The resale value of these phones are low because of the non-removable battery. I will not upgrade from my note 4 until they bring back the removable battery option.

    • +11

You might be waiting awhile then. By the looks of the leaks, Samsung is moving to glass backed flagships with no removable storage. Seems people prefer flashy design over function.

      • If you can't beat Apple, join them.

    • -2

You obviously haven't heard of Samsung's researchers effectively doubling battery capacity in lithium-ion batteries. There is no need for removable batteries anymore.

      • +10

Well that's not out yet, so it's still too early to say "there is no need for removable batteries anymore".

      • +2

But it’s important to remember that this is just a research project — Samsung has yet to mold its findings into a commercial product, and it may be a while before that happens. While the technology may very well be commercially viable, we likely have at least two or three years to wait before it powers the devices we use every day.

Better to phase removable batteries out sooner rather than later, so customers don't get a surprise.

        • +5

@tendollar: This makes about as much sense as saying "driverless cars will make seat belts unnecessary - better phase them out so customers don't get a surprise".

        • @tantryl:
Cool comparison. Maybe if removable batteries could be compared to life and death safety measures your nonsense would hold up.
The big smartphone manufacturer's are doing it, deal with it. No use delaying the inevitable.

        • +1

@tendollar: the point is obvious - the feature is useful right now. Phasing it out in preparation for an unknown point in the future where it'll no longer be useful is ridiculous. This isn't the reason the companies are doing it - it's the reason you suggested they're doing it.

They're doing it, I'm not fighting against it, I'm just pointing out that your attempt to explain it is ridiculous.

        • @tantryl:

          ok ok

      • +6

Until they invent batteries that won't degrade over time, your comment remains invalid. I for one prefer removable battery because i then won't be forced to get a new phone only because the battery has degraded to the point of lasting only a few hours from full charge.

        • -1

Battery can be replaced though, but still i agree it is a pain to get a beautiful looking phone instead of a good looking enough but better suit our needs: 2 batteries always better than one, replacable battery always battery than inbuilt, removable cover can be changed if scrached too much, etc :)

        • +1

Really not only because of that… With removable batteries, if it is flat you can just remove and chuck in a charged one and off you go. With non-removable you will need to wait for it to be recharged, carrying a portable battery/charger is much bulkier than carrying an extra battery.

        • There's no such thing as batteries that don't degrade over time. Never will be. ANyone who understands materials science knows that.
You can get the batteries changed, just take it to a technician or the manufacturer.

THe only invalid comment here is your wishful thinking, which does not align with the consensus that is forming among manufacturer's these days. Get use to it.

        • -2

          @tendollar:

I guess i made it too challenging for you to comprehend. Where did i say such battery can be invented. I don't have wishful thinking and therefore my preference in removable batteries. If i did believe such battery will be developed, i would be agreeing with your opinion that removable batteries are not required anymore, wouldn't I?
I hope i have not overloaded your little brain

        • -1

          @djc926:
Stop pretending like you're an expert. The fact is, poor old ozBargainer won't get a removable battery from the big smartphone manufacturers. I hope they haven't rustled your jimmies.

        • +2

          @tendollar:
I dont need to be an "expert" to know that removable battery is still a very useful feature for many users out there. Too hard for you?

        • +3

All members of our family carry spare batteries with them. Takes 20 seconds to take the back off and insert a spare and close it up again. Murphy says you will most need your mobile when it is dead.

      • What's the point in newer better batteries if you cant remove your old one to replace it?

    • +4

For me it's more the additional storage slot - micro SD. My current phone is an S5, but I'm not interested in the S6, my next phone at this stage will be a different brand - maybe LG or HTC…

      • Just get a Note 5?

      • I will stay with S5s unless the S7 will have a removable battery and sd slot. Once you get to know a phone it's hard to move to another brand. Wouldn't smashing the S6 screen make it difficult to move photos off it to the computer? Much easier to get it off the sd card. I realize the card can fail resulting in lost photos, but I would think that smashed screens would be more common than sd cards failing.

    • So thats why iPhones resale is so low.

    • Why would the battery be important to you if you are looking at upgrading your phone within a year? Note 4 less than 12 months old.

      • Resale value is what he's talking about. It will be worth less to the next owner because the battery will have lost some of its life and the next person can't just insert a new one.

    • Samsung's resale value is always lower than iPhone. I mean the price is dropping so quick.

      • Then again, their original prices - the iPhone is always higher to start with…it's all relative…iPhone pricing at $1200 is getting a bit ridiculous tbh…

        • Apple pricing is ridiculous. 1200 bucks for a phone. If there's something that only an iphone does that no other phones can do, maybe i could overlook it but it doesn't. It should be max 800 bucks.

If you are willing to wait, you can usually get flagship samsung phone for under 600. It will have been out for 12 months or so, but i personally don't need the latest and the greatest anyway.

    • The note 4 is pretty much on par with the s6 anyway xD

    • Works for Apple.

I'd still rather less for the 32GB phone and put in an SD card (even though the SD card won't be as fast) but that's not an option anymore.

You actually can remove the battery btw. The manual tells you how. But you better know what you're doing. It wasn't designed to be easy enough to do for the average lay person.

  • +8

I would avoid buying any Samsung flagship phone and wait till next month (August 12th) for the announcement of the Samsung Note 5 which will drive the prices down even further.

Ive noticed that the prices of SG6 and SG6 edge have already dropped this month in anticipation for the price drop next month.

    • +1

Just adding on to this, in Korea, they've officially reduced the price for 6 Edge (in Korea, you cannot get a phone outright from retailers (other than from Samsung) and phones on plan also uses the official price (you get subsidies), so official price set by the manufacturers have fair bit of impact on the market); people are thinking that it's probably because of the 6 Edge+ release.

