Oh…..I think 3GB is the sweet spot now. I noticed a very significant improvement in speed and fluidity when moving from G2 to G3 (2GB to 3GB Ram), the CPU is only slightly faster. 2GB struggles a bit if you like using home screen widgets.
It's all up to the user. Minimal apps, no games, no widgets etc, for under $500 = 2GB RAM is fine.
Zenfone 2 4GB Ram for cheaper.
My note 4 and tab s both would have only around 1gb free ram with nothing running in the background despite having 3gb of ram. I found on the devices that have 2gb of ram, still have around 1gb free. I guess the manufactures add more ram because they need it for their skin of Android and because of the higher resolution displays.
I think 2GB is plenty, the only concern for me personally is the 16gb no sd card

Maybe OnePlus one? Though I don't know which one would be considered better. Camera on the OPO is not great, but battery life is pretty good. Similar price point.
