D-Link DCS-932L Day/Night Cloud Network Camera $27 @ Big W

740

I spied this deal: D-Link DCS-932L reduced from $68 to $30. Using this weekend's 10% all purchases at Big W barcode reduces this price further to $27.

Cheapest price on static ice = $71.62, followed by $75 for the next 16 stores.

Enjoy!

  • nice, they was $40 a few months ago

  • How they compare to the $19 Office One IP Cameras from Kmart that were on OZB a couple of months ago?

    • +1

Probably similar hardware specs, but these work with the D-link cloud & mobile apps.

    • +5

I bought 3 of those when they were initially reduced to $29 (the indoor tilt/pan models).

This D-Link doesn't tilt/pan, however they match the OfficeOne's night vision, 640x480 res and both Wireless N/Ethernet connectivity. I personally became concerned with the constant pinging from the OfficeOne's IP Cameras to various Chinese Servers, clear-text passwords on unsecured firmware etc.. I would steer clear of them unless you know how to use VLAN's etc. Surely I could trust this D-Link to be a little more secure…

I bought this D-Link so I can have 4 network cameras displayed nicely on a computer monitor (in a grid).

      • +1

        Pinging Chinese servers?

        • +3

These OfficeOne cameras (which are really generic Foscams) "call home", enabling you (or a hacker) to view your cameras even without a static IP connection to your ISP. You cannot spoof a DNS entry or default gateway.

The Foscams are more commonly known for trolls hacking the pan/tilt functionality and screaming "wake up baby" etc…

        • @daewoo:

First I have heard of this for both office one and foscam and a lot of people use them both

I have heard if you didn't have them password protected it could happen

        • +3

          @Twisty:

It gets worse. I've read you need to set every username/password field (e.g. all 8 possible users from memory) or hackers can gain root shell access with default passwords (these run basic linux firmware). Before alarm bells go off, this may be on firmware from 3 years ago rather than today.

In brief, it is the most insecure security camera i've heard of :) Some times it's worth paying a little more (in this case, buying a D-Link).

Meanwhile, I still use 3 of the OfficeOne IP Cameras. They are quarantined from the rest of my network.

        • +1

          @daewoo: Totally agree.
I purchased a bunch when on sale at kmart.
Best to block all internet bound traffic at the firewall with these babys.

        • @shane_au:

Can you still view via mobile if you do this?

        • +2

@Twisty: nope… and neither can anyone else.

        • @shane_au:

What's the point of them then?

        • +3

@Twisty: To record to a hard drive

  • Which store is it op? Is it available in all stores??

    • There were 2 or 3 at Big W Stafford today.

      • bought one at Stafford midday today 4 left then - setting it up now - works ok on cable - yet to setup wireless

    • +1

I've taken the last one from Fairfield, NSW. It should be all stores that have stock.

I personally would call my local store first thing tomorrow morning, and ask:
      - what are their stock levels (post above has hinted another store had 2-3)
      - what is the closest Big W that has stock

  • can you buy online ?

  • Didn't these have poor reviews

    • +1

Yeah, they're certainly not worth paying RRP for.
      I'd say they're worth around $30-40, so $27 is a bargain.

    • +2

when i first got mine 3 years ago it was terrible with constant crashing and connection issues, but after the last couple of firmware updates it works quite well. i would say anything below $50 is a bargain. I don't think you can find a comparable one from another branded company for less.

    • +1

I have this for 3 years or so.

It is very reliable, never have any problem.

      Functional wise,
You can download the mydlink app from App Store for iOS.
Then view the camera away from home.

Also can setup motion alert to send out images to email.

Low resolution actually uses less bandwidth for viewing and send out images.

  • +1

No more stock when I visited. These are last one they are getting rid of.

  • I am having problem installing their D View cam on my surface pro 2. It keeping popping out error msg saying minimum resolution has to be 1024x768. Called customer service but they are not very helpful.

Anyone who owns this come across this issue?

I just want to record the footage if motion detection has been triggered. Any third party software suggestion?

  • -1

Anybody found a good way of using an ip camera as a baby monitor? (good software?)

    • -2

WTF is the neg for? Fool.

    • The link's picture shows this unit being used as a baby monitor, so I guess so.

      • +1

They advertise that on all of them. For example, even on my NC200 which doesn't have night vision.

