  • Was after a wireless desktop for my XPS 13 just a few days ago (also ordered the BenQ monitor from Kogan through another deal). Ended up getting the Microsoft Wireless Comfort Desktop 5000 for $54 ($149 at Microsoft's website, $99 at OfficeWorks) through a pricematch on the weekend.

Unless you're extremely fussy and plan to use this for many hours every day (even then it may come down to being a matter of personal preference), at that price I would say the 5000 is better value than this Logitech, although I much prefer Logitech's tiny unified receiver to the much longer Microsoft's one. You're basically paying the extra for the LCD Cap Lock, Num Lock and Scroll Lock indicators. The 5000 only has a low battery indicator.

Still a good price for the Logitech if you're after that specific set.

    It was cheaper here:

The above was just last week as well.

I got this combo cheaply off the Logitech site awhile ago.

I was never a fan of the keyboard with its very low profile keys. They kind of blended together.

But I love the mouse. The forward/back buttons on the side are fantastic when browsing the web.

Also, the LCD is hard to see in daylight. It's not as clear as the picture would suggest.

    Just my experience.

    • Sounds like you'd prefer the keyboard on the MS Wireless Comfort Desktop 5000. The keys are large, stand tall and are nicely separated. The keyboard also has a slight curve, unlike Logitech's. It also has a ton of shotcut keys (more than Logitech's keyboard) that can be programmed with the MS Keyboard and Mouse Center software.

The MS laser mouse is nice and chunky and nicely feels the palm of the hand. It also has the back / forward buttons for browsing (but can be programmed as well). The only thing I'm not a fan of is that the mouse is symmetrical, i.e. was optimised to be easily switchable for left or right hand use and, therefore, is not as ergonomic as it could be. From what I can see on Logitech's image, the shape of their mouse is optimised for the right-handed use, which I'd probably prefer.

Anyway, for $54 I'm rather thrilled.

      • I've tried the MS Comfort and I did like it. In fact, MS do make good peripherals.

I actually like low profile keyboards but like the keys to be more defined and spaced better than they are on the Logitech MK710. I'm using a Dell keyboard that I think is a Logitech rebranded, quite similar to their TK820. Found it dirt cheap on eBay and have been very happy.
