    1GB ram no no ….

With all those good cheap phone nowadays they are not a good buy anymore.

Like Lenovo K3 Note, Zenfone 2, etc.

Actually, this was a surprisingly good phone. You also have to take into account that Motorola will be sending through software updates for security issues like Stagefright, whereas other manufacturers you've listed have been fairly lax when it comes to software updates.

      • -1

you've listed have been fairly lax when it comes to software updates.

I already have many updates with my zenfone 2.

Lenovo K3 Note is for people know how to play with it. There are a lot of custom ROMs.

        • +6

The Moto E is generally aimed at people not entirely comfortable with the custom ROM scene - i.e parents, people not interested in phones, and in that respect it's a fantastic buy. The Zenfone 2 is still not currently available at retail - Asus are still saying they will launch later this year, but haven't done anything yet - so a phone you can walk in and buy is probably preferable to that type of customer as well.

      • Very late reply, but Asus is ok with updates. They've already patched stagefright FYI and probably 5.1 eventually…

Plus you can always flash CM12.1.

Isnt the moto G about the same price?

    • Shop around an quite likely yes.

  • +2

Get the Moto G 2nd for this price. better camera, bigger screen and double front speaker.

    • +2

      And no LTE.

      • my moto G has 4g. Its still got a hopeless camera though and the spks arent much.

unless the phone has a 720p screen it aint worth shat, esp, for $200! thats ridic!

        • +1

That's the Moto G LTE, the Moto G 2nd Gen hasn't actually got LTE. Camera is quite hopeless, the Moto E Gen 2 camera isn't much better in low light, but does Ok in well lit areas(But then which camera doesn't).

      • Well, I'd choose slight better camera, screen and speaker over the extra speed provided by LTE which I don't really need.

        But good point.

  • Agreed, good phone, speaker performance puts my nexus 5 to shame,,lol,,the missus bought the first gen earlier in the year for $136- I'm just surprised at how much the price has increased with the seond gen, lineball with the second gen moto g

  • Good phone. Hopefully Good Guys are clearing stock because they have the Moto G (3rd Gen) phone on the way.

Should have more info on launch/pricing for the Moto G Gen 3 shortly ;)

It's a tough choice between this one and the Meizu M2 Note which has 5.5inch FHD IPS screen, 2G Ram, 2x more powerful SOC, 13MP Sony Camera and a finger print reader or the Huawei Y550 with the same spec for $59.

If you think Motorola is a saint for updates then you are dead wrong. Their Lollipop update to the original Moto G essentially killed the phone.

    • Any reason why you'd get the Meizu instead of the Lenovo K3 Note? (and you'd definitely get either of those before the Moto E!)

      • The Meizu apparently has better display quality and the phone has much less junk than the K3. In theory, Meizu also has better support for future OS updates.

    • The meizu m2 note does not have a finger printer scanner, nor does it have a Sony camera. It is equipped with a 13MP Samsung camera on the back.

      • That's my oversight but you get my point.

        • Well, as a current MEIZU MX5 user, i can say that the build quality of MEIZU is not on par with moto, namely the mTouch button(The home button). The software still needs a lot of work, even with the MediaTek helio X10 processor, it still feels laggy and would freeze a couple times a day, and the English used in the system menu can be funny. Not to mention the phone was bricked from one of the OTA updates this month, i had to go to the official website, download the complete firmware and flash it through recovery myself. I had high hopes for MEIZU and thus has switched from OPO to MEIZU MX5 the day it launched, but in terms of user experience and software, it still has a long way to go. I prefer my experience with OPO and will probably switch back in a couple of days.

    • where can i get the huawei Y550 for $59? please let us know, i need a second phone

      • ebay or gumtree? I still have a couple brand new that i will be selling when i find the time to list them….

Perfect example of how much us westerners are being ripped off by phone oems/retailers. This is a terrible deal.

  • OZ POST is flogging Moto E (dual-sim) with 4gb on-board storage and Android 4.4 for a princely sum of $99.

  • Nice and simple 4G phone and only $159.20 on ebay GG store with CTREAT20 code and Click & Collect.
Glad GG extended this sale into the new catalogue (ending 31Aug15) as I couldn't buy it yesterday with the VIP code.
