Is that a Wi-Fi router in your pocket…

      for up to 5 devices…

      • +3

But that Wi-Fi router shouldn't have an antenna…

  • Hi. I have a spare Android phone which I believe can be used as a hotspot. Do I still need this? Thanks

    • +3

if you want 11GB of data for $39, you do….

    • +2

this comes with a SIM with 11gb + probably better battery life

      of course u need it.

    • +2

I have this Pocket Wi-Fi device and a handful of spare Android handsets that I also use purely for tethering.

The Pocket Wi-Fi is more convenient because the battery lasts longer (~10 hours), it's quick to turn on/off, and you don't be hassled by a bunch of Android apps wanting to update periodically.

The only criticism I have of the device vs an Android handset is that the device is 3G only (whereas I have an old Xperia V which does 4G). But in all practicality you won't really notice 3G vs 4G.

If 4G is a want just wait another 6 months and Vodafone will surely be dumping their newer 4G Pocket Wi-Fi. :)

you don't be hassled by a bunch of Android apps wanting to update periodically.

I always turn off auto-update apps in Play Store, check them manually, and decide which ones need to be updated.

If anyone just wants 3GB and this same device, Dick Smith are doing it for $21

    Pretty cheap.

    • If anyone doesn't want the 3GB, just the 8GB and the same device…

      http://www.harveynorman.com.au/phones-accessories-gps/mobile…

      • $98 for 8 GB …for How Long?

        • +1

          It doesn't say…

Effectively, HN are selling exactly the same modem, but with 3GB less, for $59 more

    • Some say this is more Realistic (on the Voda' N/W),
but then one gets 90 days to use up 11 GB.

Would you be able to use any sim card in it?

    • id like to kno this too

  • How long is the 3GB for? 30 days?

    • +3

The wording says Bonus Data SIM pack. So is the 8GB a separate SIM to the 3GB? Then maybe perhaps the 3GB is 30 days. And if so, can you activate the 8GB after that 30 days to get 11GB for 120 days in total?

      • Usually you need to be in an active period (eg, the 30-days) to be able to use a Pack.
        YMMV

        • +1

It says it's a separate SIM, so you could activate it any time, even after the first 3GB expires.

  • -1

Does that mean 11gigs to be used in 90 days?

  • I could possibly use it for an upgrade to W10, if that is big enough. How big is upgrade to Windows 10 from Windows 7?

    • +2

Win10 iso 32 or 64 is less than 4 GB.

      • +2

And Bunnings/McDonalds/Nearest-Uni would probably get you it faster & FREE, anyway
        /whistle

        • +1

The last time I used Wi-Fi at McDonald's, they had a 50MB limit. Now it was a while ago and don't know if anything has changed since then, though I doubt a 4GB download would work at McDonald's with their connection.

At universities, you'd need to be a student to use their Wi-Fi, and sometimes guests can use it too but again that'll come with restrictions.

        • +1

@KaptnKaos: I second that. My experience with McDonald's WiFi is pretty bad. Other public WiFis will likely be equivalently poor or with download restrictions.

        • @KaptnKaos: You're probably right, with McDonalds. With my uni/college/tafe… widely known, simple, password that changes yearly at-most. Several MB/s up/down.

    • Just download the ISO you need from somewhere and use that.

      • If it comes as an Iso file, as you say, I might actually do that instead. Thanks

        • Official Link
You'll be downloading for yourself, and saving others the download too.

can this sim be used on an unlocked 4G modem to get 4g coverage on voda ?

  • +2

3gb + 8gb sims for 39 bucks effectively. Sounds like a good deal for a backup :). any idea on the battery life on this device?.

Just placed an order (deal on the extra 8gb too good to refuse)

    • +2

yeh battery lasts at least 10 hours on. ive used this thing before

    • For $50 a month, you get 8gb every month from Optus. Plus unlimited calls, unlimited national and international SMS & MMS and 300 international minutes.

  • Can these SIMs also be used for the unlimited weekend data?

    • Yes ,but you would have to keep it activated.

