Reading this has really put me off from using Boxhop. Have they improved since 6 months ago?

No way as the OP of that thread, I could in good conscience recommend them, at least until they afford us with a decent and reasonable explanation to their appaling conduct and how they've addressed it since then.
I have a membership from a previous promo.
Recently used them to deliver 4 pairs of sneakers in boxes and a cap.
The total came to $90USD.. And that's with 20% discount apparently.
That's from their warehouse in Illinois to Melbourne.
Not the cheapest.. But it was a last minute thing.
Besides that, I didn't have any problem with their service.
Have you tried any other company? What is the cheapest? $90 USD doesnt sound cheap especially with almost 5 years low AUD.
I've tried boxvoyage.com but that was many years ago and used for snowboards, so can't compare directly. However they were cheap at the time. Approx $70USD for two boards, $50USD for one.
Only reason I stuck with boxhop is because some limited release sneakers were available thru nike.com, but they won't ship overseas and I didn't have time to setup a new account.
I took advantage of their offer last year.
The biggest problem for me was the ease of use of their website. It took several days and countless attempts to even start a shipping order. Their system somehow came up with a value for my goods that was 10 times the actual cost. This too, took several days and multiple emails to resolve.
Quoting significantly lower delivery fees than the eventual cost certainly didn't add anything positive to my experience.
In terms of the positives, being based in IL meant that most of the time sales tax wasn't an issue.

Careful with shipping batteries. However battery packs should be ok.
I had really bad problems with these guys, and in fact some of my purchases I left with them due to their ridiculous pricing. Not going to go on about it, but I'd really suggest you look elsewhere.
Used once, have to say quite expensive even I had $30 referral credit I think it's just slightly cheaper than hopshopgo.
Another problem was handle time is very long, took more than a week to confirm received one of my item.
Personally I'll not use it again.
Had a terrible time last trying to get Boxhop customer service to resolve a technical issue with a parcel "stuck" on a pending status. Had to open four service tickets before that simple issue could be fixed.
I think there are better providers out there, if you're keen on scooping up U.S. Black Friday bargains etc.
So who is best out there for shipping,I was one of the first guys with myus.com well before they got as big as they are now found out about them back in the day out of a leaflet in some newspaper for many years I ordered and purchased stuff from myus and still no issues but for last three years just not been buying so stopped using them but did read a lot of bad feedback around the time I stopped using them,could not fault them or there prices in shipping but this may have been due to a long term member from day one.
There was not really any companies around in them days that did this but there is now,and it would be good to know how they all compare,I did sign up for these guys but I'm starting to wonder maybe there is better than this.
I just may get into the use of these shipping companies but don't know which one is best.
Last to times I have used them they were quite good as to price of couriers compared to ship it to. But they are slow to update their information usually 2 days or so. Shipitto runs a very professional system with very quick service and many photos of goods as they arrive and as they are packed. Shipitto is cheaper when using USPS slower option and they also charge per package fee.
Like so many others, I would never use this company again. I had an awful experience with them, and although I didn't use the thread referred to above (this happened after my experiences), I detailed my problems here: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/172089#comment-2399992. I would strongly recommend that people wanting to use a mail forwarder look elsewhere.
