  • A 5kW system for $6800 sounds pretty ordinary. $1 per watt installed is bargain territory.

    • For reference I paid $4500 for my 5kw system + $300 to upgrade the inverter to a 3 phase compatible model.

      This was in September 2014.

      • Who did you go with?

      • What brand inverter and panels?

      • Technaus Solar, Growatt inverter (Chinese), can't remember which brand of Chinese panels.

20x Suntech Australia Panels (Technology Developed at UNSW Australia)

Made in China for those curious

    • Hi Slo20, You are correct. As with most solar panels on the market, Suntech has their manufacturing headquarters in China.

I just wanted to make it clear to potential buyers that they weren't made in Australia. For the invertor and rails u mention where they made and manufactured but missed that for the panels.

      • +1

You could've said they are tier 1 panels made in China to make them sound better ;) then again thery are all tier 1 panels when one is trying to sell them lol

Seems reasonably pricy… And the waffle about CSR ownership is just that.
CSR could offload the division to a nobody overnight and wipe their hands of any responsibility.

    • Hi Scubacoles, Thanks for your feedback.

CSR does not try to position itself to be the cheapest in the market and both our equipment and warranties are in-line with this.

With regards to CSR Ownership, we are not a privately owned company. CSR is an ASX200 company that is publicly listed. For example, in the unlikely event should we choose to no longer provide solar to the Australian market, your warranties still reside with our corporate company.

      • Not to split hairs but are u saying CSR is 100% Australian owned?

        • CSR Building Products, yes. Not the sugar side of the business.

        • +2

@BradfordSolar: as a publicly listed company you cannot make that claim.

      • +3

Quality components maybe, but arguably not the best components.

It matters not whether CSR is public or private.. If CSR divests the Solar division and sells it off, warranties would be transferred to the new owner.
Arguably Bradford solar could just be dissolved like any other Solar Company can and the warranties would dissolve with the "Bradford Solar" company. As far as risk is concerned, it's rather irrelevant who owns the "Bradford Solar" Company.

  • Worked in the Solar industry, best advice I can give is buy the best equipment so you won't need to worry about it failing prior to warranty expiring and needing it replaced. Like my boss use to say, tell them we are giving a 10yr workmanship warranty, 'cos we wont be around for 10yrs to honour them!

    • Hope that's not the boss from Green light solar.

  • Throw in a Tesla Power Wall and this would be a Sweet Deal.

Who can use 5kW in daylight hours anyway?. Else you get peanuts for the feed-in power (~$0.06kWh)

    • Hi Steptoe, You re correct, in fact in some cases most retailers will only provide 5 Cent per Kw/h.

Appliances like ducted air conditioners generally require more than a 5kw system to run them. This size system is great for those that draw a high load of power or wish to run many appliances at once.

Everyones circumstances are different, we tailor our quotes to a customers needs based on energy consumption, appliance usage and other factors.

We are looking forward to the release of the Tesla powerwall once its passed the CEC accreditation.

      Regards,
      Bradford Solar.

    • It will be handy though when battery tech becomes affordable .. but who knows when that will be.

      • Hi Noz, Regarding battery technology, we currently also have a special on our 5KW Micro Inverter system which is also battery ready.

Enphase is an American based Micro Inverter manufacturer and is releasing their battery storage solution in Q1 2016, will be very different to products like Tesla.

this is subject to CEC approval.

Feel free to get in touch as this special is being run across most states of Australia.
