D-Link DCH-M225 Wi-Fi Audio Extender - $39 @ JB Hi-Fi (Instore or Online)

90

Ive been looking for a wifi range extender and this one seems to fit the bill for what I need, and seems to much cheaper than those selling on eBay. You can also use it to extender you audio around your house.

-Stream your audio to anywhere within your wireless network using DLNA capable devices or Airplay
-Extend your home broadband connection to enjoy a wireless connection, further
-Twin internal antenna

I would definitely consider DLink Ethernet over Powerline kit for $39 in ALDI over this.

  • Could I stream pandora from my phone to this thing?

Price is good according to static ice.

  • I had the non-audio version, and i don't think it worked properly. I'm not sure if it's faulty or not, but by repeating the range, it essentially creates another SSID which you have to connect to. So you gain on the range but the speed suffers, at least in my case I used it to extend the range for a two-storey house. It reached where wifi signal was weak before, but it also dropped out often (the 2nd SSID) I'm not sure if it's just D-Link or in order to use an extender you probably want to have a good quality router first. Mine is just the standard Telstra-supplied Netgear router.

    • I recently bought a tp-link and have the same issue .. speeds tend to drop off when I'm using it ….which is ironic

      • Oh I forgot to say that, I believe a better solution would be Powerline Wifi Extender. Haven't done any research, but in my opinion, it may still create a new SSID but at least the connection between the extender and the router is stable (ethernet over power, assuming normal household infrastructure). Another solution is to just upgrade the router to a quality one (like the netgear nighthawk).

  • I'm trying to decide if it's better to add an extender to the network or just add better antennas onto the router? Anybody have thoughts on this?

  • I was thinking about getting one of these as my wireless signal has to pass through quite a few brick walls eventhough it's only 15m away. Googled and found the speeds and signal issues cancel out the benefits. It's better to either reposition your current router (longer phone cord or hook up by ethernet cable) or go the wired router extender route.
