660

Shouldnt have gone to BigW today :(

in - WASTED money in some of the good deals which I really not wanted:

9KG cylinder for $10 - Price quoted $20 but scanning at $10
Knife set for $2 - Tried them and they are not bad at all

Had to go again to BigW to buy following after my home manager heard about deals… shouldn't have told her
Lots of crockery - Cup/Plates/Tea pot was marked to $1 - $5
Camping stuff - $1 - $10

Some electric items are heavily reduced too - ice Pop maker - $5 etc…

Found all of that at Melton Vic BigW, hoping its minimum Vic wide discount…

Lots of stock for all at Melton store…

    I am assuming the 9kg LPG bottles aren't filled with LPG right?

    Good post OP.

    • +2

      I wish they were :(

      • noob here… so after getting these $10 9kg bottles, how do we fuel it with gas?

        • +12

          how do we fuel it with gas?

          you take it to a place that fills gas bottles.

        • +1

          I recommend a local BCF or Rays, if not some petrol stations will fill it albeit more expensive

        • +1

          @jv:

          That's really what I am trying to ask… where do you fill gas bottles at petrol stations? Only ever swap them…

        • +2

          @wildstone:

          where do you fill gas bottles at petrol stations?

          The ones that have a giant gas bottle outside… Often near one of the LPG pumps…

        • petrol station, Masters, Bunnings…

        • +1

          Go to woolworths gas station, with EDR 8.5 kg Swap & Go is only $24.99

        • +8

          you blow into them. Make sure your mouth forms a tight seal

        • +1

          @nisarg:

          Masters in Adelaide is $22.98 for Swap n Go

        • +1

          @nisarg:

          How much would it be to refill as compared to swap & go?
          How much would it be to get a cylinder with full tank of gas?

        • +2

          Drive through at maccas.

        • @outlander: Was thinking this and a few other not so conventual ways. What has the world come to?

        • +2

          you need to eat a dodgy curry and fill up the gas yourself.

        • @outlander: Surely you use the other end to blow into them?

        • @wildstone:

          How much would it be to refill as compared to swap & go?

          A refill costs under $20. But it depends on where you get it filled, my local is $17.

          How much would it be to get a cylinder with full tank of gas?

          Most places don't sell "full cylinders" - they sell emply ones and then fill them after sale.

          You can do the maths for yourself on how much it will cost to "create" a full one.

        • @llama:

          Thanks llama, so if you have not got an empty tank you could not do 'swap & go' is that right?

          To do swap and go I would need to spend $10 (this deal) + $22.98 (Masters price) = $32.98?

        • my local servo costs $15 to refill.
          toongabbie, nsw

        • @wildstone:

          Correct. Or yeah fill it at a servo for a few dollars less.

        • @wildstone: you understand that a refill is essentially the same as a swap & go ???

      I remember seeing some pesky kids giggling as they were turning on all the valves of those gas bottles. Little did they know they were empty. The fools!

      • One time I turned one and air gushed out! random!

    • +5

      I mentioned that in post.. at scan it came $10.. receipt is also attached in pdf

        • Did you see the pdf… receipt is there.. I checked two and both scanned $10…

        • attached image is in pdf form

        • @jv: Please click the image in post.. it is pdf not normal image

          @niagraBzO:

          Thanks for the time taken to post this along with the attached PDF, greatly appreciated by all (except JV who seems intent of destroying the deal).

          @jv:

          You need to make an effort

          @Maverick-au:

          except JV who seems intent of destroying the deal

          How ?

        • +1

          @jv:

          By being critical without reading the whole deal.

  • part of the dropzone stuff that's been going on for a few months.. hard to find the 9kg bottle these days

  • Pic shows 4kg not 9kg cylinders.

    • +2

      Look further down

  • Brisbane MacArthur Big W has the Shark Sonic Professional Steam Mop for $100 (usually $248). Had a drop zone price tag, but was located at the usual place for the steam mops.

    I drove past a gasfitters house and picked up an out of date bottle for nothing
    Took it to bunnings and got an in date bottle with gas in it
    I now have a free in date bottle that I could refill elsewhere.
    Saves $10

    • +15

      Great, so what is this gas fitter's house address so we can all drive past and get a free bottle? :)

      • Yellow pages .
        I am sure there is one near you that doesnt want to pay to dispose of bottles

    • Thought they charged extra in the bottle was out of date?

      • Nope

  • I got a 2kg bottle on clearance, but now I'm concerned the quality is really poor. You wouldn't want it rolling around in the boot on a camping trip. Probably fine for a stationary BBQ outside though.

  • +6

    I picked one up in hard rubbish and just done swap and go ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

    • True OZBargainer

    • Isn't that how we all ended up with two cylinders for all the BBQs we bought from deals posted on here?

  • I wouldn't trust cheap gas bottles, there's way too many examples of them going wrong with poor welds and no quality control. The certification process doesn't require actual testing anymore - just that someone from the (dodgy, international) manufacturer signs off on it.

    • +1

      If you're worried, just swap and go it within a while. I've had a couple of el cheapo bottles over the years after you couldn't get the Manchester Oz made ones anywhere anymore, no issues.

      A lot of service stations do pretty cheap fills, they usually advertise out the front. And yes, you can refill a swap and go bottle usually.

      • -2

        So your risk mitigation step is to hope it doesn't fail straight away then make it someone else's problem? This ignores the whole problem itself (they can and regularly DO fail on first fill) and dude… karma much?

        • Mmm, would the gas company put their name behind dodgy gas bottles?

          We recycle thousands of gas bottles every year that do not meet our quality and safety standards. We also make them ‘safe’ for recycling by removing any traces of gas so that our recycling friends can stay safe, too.

          http://www.elgas.com.au/blog/400-10-reasons-why-swapngo-is-b…

        • @eug:

          They don't pressure/xray test the bottles individually unless the've expired or they find damage - there's no possible way that's financially viable.

        • @yaleman: Does that mean you don't use swap and go because you don't trust their bottles?

        • @eug:

          Not anymore.

        • +1

  • Might have to get some swap n go to use it with last months patio heater

  • can anyone confirm if they pick up a 9kg gas cylinder for $10? is it an Australia wide deal or everyday reward card deal?

  • Called big W Dubbo NSW … none left :(

  • They had plenty of 2kg bottles & 3x4kg bottles left @ Epping store this afternoon but No 9kg bottles left.

  • God Bless niagraBzO

    I managed to get two 9 Kg New Elgas Swap n Go Bottles with Family & Friends 10% off discount coupon for $9.00 each from the Melton Store ( Had called the store and kindly requested to keep two aside for me , Kudos, What a service !)