      • +1

Hmm, I called up and got told no. Only applies to cap. The offer ends this weekend anyway.

        • Thanks

"The per megabyte rate of your Included Data is $0.0094/MB with data charged in 1
    kilobyte increments."

Could not find the 'activate by' date but with Vodafone it MAY be expected there isn't one.

For one who minimises phone calls until he is at work. For one who finds Voda coverage FAR SUPERIOR to Optus, and on par with telstra, I snaffled two. $3.50/GB is around the average I pay with Voda on any deals posted in the past.

  • i have a dual sim galaxy s5 unlocked.
reckon i can use the sim in it for data?

  • +6

I bought this yesterday and when I activated it, there was double data available on the sim (16gb instead of 8gb for the sim card I used).
Looked into it and saw that Voda is running a double data promotion at the moment: http://www.vodafone.com.au/personal/campaign/double-data until 18/08/15.
The 16gb lasts for 90 days.

    • +1

That's excellent but I think you scored via some kind of glitch. The double data is for their Red Plans ie ongoing monthly postpaid. This is prepaid obviously.

      • +1

Hm maybe… Well, good luck to those who purchased too!

        • I am tempted to buy it now if its 16GB for 90 days… can anyone else pls confirm :D

        • +1

@nightfever: I just activated mine. The supposed 8GB showed up as 16GB as well. It was a $75 Broadband sim that they give you separately from the modem. Picked up from HN Oxley.

        • @nightfever:
It's not. Technically it is 19GB for 4 months.

        • @josefthedrummer:
Just picked mine up from HN Oxley and got 16GB as well!

    • I assume it does come with a SIM? I don't have one already

    • So does this mean anyone who grabs one of these will get the double data as long as its activated before 18/8?.

If so hard decision as im going OS on 19/8 for a few weeks lol

      • The 16GB double isn't related to any online offer.

It actually says 8GB + 8GB on activation, on the pack.

  • +1

Can these be unlocked to be used with other networks?

  • +1

just a warning, i have broken 2 of these trying to insert / remove sim cards. Wouldnt buy again.

    • How long had you owned it for?

      • I think they may be referring to the R208 pro model which has a tricky click in SIM slot that can easily jam up. This one is the R207 And has a normal type slip in SIM holder.

      • happened twice as soon as i attempted to use

  • -1

Does anyone know if it actually comes with a SIM Card? I assume that it would?

I need a prepaid option to tide me over for 2 months and I was going to buy the Optus Huawei for $29 (with 5GB) but this seems like such a better option $10 extra for an extra 6 GB

    THanks!

    • +2

yes it does, i got 2, one with 3gig and the other with 8gig.

  • Can this be powered via a usb cable or just the battery?
And can anyone confirm if this will last for 4 or 3 months please?

    • +1

yes can be powered by usb.
I assume you mean the data? if so the 8gig lasts 90 days, the 3gig lasts 30 days (from activation) Have not activated the 8gig yet so not sure if they combine or not.

      • Yes sorry I meant the data, thanks for the reply.
So basically it equates to $10.00 a month for 4 months with a free wifi modem. Pretty good deal.

        • +1

The 8GB packs at Harvey Norman are actually 8GB + 8GB bonus. When you activate them it gives 16GB so you actually get 19GB total. $2/GB

          It is two Sims.
          Sim #1: 3GB
          Sim #2: 16GB

  • I just picked one up and only got a 3GB Sim. Where is the 8GB sim meant to be? Anyone?

The person in store tried to look up the code and didn't see any separate item for the 8GB data.

Edit: it was a separate Sim pack in back of store. 8GB + 8GB.

Total data is 19GB for $39

    • Edit: it was a separate Sim pack in back of store. 8GB + 8GB.

Can you just clarify this? They were required to give you an additional sim pack?

I specifically asked about this at the counter "nope nope, all included inside the box". Low and behold it's 3GB only

      • There should be a second sim for the 8GB data. The one in inside the box is the starter 3GB only. My 8GB sim is on back order as they only have the nano sim ones and it showed up as 2 items on my receipt.

