Got mine from the GearBest deal….this is a fun quad to fly, the video is not very good but for $50 its acceptable quality.
Its a light unit which is good because crashes (for a newbie) are often harmless.
But please do not let it go out of range.

Is that the norm for these cheapish sort of drones?
I've got the 5SC-1 (which is slightly upgraded apparently) and the flight time is about right but can be extended if remove the camera and prop guards. It's on the low side (they're normally 7-8 mins) but it's a fantastic unit and so easy to fly

Flight time is ~10 mins without camera, depending on how you fly. 6 min with camera. It comes with 2 batteries.

No it cannot lift a gopro.

this looks like a great deal, I have a phantom 2 with all the bells and whistles(FPV, taranis, telemetry), I would recommend this one to anyone who wants to start flying but don't think you will get too far or great videos… its just a toy, I'm almost sure it would hold a gopro.
Yep have plans to move onto a phantom in the future (big leap price wise) but gotta start somewhere :)

Got one of these for Christmas. Great quadcopter and as someone who had never flown RC before, it didn't take long to get the hang of it. AS mentioned by another user, it's so light that crashes generally aren't too damaging, I got this things stuck in a tree and used a cricket ball (it's all I had at the time) to bring it down and it took off flying no problems.
I feel like my skill levels have outgrown it but for $50 it's a bargain for a learning quad.

Why the negative votes? I am a quad copter enthusiast and model aircraft fan. I am very concerned about irresponsible people buying these toys and thinking it would be funny to fly them near an airport, or to spy on their neighbours.

For the Kmart quad is hard to find spare parts. Easy and cheaper for this one
Strip the foam fro the Kmart, and it will be better. Has a camera plug too, but does not seem to be compatible with the one from X5C.
I could not find out how the camera works. Can it streams the video to a remote display (eg smartphones)?
No. Not out of the box. Camera is a simple recording type only, triggered from the controller (ie: take photo, or start/stop video)
There are many ways to mod first person realtime video into the syma x5c, but you need some techie smarts.
This is great. I ordered one at the start of the year for $60, then it arrived with no remote… That was another $30. So pretty good deal.
It's very light, so gets turned around in the wind, but it's decent to learn on.

Looks like they only "improved" on the size of the packaging.
- The difference between X5C and X5C-1 is just the package size, their product parameters are the same.
Also "The X5C-1's camera activation button was moved to the throttle trim switch from the shoulder button. This allows it to flip with the camera on, something the X5C could not do."
