It was a good buy for $49 with 3 months netflix. Only $1.50 to unlock too. The camera seems better than other budget phones around this price including the Huawei Y550. I prefer this phone over the Lumia 530 and 532 that sell around this price. Another good feature it has is double tap to wake. Another thing it also has I haven't seen on other budget phones at this price point is capacitive buttons that light up. Battery life is around 4 hours screen on time. Big negatives with this phone it only has 2gb of storage space, and you are stuck on Jellybean. It does allows you to store apps directly to sd card though. The screen is crap too, slightly better than the Lumia 532, and better to view outside because it's brighter but still not good enough to see in direct sunlight. Having 4g band 28 is a plus, and it actually seemed to be better than my note 4 at picking up reception. I suppose for around $50 it's a good phone, better if you can find it for $29. I personally rate it the 2nd best phone I have used for <$50. And I'd rate it as the best for under $20, which it was essentially that when it came with 3 months netflix.

  • not bad for $60… 4G… so yea… as long as you are not a game-maniac….

  • ZTE is cheaper $49.50 at woolies - same carrier (vaya card works w/o unlock), 4G, bigger screen, bigger battery and same shitty partition too

The zte phone you linked to has some negatives that this Alcatel doesn't have.

-no 850 band for 3g, so no good for telstra users wanting a cheap phone.

The Alcatel is clearly better for someone who'd prefer a phone that'll work on the best network, or switches their plan from month to month to get best deal.

      • doesn't allow apps to install to sd card

Alcatel allows you to store apps directly to sd card.

So yeah if you are happy with optus or optus resellers, and happy with less app storage space it could be the better choice. However not clearly the better choice for everyone.

  • Why didn't I see/wasn't it posted as deal if/when it was available including Optus 3 months Netflix for $29?! Might have to start hunting around some AusPost stores.

  • So it seems this is another dodgy dick promotion for product that is unavailable

    Availability:Temporarily out of stock

  • And now the page is gone altogether.
One day i'll get to upgrade my phone.
