Currently, Coles is offering the same $40 Plan starter pack until Tuesday for $20.00.

Admittedly this is $1 cheaper and is shipped, but if I were to buy two of these at Coles I'd also get flybuys points and also a 4c/L fuel discount.

    • Nice.
I still have a coupke coles gift card from vintage cellars amex cashback.

      1x $40 voda starter = $20
Find some sales from coles to make up $10
      Get that 4c shell voucher

      • Dodgey treatment by this Phonebot store. I purchased five SIMs at $12 ea, however only one would activate and the others invalid. That was from this deal https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/172709.

Contacted and returned them, however no refund as promised or any further correspance, always unavailable. Care to reply rep? It would be only reasonable to complete the refund.

For just $1 more you can get these directly from Vodafone or from a reliable and reputable seller like Coles.

        • Coles is selling the $40 starter packs for $20 until Tuesday.

If you go directly to a Vodafone outlet chances are you'd have to pay the full $40 for the same starter pack.

        • @KaptnKaos: $20 with free delivery directly from Vodafone online. Offer ends 15/09/15. http://www.vodafone.com.au/personal/prepaid/prepaid-options
Bonus would be that they would ship propmtly and have a decent expiry date (probably about 24 months or even no expiry), unlike Phonebot being slow to dispatch and the short expiry date.

        • @chyawala:

Nice find. Apart from the potential of flybuys points and fuel discounts, effectively the same as coles.

        • +3

pm your order number plz. i forwarded it to our manager for refund. ill hit him up tomo.

        • @erroorfree: Sent.

        • @chyawala: do advise the outtome please..

        • @ashar: After a couple more emails and a couple more calls, finally received refund, albeit 2 months later. Thanks Rep for assisting with the refund process. Neg vote revoked.

  • Activate By 10th October 2015

VF sims do not have an expiry..please remove this.

    • just need these activated by 10 oct @this price

      • Incorrect, they can be activated anytime according to VF.

        • +1

Yeah please clarify this, as all VF data sims I've used in the past had no activation date (essentially good forever until activated)

          Are these somehow different ?

        • @Click_It: Morever, my experience with Phonebot is that they may not get the expiry date right, as four of the five SIMs they sent me were expired. Fuming it was such a waste of time. Still no refund on returning them.

        • @chyawala:

I've bought from phonebot successfully before but not VF data sims. I considering buying some of these but with a questionable expiry date that couldn't be clarified in out. I have 2 x 19gb still to use and won't need to activate until a few months time.

I'm pretty sure there is no activation date but I'll just carry on with what I have for now.

      • C'mon buddy, since when did Vodafone have expiry dates on new prepaid starter packs? Really??

  • Thanks rep. Grabbed some new MBB sims. Previous order arrived OK too. :-)

  • Vodafone told me that if you are already a Vodafone customer, then these starter packs result in you ending up with a new phone number. The new phone number is the number in the starter pack. I understand you would loose the Vodafone phone number you used to have.

The Vodafone rep told me that people coming from other phone companies can port their number to Vodafone. However, existing Vodafone customers can only change to the stater pack number.

Is this correct please Phonebot Store Rep?

    • This is starter pack so you can not use this as recharge credit or something. If you want to use this, then port your number from other provider or use new number from starter pack.

    • Port out, port in.

      'Nuff said.

      :)

  • so after the first month of 19.90, I have to pay 40 for this?

    • I'm interested in this question as well, if someone with actual experience could chip in.

From what I understand of the word prepaid, your next recharge amount is up to you and you can pick a different/same plan depending on your recharge amount.

      • called them. yup its just for the first month. $20. not much of a deal.

  • Vodafone plans have gone to shit recently, used to be 300min international calls now 90mins, don't offer 1 year mobile year plans anymore, gigs, used to be go Vodafone for the best deals, worth shopping around now Optus just as competitive

    • But optus has even worse int call rate?

  • Do all Vodafone data SIM cards have to be activated by certain date? And if so, where do I find the 'activate by' date?

    • There is no expiry date for Vodafone SIM cards.

      • So why…"VODAFONE 3GB DATA SIM - Activate By 10th October 2015 - data lasts for 28 days once sim is activated"?

        • +2

Let's play a quick game of "true, not true"…

          data lasts for 28 days

          is true

          Activate by 10 October 2015

          is not true

Actually, you'll probably notice that around 8 November there will be another Vodafone prepaid mobile broadband deal posted here.

Perhaps, now you're sitting there saying, 'KaptnKaos is off the rails tonight, how can anybody say that for sure?' Well, allow me…

Let's take a look at the OP's last post: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/203284

Posted 19 July 2015. So you might think, 'I'm gonna stock up on these MBB SIMs so I can use them until the end of time yaaayyy!' but wait - that post has a condition that you must activate before 10 August. So you resign yourself to the fact that you can only buy two SIMs - one that would be activated in July and expire in August, and the second to be activated by 10 August and would expire…. NOW!

And guess what! In perfect timing, the OP comes up with a brand spanking new deal which is strikingly similar to their previous post! WOW!

If these scare tactics were not included in the opening post, there would not be a recurring stream of revenue for the seller.

And keep in mind also - the SIMs would expire within 28 days after activation anyway ;) no need to push us to activate by such-and-such date.

And that is all for tonight's round of "true, not true". See you tomorrow!

        • Looks convoluted, and no doubt some people who purchase may end up unsatisfied. Note that nowhere on the website does it make any claim on expiry date, merely a remark on this forum.

        • @KaptnKaos:
I do understand what you're trying to say, however, I had thought the product itself has written expiration date on it, which would be something new to me as I had never seen one. Perhaps some rep mentioned it as a joke…

        • @chyawala: perhaps the site was updated after your comment because it shows this on the linked page (android chrome):

Vodafone 3GB Prepaid Broadband Multifit SIM - Activate By 10th October 2015

        • @durendal:

I had thought the product itself has written expiration date

If you read the OP's description, that's exactly what you're led to believe.
In the case of Vodafone starter packs, it is not true to imply that they have an expiry date.

I wouldn't know about Telstra, but I do know that Optus starter packs have an expiry date. The starter pack that is beside me now (which I purchased in the days of Click Frenzy) has an expiry date of 01 Mar 2016.

        • @justin_tsoi: :-p So its now updated on the site to state there is indeed an expiry, yet in contradiction the rep updated this post to now say there is no expiry. WTF?

        • @chyawala:
It already sounds pretty dodgy as a deal, perhaps should, for the good of the OZbargain, be avoided.

        • @KaptnKaos:

Good detective work and use of logic

  • guys, it says activate by 10th oct only cuz this is a special batch from voda. it doesnt have an expiry youre right but we need these activated thats all. just to avoid someone stocking them up and using them for the rest of the year.

    • +1

cuz this is a special batch from voda

      or

just to avoid someone stocking them up

      I'm confused. :\

      • it says activate by 10th oct

        AND

        it doesnt have an expiry

        So am I…

        • Ok last time….VF Sims"DO NOT EXPIRE" end of story.

This company probably gets a bonus if they are activated by a specified date.

        • +2

          @nocure:
Tell that to the OP, who seems to be contradicting himself. Deals should be clearly stated. I'm relieved, and not taking this offer. Cheers

  • Can I use this in a Voda pocket WiFi device just for the Data?

    • Hi mate
yes you can use it for data only

      cheers