However, there's no suitable features inbuilt for it with the default software.
        - On-by-audio is what you need I guess
        - Motion detection is useless for an immobile baby
        - Alternatively, what are you going to do - leave a laptop on with video/audio feed next to your bed all night? That'll constantly disrupt your sleeping.

So I think my question is perfectly reasonable - has anyone found an actual practical way to use one of these as a baby monitor, or will I need to fork out for an actual purpose-built baby monitor (and spending extra isn't the ozbargain way…)

  • Wonder how these compare with Xiaomi Yi IP camera with Night Vision. I ordered one from Gearbest when it was USD28, still waiting to receive it.

  • Anyway we can check store stock?

    • Ring the store in the morning and ask someone to confirm its stock level is surely the obvious way? If the SKU is not on offer for online purchasing, then you'll have to wait until the store next opens anyway.

See, drop zone deals are very ymmv deals, hence why I didn't post this as a deal, and only on forum.

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/207231

The chances of you getting this is very close to zero. (Camera deal).

  • Does it only work with Dlink software/app on the phone or can I use it with an app like TinyCam (on android)?

  • Can you use more than one camera and see multiple feeds at the same time? Or can you only have one camera?

  • +2

Called up highpoint and qv (vic) but no stock.

  • Altona had 1, rep said none, made her look up and indeed, 1 left in the back.

  • +3

No stock in Macquarie Park and Top Ryde.

    • +1

There was two left at macq :) in the computer area, not the drop zone :)

Now there is none left and I have two :) hehe

      OzBargain Hunter

      • If only I could revoke my [+] vote to "No stock in Macquarie Park and Top Ryde."!

        Nice spotting :)

      • I didnt go to the drop zone, but neither did I look in the computer section. This was in Top Ryde.

Called Macquarie centre to ask and was told none in stock.

  • BigW Calamvale QLD had many in stock. I bought 4.

  • No stock Ballarat. Any other half decent options available ?

  • Nothing at Burleigh 4220

  • Just Tried Rockdale (one on hold), east gardens, Katoomba, Penrith, Mittagong, dapto, bankstown and some I can't remember, none.

  • Are these OK for outdoors? Need to get an electrician for the power?

  • Any is south australia?

  • None at Doncaster, box hill or Epping vic

  • None in BigW North Lakes.

  • +2

I've had one of these for a couple of years and found it great checking for nocturnal activity of animals/wildlife/rats/possums/etc. in my shed/roof/under the floor. Currently wireless to a monitor observing arriving people with motion detect/recording activated.

Very versatile little jigger. I also have 3 of the DCS-930L none-IR versions with similar uses.

    At this price, bargain.

  • I have both the indoor & outdoor cams,,,, set them up no problems cable & wifi…. however I want to use them in place of the USB cameras that I run with a program called Active Webcam….when I try & search for the cameras it doesn't find them,,,, even if I put in their IP address's..anyone help with ideas would be great.

  • Rganxs 4 that Thatwey,,,, but sureley there is alot of cameras that are not on the list that would or should be detected by a program,,,especially when the info is inserted correctly???

    • It all depends on the chips and firmware etc.

Different companies use another companies hardware innards, that is why the unlisted hardware that works is found under a different name. But if the innards of yours isn't used in any of the listed devices it ain't gunna play the game for you.

      • Okay I see what you mean,,,,, cheers for that…. I'd use the CMS program that comes with it if it was a bit easier to use & understand….You don't happen to know of any 3rd party programs that work with the Office1 cams that are easy to set up with motion detection??

        • +1

also 1 of them did scan up as a Foscam on another program, but I still cou;dn't get an image… for $15 a camera I think they're worth playing around with,,,,as they give a fairly decent picture….& being wifi is a big+…..

        • Nah, I just use the D-Link stuff. I had 4 of the DCS cameras hidden around my house while it was on the market, on open days I'd sit somewhere in my car with my Samsung Pad and keep an eye on things back home. Very handy.

        • HAHAHAHA,,,sneaky….I'm Thatwey to (pardon the pun),,,people don't realize that a webcam can be monitoring when the monitor is not on…. 1 day I'll either get them to work with Active or I'll find another program thats just as easy to use as Active…I suppose like anything thing, once uno how to use it, it is easy

  • +1

Sorry bad typing…was meant to say Thanxs Thatwey
