Telstra Evolution 4GX $64.50 (1/2 Price) @ Coles

100

Saw this in Coles Australia Fair in Southport, QLD. It looks like a very decent deal if you're looking for a 4GX enabled phone. I don't know if it's local or national. I didn't notice it on the weekly circular.

Kinda comparable to the Fit 4G Smart with a little less built-in storage and a smaller screen, and higher price BUT Telstra compatibility and Blue Tick and 4GX performance

  • Doesn't look like it can be used as a wireless hotspot.

    • Where does it say that?
One otherwise critical review did point out this would be a great use for it.

The biggest drawback seem to be the lack of built-in storage. People were happy to find this phone discounted for $99 a couple of months ago

      • I just couldn't find it mentioned as a capability on the pages linked above. I didn't read anywhere that it wasn't capable either.

It's android.. of course it can be used as a wireless hotspot!

I had a quick look at the demo model in a Telstra store today, it looks like there's an upgrade for Lollipop for it, as the demo was running 5.0.2 (could be wrong on that last number though).

    • sure it wasn't the newer Telstra Buzz? That one's definitely 5.0

      • +1

Derp, my mistake, it was the Buzz, not the Evolution.

  • Which is better, the T80 or the Buzz? Both are 4GX.

    Thanks.

    • +1

The Buzz has 8GB internal memory instead of 4GB on the T80 and the Buzz has a bigger screen (4.5 inch vs 4 inch).
But it's currently priced higher than this deal.
The T80 appears to be more compact and easier to fit in your pocket.
      The T80 was introduced first.

I'm tempted but inclined to wait for a half-price deal on the Buzz, which would put it in the $50 range… of course there's a good chance that sale may never happen, or won't happen for months.

If someone is on Telstra and is looking for 4GX today and not eventually, this is a good bargain.

  • do applications still need to run on the internal storage…? need a phone while my nexus 5 is away on repair, and something to upgrade the wifes loan iphone 5s with…

        neg-neg-neg-neg!!!!!!!!!

iphones are the crappest thing to roam this earth… and now we can say that having experienced it… she cant wait to get back to an android. :P

    • You can root the phone pretty easily and then it shouldn't be hard to keep the apps on the external SD instead.

  • How much to unlock it?

  • So has anyone seen this deal at any stores in nsw?