  • +1 for the effort!

    • wow What a smart Hairy monkey lol

    • Its not gold colour, it makes no difference. It is not good enough compare to a property. So Chill out

  • +3

But I want an Edge (stamps feet).

    • -2

you will stamp your feet with an edge?

  • Pfff right after I buy a 64GB edge.

Oh well. It has a slightly bigger battery and all.

    • I suppose that's the dilemma now. A 128GB S6 in a reasonable colour or a 64GB S6 Edge in a green of which I'm not too sure about.

If I'd never seen the Edge, I would have got the regular S6……..but now I've seen the bloody thing.

      • +1

I don't see the real use of the edges other than looking cool. It's awkward for a screen protector and not so easy to hold, I'd personally go with the non edge version myself if I'm ever buying one.

        • It was the C word that did it. Screw practicality, etc!

      • +1

I went with a 64gb regular S6. Edge looks cool, but not really any worthwhile functionality and personally prefer using a flat screen.

  • Should I buy it now or wait for Sep?

    • +1

      wait

    • wait and you never get one lol

  • Any Edge deals coming up?

  • Great Deal..

I'm assuming you alway get a GST Tax invoice?

    • +2

Yes. GST Tax Invoice always provided for any purchase from Mobileciti.

  • +5

now that is one very lucky price!!!

  • +2

Ah screw it. I'm going to see JBs green Edge. It's $250 than these guys do it for.

    • The best color of all in my opinion

It's an interesting time in OzBargain's history at the moment. More and more companies are seemingly contacting TA and using his 'brand' (quirky, polite, discerning, pro bargain hunter etc) as a marketing/leveraging tool to push their products. He is a God amongst men and users place a lot of trust in his comments/uploads etc.

Savvy online stores are realising this and rather than releasing an 'OzBargain' code, the flavour of the month is to link their deal to TA. Im not against this per se', but it is an interesting development nonetheless. I wonder what will the climate will be like in 12mths and whether TA will have enough 'Goodwill' in his brand to go solo!

  • Damnnn so tempted to upgrade my S2 to this model. Should I get this or wait for S7?

    http://thegalaxys7.com/

I've seen articles on the internet discussing rumours on how Samsung wanted to bring forward the release date of S7 due to drop of their profits.

    • +7

the S8 is going to be a corker I reckon

  • +1

Good price for those in the market for it. Personally, I'm after the LG G4.
Rep, when do you plan on stocking the G4? Do you have an idea on price? Thank you

    • +1

Yeah I went the same…couldn't find anyone able to get near the pricing here, plus the leather colour I wanted.
PRO > Price, can't find anyone cheaper.
CON > Wait of up to 2 weeks…tapping fingers impatiently.
Customer service > seems ok, bought at $661 for bronze leather, then noticed price dropped to $634 following week, so cancelled and rebought and refund prompty actioned.

815 model is standard unless you are with Optus and need the speedy 4g then go the 815T

Thanks for finding and hunting out all these awesome deals!

  • How long will the deal be up for?

    • +2

Offer good until tomorrow night. Just spoke with rep and stock is not an issue.

  • +5

"I receive no financial benefit from posting these coupon deals. Never have, never will."

While an admirable and well intentioned stance I personally am not comfortable with it.
Goodwill and the adulation of your legion of fans must be nice but you can't eat it and it won't pay the bills.

Unfortunately there is no shortage of users willing to take advantage of others kindness but I and I'm sure most others, even the most hard-core ozbargainer would not begrudge you making some money for your labours.

While a conflict of interest, or appearance of it may concern you - stuff that! because at the end of the day, it is a bargain or it's not.
Your well earned cred exists exactly because you deliver.

I don't work for free and neither should you.
At the very least, get a tip jar brother!

S6 is not the hot seller anymore it's the g4

    • -7

both of them su**…. iphone is the way to go…

Kogan thought they where smart putting "out of stock" on there $899 deal (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/202353) & bumping up the price to $949 through ebay deals (http://groupbuy.ebay.com.au/deal?itemId=161766083443&utm_sou…), until tightarse came in with a kill shot

  • +1

off topic but TA, can you get a deal on gigabyte 970 g1 please and have coupon code as gigaarse or tightbyte

  • Great price, well done on getting that with Australian stock too.

I've got an S4 with CM, and I'm avidly against touch wiz.

Seems like the G4 is reasonably popular, but I heard the touch screen isn't fantastic.

Im after something like the S4 with removable SD, battery and able to be rooted for CM with top hardware to ensure reliability. Maybe that's asking a bit too much? There's lots of cheap Chinese made phones but I'm sceptical, would he annoying to have a phone break even a couple of times in its lifespan.

    Keep the deals coming TA!

Do you have specials on S5? Are they also coming with genuine Samsung 2 years warranty?

  • Function over form, always.
Having dual-batteries and being able to charge the second in a dock is the greatest convenience.

So much for saying Apple users are wall huggers, so now Samsung themselves also the same wall huggers.

  • +1

    This is not working anymore!!

  • I got excited. But the s6 is not for me due to not having an sd card slot. Can the bargain be extended across the range? m9, G4 (heck, even an m8 personally)?

    • These bargains can generally only be organised from the retailer bulk buying a single item, usually after the orders for the phones are made. They'll generally only be able to get a sweatheart wholesale price if it's a single item. They'll often only make their money because they also participated in a bundle deal - they make no or negative money selling the phone but they'll make their money selling the bundled item(s) the manufacturer/wholesaler is pushing.

So… no, I doubt it can be extended indiscriminately to other phones. I'm just guessing though.
