website: what events are running on each of the days?

    • +1

      Generally Thursday - support races
      Friday - FP1 + 2
      Saturday - FP3 + qualifying
      Sunday - race

  • Are the John PLayer Special lotus still racing ?

  • Anyone want to go halves in 2 tickets before this expires ?

  • Thanks OP! Will be my first GP in over a decade!

  • Thanks bought. First GP ever. Only bought the Sunday race, is Saturday really worth it?

    • +1

      Saturdays great you see everything.
      F1 practice + Qual. lots of F1 race time + V8 Races.
TBH I think Saturday's better than Sunday.
Fridays not bad either 2 F1 practice sessions + V8's.
The V8 Super Cars sound amazing there are a few spots at the end of the straight where they back up nicely.
I was lucky enough last year to get given a corporate ticket middle of the straight. Found the Sunday race a bit boring. Tho did get a tour of a V8 garage that was neat.
I probably had more fun two years earlier with my 2 year old son G/stand seat on the Friday.

      • Thanks mate, I'll have a look into Saturday tix if they go on sale again :D

  • Did anyone get an email about joining their gold club for buying a 4-day pass? I only bought one day… Seems strange.
