  • I've had a look inside my pc. Seems to be pretty simple just slot it in, though i think i need a SATA cable to plug into the motherboard or something? What type of SATA cable do i need? Could I potentially ruin the SSD if i use the wrong SATA cable?

    Thankyou in advance :)

  • Any deals on vid cards coming up Rep?

    GTX970 / R9 390 etc?

    • +2

Hopefully able to provide something this month :)

      • Rep, can you do us a deal on the TP-Link Archer D7 modem/router please?

  • Thanks tightarse, we all save a few bucks towards our next purchases!

  • pretty slow write compared to samsung ssd

    • for the same price same size?

    • They are upto MAX but in real life you may not feel a big difference.

  • Couple of questions as I am new to SSD's:
    1) is this likley to help speed up an older i7 960 with 6GB Ram & a WD RE4 WD5003ABYX 500GB 7200 RPM HDD?
    2) will there be much difference in speed between this SSD & the Samsung EVO 850 for $145.
    3) is there likely to be a reliability difference between this and the Samsung.
I am OK with the price difference if it is justifiable.

      1) Absolutely. That CPU is still much faster than the budget and midrange ones sold nowadays, having 4 full-speed (not ultralow voltage) cores. So still worth investing in. A laptop like that is held back hugely by its hard drive speed, given that the CPU is fast and it has enough RAM.
      2) In practice, no. I doubt you would notice.
      3) I wouldn't think so. Samsung has had issues with their EVO 840 (performance drop on stale data which had not been moved in a while), so it's not like they have a clean slate. Sandisk is not exactly a newcomer to the memory industry, and I think you can rely on their products.

  • Just received that is quick.

      • Thanks! By the way did it come with a 3.5" mounting bracket? I'm building a PC with mine and didn't realise it's 2.5 inch.

        • +1

          3.5" mounting bracket?

          No.

          didn't realise it's 2.5 inch.

All SSD are 2.5" LOL ….

        • @superforever: Um… no, they're not.

        • @Utopian:

Yeah there are smaller one but I think he was talking about 3.5" SSD, is it available?

        • @superforever: Yup, along with 5.25, micro, mini SATA, many PCIE variants etc.

          Some good info

        • @Utopian:

Never saw a 3.5" model they must be very expensive by that time.