        • Yeah I had to go back too the store, I was pretty pissed

      • Yes, it wasn't clarified anywhere and unfortunately I had to go back to store too.
I am quite happy with the 19GB though.

    • -1

Something went wrong and my invoice only showed 3G 8GB, so I went back to the shop to politely discuss this, and after number of checking by two staff members I was given box with 8GB + 8GB bonus on activation which is valid for 90 days.

However, I was also given, separate SIM pack with 8GB + 8GB extra upon activation.

These extras are mentioned on the packaging.

How long is valid the separate SIM, 30 or 90 days?
Do I still have to activate these prior to 18th? I suppose not since this is clearly mentioned on the packaging…?

      • Separate one is 90 days.

It doesn't seem to be any special time limit. I think unrelated to double data offer.

    • -1

      Anyone?

      • When you activate, it says $75 16GB Prepaid.
The Sim will always be 16GB.

    • same here when I picked it up and asked about the 8gb and they said inside the pack and I'll get it when I activate. But now I activate it there is only 3gb, emailed Harvey Norman and someone will get back to me. Should I just go to the store?

  • I just it delivered yesterday. There is a additional sim pack out of the box but these 2 packs are identically same. How can I know that it's 8GB unless I have to activate?

    • +1

when you plug it in, it goes onto the voda website, and start the activation process, but after it tells you 8GB, then leave it?

The double data thing ends on the 18th, so im doing it before then

      • +1

Thats a different type of double data for postpaid plans.

        • +1

oops, oh well, i activated it today and got 16GB anyway

        • @Davo1111:
          Thanks guys

        • @Davo1111:
When I was pre-activate. It said

"SIM confirmed You are on: $75 Prepaid Mobile Broadband. Includes 16GB data within Australia."

          Wow 16 GB. Super happy

  • Is it just me or is the link broken?

  • Link is gone so this is expired now???

  • Bought mine online, which was apparently a mistake, as all i got was a modem box with a single sim, which activated as 3gb…
Now i have to chase down the other sim i was supposed to get as well?
    Not happy at all…

    • +1

take your receipt back to HN and asked for the extra 8G (which worth $75 dollars by itself). When i went and pick it up, i had to reread the thread and told them the right product code as stated by OP, the guys from HN had no idea.

      • ditto.

        • yeh… bought online as in, paid using paypal and got it in the post today…

    • same here, email them and now waiting for a reply…very annoying indeed!

  • I recommend marking this as Expired since it doesn't seem to be relisted, I have a feeling it may have even been a pricing error to begin with.

As per the "Mod edit" there was typo in the stock code for the bonus 8GB SIM pack which would have been the reason why it was pulled off the website. This has caused all sorts of confusion for staff at the stores from them trying to include an 8GB MicroSD card to telling you "it's inside the box." I picked mine up click & collect and it took no less than 5 HN staff members to figure it out. I am not saying anything bad about the staff, they are trained to use the systems in a certain way and when something goes wrong it does not compute. The staff and online customer service were very helpful. Grats to anyone else who managed to scoop this up.

  • Well, either way, my online invoice says pocket wifi and the 8gb sim as seperate items, and i only received the pocket wifi and no extra sim.
Sofar have been through the online support once and they emailed saying someone would be in contact within 24 hours.
Nothing for 2 days, then i got an email saying it had been resolved, with nothing more in the way of details.
Just opened another support query, one way or another i am getting the sim card on my invoice, or a refund.

    • oh really? i emailed them just today 21/8/15 and they said the same thing, staff from the shop will contact me. So maybe it's better I just take my receipt and go back to the shop and question them. Very annoying

  • I ordered this online ut chose to collect at a store. They took my money but they do t have any stock

  • Finally got a response, after finding the right link to get a response for an online order.
If anyone else is having trouble like i did, if you fill out the details on this link you can actually choose online order as a checkbox.
    http://www.harveynorman.com.au/contact-us/#

They responded fairly quickly and are sending me the missing item (according to the response)
