    Ipod or Ipad LoL

    • The little thing aka iPod.

Just thought it is worth mentioning, you won’t even be able to store your offline Apple Music collections on nano.

    http://9to5mac.com/2015/07/17/ipod-nano-shuffle-apple-music-…

  • Thanks @oversimplified - very good point.
Which is why the iPod (or iPhone) is the way to go unless you have a music library to sync. Only good ting about nano is the FM radio when you're out and about but these days internet radio is better (and doesn't lose reception like radio does).

    • I think that the DAP market is becoming too small for even Apple. Perhaps that's why Apple seems to be pulling out on DAP market, I was seriously hoping for a revamped iPod Classic with SSD. I was also expecting WiFi function on Nano.

Hmmm, that gets me thinking, I should replace the HDD on my old iPod Classic with microSD cards… Or would it be much economical to grab Fiio X1?… Hmmm decisions, decisions, decisions.

      • market is shifting :) iRiver Astell&Kern AK120 TITAN on ebay for AU $1,549.00

        • The DAP market is becoming more niche, but Apple is not willing to go into that kind of market it seems. The DAPs that are currently released are mostly going for that audiophile market, smaller in numbers (in terms of people, probably in market size as well, since not many people own a DAP).

100 card is a good bonus but I didn't realise how expensive the ipod is.

    • The card would be the only reason to buy it. $219 is RRP

      • I thought the small ipods were only $100-$150, didnt think they were so expensive.

  • Other than the size what benefit does iPod nano have over iPod touch?

    • This used to be a thing but it's prob been phased out since the much older generation iPods, but the iPod nano used to have a radio function. They would use the earphone cable as an antenna to receive local FM radio. This was one of the biggest advantages of the nano that I can think of.

    • Smaller size, easier to listen to while exercising and cheaper. Much less functionality than an iPod touch.

Before the unfair Apple price hike these were $149 delivered so essentially you are paying $70 for a $100 iTunes gift card. Routinely iTunes cards can be had for 15%-25% off.

Given Apple ignored the iPod Nano/Shuffle in the latest update i'd say their days are numbered. Down the track you will be able to get these on clearance.

Unless you really need this now - Caveat emptor!

I wouldn't say the price hike up was a completely unfair one. AUD exchange rate did fall by heaps.

      • -3

like that affects the chinese labour rates…

        • +2

It affects revenue after conversion and how much profit you get from Australia after conversion. MS increased its price on Surface Pro 3s etc etc, it's not just Apple. The exchange rate is at like 1:1.30 something right now, it fell heaps since the parity.

I didn't say it was completely justified either. The price increase probably is larger than the currency rate change. That said, compared to the times when we had parity, you get 25c less for every dollar you earn if you convert using 1:1.30 vs 1:1 (and it's at 1:1.42 according to Google, so that's like 30% decrease in revenue just from the USD AUD exchange rate change since the parity, if we just consider exchange rate). So you get less from the sales if you charge the same amount.

Im sick of the rubbish written on ozbargain when it comes to prices of Apple and how we are getting ripped off. we are NOT. its so simple to prove - the Nano in USA is AUD$228 to buy. this assumes a 8% state tax that every person in America has to pay. some states have lower state tax some are higher. the actual price you would pay would be higher as this does not allow for credit card conversion charges. this is probably the lowest price in the world right now. yet people want to winge.

      • You can use Australian currency in the U.S. now?..

How does this compare sound quality wise to like a fiio X1?

        • +1

I think you are going slightly tangent to what s/he's saying, which is Apple is not charging more in Australia compared to in USA (whether that is true or not, I haven't checked).

  • Even better deal for those who choose to use their store credits which are expected today.

    • +1

Lol you are the one who always remembers credits :)

  • I remember when they use to be $130 last year before the additional Apple Tax…..

  • The link for online is - http://www.thegoodguys.com.au/apple-ipod-nano-16gb---white-a… but it does not mention this promo.
    The current catalogue does though.

    • Yeah I don't know how online works so I would rather go in store

  • They are actually selling these for $199. Just went to the Northland location and got one for $199 including $100 iTunes gift card.

    Receipt

    • Thanks Neil :) Was it the silver model you got or did you get another colour?

      • White & Silver. The other colour, I think blue was also the same price but they couldn't give the $100 with that model.

        • Ok cool, thanks for putting it in post :)
