Eneloop Tropical AA or Chocolat AAA 8pk $19.98 (C&C) @ Dick Smith

520

Dicksmith has Tropical AA and Chocolat AAA batteries available to click and collect for $19.98. I tried a few postcodes around the country and was showing C&C stock for all. Some Chocolat AA available for C&C too.

Might not be as good as last month's $14.98 + $7.95 Postage deals, but if you want click and collect this is the best deal I can remember.

Part of the "XXXL SALE! TODAY ONLY!" sale so you'd better hurry, (or just wait for tomorrow's sale).

Edit: The 4xAA + 4xAAA Combi Pack pack as suggested by raven2000 is $21 C&C with stock available in some of the smallest DS stores.

so you'd better hurry, (or just wait for tomorrow's sale).

    :D

There's actually stock available for C&C in the AAA's this time around.

  • +1

I picked up some of these today (Click and Collect). In store they were still trying to sell the 8-pack tropical AA's for $54.

Bloody ridiculous, the pricing discrepancies between online and in-store are really making me look for alternative stores to shop at.

    • +4

And the fact that in the store they are forbidden from matching their own web price is just stupid.

      • this! LOL
I went in to get the DIck Smith car charger and the dude said we can't give it to you for the online price.

        • in that case can't you purchase it online while you're at the store and then just collect it there? I'm not sure exactly how click and collect works

        • @rickyygee:

I went to collect my LED globes and asked if I could get the car charger for the online price. I didn't know they were on special until a few hours before.

  • It's back!!!

  • How do you guys recharge these, or do they come with a re-charger?

    • +11

You create a loop of eneloops, each one charging another.

    • +2

To recharge, simply flip the ends of the batteries around. This way instead of battery power going out, you get energy going in to recharge the batteries.

    • +2

no they dont. I charge with aldi smart charger

These might be the new batteries that's equiped with microwave charging technology, Panasonis has done a software update on the Eneloops earlier this year.

I think it's also adopted by apple with firmware upgrade to enable microwave charging. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EYbSkAsYEME

        • I must say that it bothers me a little that Panasonic can beam firmware updates into my Eneloops whenever they like.

As for Microwave charging itself my own appliance is otherwise occupied so I personally wont be trying it any time soon: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ioal_-iqDLg

        • @cainn: Hahaha…

  • The packaging on the tropicals shows "70%" precharge so is it safe to assume they the Japanese cells?
The rest of DSE's standard grade Eneloop cells seems to all be the "65%" precharged / chinese cells right?

    • +6

Safer to assume it's an old photo and they are Chinese.

    • +1

I noticed the same thing but check out the second picture on the page: it shows 65%. The product description also says 65%. They are Chinese batteries. I don't think I'll bother with them. No hope to get the Japanese ones now. Fortunately I have a friend coming over from Japan next month…

      • Yep if these aren't $15.00 Click & Collect, then may as well get the Aldi LSD rechargeable batteries.
        $5.99 for a 4 pack of AA/AAA everyday price.

    • Thanks guys… I think I'll check in store / forget these cells.

    • There are new cells from China that show 70%. It seems that cells made after 05/15 are going to be 70% but still made in China.

      • I checked stock in the gunghalin store when I picked up my c&c order and you are right, newer eneloops seem to say 70% but list made in China on the pack… None of the batteries I checked said made in Japan, all were made in China.

For 73 cents more go for the Rouge AA's instead. If you can find them. Available at Redbank QLD.

      • These are Japanese..

        • But it says ROUGE?

        • @Gomo:
          They're bilingual :-)

        • +2

They are Sanyo-branded but I can't find any confirmation of where they're made.

Given the model number is HR-3UTGB8-RTM, they are 3rd-generation and all of the 3rd-generation Eneloops are Chinese-made as far as I can see.

          @Amar89:
The pack that I bought last time from DSE are made in Japan. Batch 2012-11.

        • @MJD682: Cheers. That does it, I'm getting some.

        • +1

Same, bought about 2 months ago.

The pack that I bought last time from DSE are made in Japan. Batch 2012-11.

Glad to say the ones I picked up today also say Made in Japan. Cheers guys.

    • But they're not AAA?

    • What are the benefits of the Rouge Eneloops over the Chocolat and Tropical versions?

      • +2

Made in Japan but third generation, i.e. recharged up to 1,800 times rather than 2,100 times.

        • Also slightly higher capacity retention 70% Vs 65%

        • How is being recharged 300 times less a benefit? Furthermore, unless you actually leave these batteries operating for 3-5 years (why buy a rechargeable in that case), the higher capacity is better.

Ie. The 65% retention with more capacity and more lifecycles is better if you need to charge your batteries within 0-52 weeks isn't it?

        • +1

          @IndecentExposure:
          Because Japan

        • +1

          @MJD682:
More importantly, because despite the claims, the Chinese cells have been shown to be vastly inferior to the Japanese ones.

These are regularly available for $14.98 so would not recommend anyone buy at this price unless you need these ASAP.

    • +2

AAA's aren't normally available for C&C, so definitely a bargain for them.

      • +2

True. But mind you: if you buy two packs, postage will still be $7.95. In this case, it is better to wait for $14.98 deal to come again.

        • ok I shall do that.

        • Yep, bottom line is that by next month these will be back on special at a lower price. Don't buy now unless you only want the one pack of AAA batteries.

  • +1
    • This combi pack looks like it has C&C at even some of the smallest stores, added it to the deal description.

  • Are these edible?

    • Absolutely!

Just remember to buy additional batteries for your stomach pump.

  • Any recommendations for chargers for them? Don't care about quick-charging (reduces long-term life), but the eneloop-branded chargers on DSE's site are fairly expensive.

      • Yup this one. Great charger. Added bonus, it can charge almost every type of battery under the sun, AA, AAA, C, D, 18650, 14500, 10400, lifePO4, RCR123A, etc.

  • These have been on sale for $20 for the past 2 weeks. XD

If I would have known this is a good deal, I would have bought them earlier.

  • Loops are too mainstream for me, mSD cards are the shazbot.

  • I'm going to jump the gun and buy my first set of eneloops. :-)

    http://www.dicksmith.com.au/batteries/eneloop-family-battery…

  • I added another item for click and collect with the eneloops and I can select the option for pickup.
    thanks
