Are these legal to use in Australia ?

No, not legal to import or to install. Your insurance may not cover any damage or injury caused by their use.

      • IF they are illegal to import or install then this is clearly not a bargain…

      • Is there any information to support this?

I'm just curious on where the Australian Law draws the line on lightbulbs.

I got a similar bulb off eBay a few months ago. Unfortunately the remote that came with it didn't emit a strong enough signal to pass through a lamp shade so now it just sits on a shelf gathering dust :/.

  • LiFX rip off?

The XiaoMi Yeelight ones are a lot better and safer. They even sell them locally… but pricey.

      Any links?
Also, anyone know if these will 'start' on the colour 'last' used? We bought some cheap ebay one which went outside on a sensor, but reset to flashing red upon start up. They lasted a few days before we couldn't stand looking like a brothel.

  • I use the lights from http://www.limitlessled.com … a bit pricier … but great quality and still far cheaper than Lifx or Wemo or Hue.

    • How do these work in terms of the bridge, the app, and the remote control? What is connected to what, and how do you set it up and use it?

      • Fairly simple … put in the lightbulbs and install your strip lights to the controller. Then I just installed one Wifi Bridge (US$18) and connected the lights to it (worked straight away for me).

There are 2 Apps on iOS which I use: Home Remote by Bouncing Ball —> Amazing App with lots of functionality (there is a companion app for the Mac), it also allows me to control my WEMO switches. The official App by limitlessLed recreates the physical remote … works well but I prefer the HomeRemote App. (there are Android Apps too … but no idea how well they are done).

I also have two physical remotes linked which work instantly (nice backup and still one swipe less).

The whole system didn't fail once since I installed it around 4 months ago. I mainly use the warm/cold lights … the colours are just too much for me.
The next project will be a strip light for the kitchen bench. I personally think for the pricing you can't beat this system and they have the C-Tick. But you see that you can get cheaper ones as demonstrated in this deal.

Negative: No IFTTT integration which would be nice.

This would be fun to play tricks on my mum while we are working in the office.
She'll be thinking wtf is going on but will not say a word about it.
Maybe coz she might think she is going mad and doesnt want anyone to know.
