Yup ive used this and it didnt do shit.
Some areas i was a little too generous with it just incase.

      • I found it works, areas of weeds go brown and die.

The weeds will come back next season or earlier though.

      • I've used it and it works just not as well as specific bindi/broadleaf herbicides and separate fertilizer . At this price it's 1/3 the cost , so use it twice and your still in front .

Has anyone got some tips for onion grass ?

Only way i know is to paint round up on it and hope for the best… its a pain to get rid of

        • +1

Onion grass does not like fertiliser, with a high nitrogen fertiliser the grass (and other weeds) will overtake the onion grass in no time!

  • I have used this and it seems to work. The Yates one did NOTHING!!

I always found Hortico better & cheaper. That is for killing weeds.

Does this stuff (Feed n Weed) actually scientifically (not BRO/GRO Science) work - the pessimist in me thinks it's like snake oil!

    • I've used it successfully on my couch lawn. It kills broad leaf plants. The broader the leaf, the more poison it soaks up. Don't expect it to work on wintergrass (too skinny), clover & a few others. Also I don't think you should use it on buffalo. Its makes them angry.

Thanks for the useful feedback/reply zenturio - I've had my backyard for 5 years and always used general maintenance and good old fashion weed remover tool; works a treat. I'm skeptical this is just a waste of money and application time coincides with Spring when grass regenerates naturally anyway and lulls the user into a kind of 'false economy'. One decent hit of rain and it's a complete waste of time.

  • wow brunnings isn't a typo.

    • Been around before bunnings mate!

Not sure about other Ikeas but the one at Ikea Logan QLD packs their used coffee grounds into boxes you can bring home to make compost.

You can also source free coffee grounds from your local starbucks or gloria jeans coffee place.

For lawns just directly sprinkle onto the grass, give off a nice smell instantly and in the following weeks the coffee grounds break down into superb fertiliser your lawn will love!!

You can have your lawn, be ozbargainer and do your part for the environment.

  • Guys, does anyone know a good fertilizer for grass that will give off that green-blue colour?? Saw it on one of the display homes a while back and thought it looked really nice!

    • +1

My first guess would be iron = it tends to produce that darker blue/green look but YMMV

Haha no idea but Yates have this livechat thing on their main webpage, where you can ask a horticulturalist for advice.

      Ask them!

  • Can this be used on Buffalo grass?

    • There's a warning on the back saying don't use on Buffalo grass. I think there are buffalo grass friendly formulas you can buy.

      • Thanks many

        • +1

Yates have a buffalo pro weed n feed spray but slightly more expensive

    • We have Sir walter and had to buy a special one, forget the name but it was a concentrate in a tiny oil like tin and it worked well

      • Yes I used those. But didnt work too well for our soft leave buffalo grass for some reasons.

  • I've found this stuff, no matter what the brand, to be pissweak. A guy I know who works as a professional groundskeeper recommended to me Kamba-M, which you can't buy at Bunnings/Masters (got mine from Norco Rural). Works a treat!

  • This is the real price this thing should be sold at… Aussies have long been charged obscene prices for most basic things in life…

  • I use it every spring, works well on broadleaf.
Spray the lawn one Saturday and hit it again the next Saturday

  • I went and bought a few today. Works well for me. My parents bought about 10, since they have a huge lawn

My local bunnings also had the bags of the powder weed and feed that are buffalo friendly for around $12

  • Nice one.

  • I don't think this is suitable for buffalo…. Experts please advise? I got a mx of buffalo and kikuya

    • +1

Yeah this one isn't suitable for Buffalo lawn.

I would probably recommend using something like Yates Buffalo Pro Weed'N'Feed liquid or granular versions. They're both suitable for buffalo lawn.

      • I've used the Weed'n'Feed granular before, works ok. But I'm not about Yates Buffalo Pro Weed'N'Feed liquid. Any pointers on that?

    • No it's not suitable. It will take the Buffalo with it thinking it's broadleaf weed. You need Buffalo Pro… I had bough it a few years ago but had to throw it away eventually as I had a buffalo lawn back then. Alternatively you can go for Buffalo Pro concentrate for $17 from Bunnings and empty half of it in a 4L used spray bottle of Buffalo Pro or WeedNFeed (washed well), top up with plain water and use it normally like you use the $20 Buffalo Pro bottle.

    • You need to be careful with Buffalo, your better off ringing a buffalo supplier and asking them as some can kill it
