          I have a 4TB seagate plugged into mine and it is viewable on my PC as a network drive, but using their software to share it as a media centre over wifi is very buggy.
          Only shows some of the content.

          Had it for about 3 weeks now and that's my only problem with it

        Is it as simple as plugging into the NBN modem and entering ISP login details? We're with TPG and I assumed that we would have to use the router that came with them and turn off NAT and plug in with a new router, but obviously that's one extra step I would prefer to avoid if it's possible.

    If I only have one client on the 802.11ac will this run faster than 200meg netgear ethernet over power?

      Depends on the distance between your device and the router. There are many ac router reviews with speed benchmarks in distance available.

      I typically saw about 30mbit real world through '200mbit' EoP. Even my 3x3 'n' laptop gets over 100mbit a few rooms away off my AC1900 router.

      Note that AC3200 isn't any better for single client than AC1750 or AC1900 - It just gives you a second 5ghz radio to help spread out your clients.

        Thanks, I only have a 2x1 house. Its pretty small.

        What I am thinking of doing is using one EoP device to locate the Nighthawk in the middle of my house (laundry). Then connect the desktop direct to the Nighthawk via the fastest pci express wifi card I can buy (any recommendations?).

        The other high bandwidth devices (roku in bedroom and HTPC in living room) continue to connect via EoP.

        Does this make sense?

    It is worth noting this model is affected by the netUSB flaw discovered earlier this year, if you are concerned about that sort of thing.

    There seems to be no remedy. either.

    Sometimes NetUSB can be disabled via the web interface, but at least on NETGEAR
    devices this does not mitigate the vulnerability. NETGEAR told us, that there is
    no workaround available, the TCP port can't be firewalled nor is there a way to
    disable the service on their devices.

      That's ok fruit I can understand the confusion. A modem does the talking between your house and the service provider - TPG/Telstra etc. It shakes hands and speaks Hebrew and says hi and bye.

      The router takes what the modem does and splits it up into multiple connections in your house. It 'routs' your youtube request from your phone, into the modem, and then the modem takes it to infinity and beyond.

      Sometimes the modem and router is integrated, but in this case it's just the router part.

    Yes it is cheap but the question is how stable is this router? I have the R7000 and sold it because I could not get it to run smoothly especially while dealing with QOS on its factory firmware and ddwrt. I have replaced it with the Asus and have not needing to reboot it since day one.

      Hi Donkeykong, what Asus router are you using now ? I have the same problem with R7000, tried tomato shibby ,toastman & Asuswrt-Merlin but QOS package priority seem doesn't work properly.

      I'm running dd-wrt on r7000, it's quite stable, though I do not use QoS.
      However, I think there's no good build for r8000, and stock fw is somewhat problematic.

      I've been running a r7000 for a year now on the NBN & its been rock solid, cant think of a time its required a reboot. However the Asus are regarding as the dogs bollocks.

      Stick with the Asus for headache free and I am sure you will not need all the unstable features of the R8000.

      Hardware wise this is better, its more comparable to ac87u. The interface is better on the ASUS. Overall at this price you cant go wrong.

      Bought the ac68u today. First modem/router I've bought in yearrrs. At $209 it was suggested as best buy. I actually went in to buy an archer c9 for $30 cheaper… but panicked with the MSY Soup Nazi pressure to perform :D

      $258++ normal streetprice is mental.

      At $220, this could be king!! Doh!!

    I just realized NBN is available at my house and have paid for it, selecting my own router.

    I currently have a Netgear DGN2200v3 which I believe is not compatible with the NBN.

    Is purchasing this while it is this cheap be a good idea?

          Yeah, I don't think they have a factory. You can refer them to the bottom part of the Umart page which indicates, in addition to the store warranty:

          I'm pretty sure Officeworks' price match policy is on Australian stock (so not grey imports). Australian stock is covered under ACL so you get additional benefits. This is why you generally pay more for Australian goods, at least that's what they want us to believe.

      you'd just plug an ethernet cable from the cable modem to the "internet" port on the R8000 (the yellow port).

    As I'm in SA, I opted to do the price match with Office Works over the phone. For me, they had to include Umart's delivery price before discounting. I ended up paying OW $222.30 for in store pickup.

    I bought this router last time Dick Smith had it on special. Has been working flawlessly. Excellent speed and wireless range on my NBN connection.

      Have you use it higher function like Guest wireless, Set when wireless on and off for kids to access in 2.4 Ghz band and 5 Ghz wireless for yourself with no restriction, QOS, USB share etc? If you start to play with these complex setting you probably going to experience glitches. If not, why bother paid for these features and not using it?

        Only reason I bought it was because it was Netgear's latest model and a poster posted the bargain here.
