    I'd rather walk, it's free.

    • Haha, good point - still lots of fun!

  • +5

ONLY $774 - definitely not much..

  • +3

Man they're practically giving it away at 774 DOLLARS

  • +1

How many required to become a mini-segway gang? And are these for midgets?

  • -2

If anyone uses this in the city, I hope you fall and break a leg. Had enough of skateboarders and roller skating in the city.

    • Ease up gramps

      • Bloody whippersnappers and scissor-heads.

Are these not around AU$430-440 delivered from AliExpress sellers?

    • exactly, US$200 and another $200 to deliver (cos its heavy) from aliexpress. not a deal. Check youtube for the reviews of the IOHAWK and the ones on aliexpress and they say they are the same.

        Hey Guys,

Upfront it may seem more expensive, but, I can assure you that most aliexpress sellers use LG batteries or even generic chinese versions which are lower quality. All our batteries are Authentic Samsung Batteries which are high capacity and last longer. The board Includes express shipping using DHL, which alone for a 10kg+ item is costly.

Feel free to ask me if you have any questions!

EDIT: I've never seen a aliexpress seller selling other than generic chinese batteries, which many have been known to catch fire. I certainly wouldn't risk it.

        • A good salesman doesn't need to criticize others' product to sell his own.

This was cheaper late last month. Doesn't seem like much of a deal to me…

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/208304

EDIT: That other deal is still active after all, so it still is cheaper. No deal here… (also many other offers going around too)

    • Hey Owl,

The post you linked is of boards that use LG batteries. Much cheaper to source for the boards than Authentic Samsung Batteries.

      • +2

So, Samsung cells are better than LG? From what I can find online, there's no definitive consensus on that. Even Audi are using both for their new electric cars… http://cleantechnica.com/2015/08/15/500-kilometer-all-electr…

Also, your site claims "over 10 miles" range (ie over 16km - might want update your product details for the Australian metric market rather than just copy and paste from the US) while the supposed inferior LG cell based device claims 20km?

        • In the mini segway industry, Samsung is the most highly regarded batteries, having the best battery life and safest track record. We are an honest Australian Business and up to 20km is the longest all boards will travel with the current technology not over, any other website advertising higher is probably lying.

        • @tcole:

Samsung is the most highly regarded batteries, having the best battery life and safest track record

OK then. Please post the research to back up these claims.

What are the legalities on these?

I was under the impression that Segways cannot be ridden on footpaths, or roads and are purely for private property use only.

    • The HawkBoard has a very compact footprint, (a little wider than an average person’s shoulders) it can easily be used on sidewalks, however check with your local authorities to ensure that it is not illegal to operate your HawkBoard on public sidewalks. For example, we live in Melbourne and we ride them around everywhere.

        sidewalks

        That does not compute.

Probably same rules as a razor scooter. Just a Helmet.

    • Don't know really but I know that they can be used around the Brisbane River precinct (South Bank, etc) on group tours. Maybe it various from state to state.

      • Yes the state of Brisbane River has very lenient road laws.

      • In Victoria I believe they allow tour groups to use Segways (I found an older news article that made mention of a relaxing of the rules).

        EDIT:
You are not allowed to use motorised skateboards, roller skates or roller blades on public roads, footpaths or nature strips. But, you can use these on private property.

In qld, as long as the motor outputs less than 200w it would be legal to ride (with a helmet). I haven't looked very hard at hawkboard's website but I can't seem to find the output. I would recommend the rep add this spec to the website.

      • In qld, as long as the motor outputs less than 200w it would be legal to ride (with a helmet).

that would be the magic number i think all around aus. under 200w and its not classed as a "motor vehicle" (aka a car) so no licensing/ADR/rego etc. over 200W and they are illegal in any public space

  • all the price talk aside, I had attempted one of these in China.
Kinda difficult but fun once you've got the balancing act down.

The unicylce(?) Segway is so much more fun!!

    EDIT: AIRWHEEL! that's right

    • The HawkBoard is certainly fun to ride! I've never tried a unicycle segway but im sure they are simmilar!

Airwheel are much more expensive "Was $1799, only $1349

  • Can you please clarify below: if it's rides @ 12km max an hour than on 6-7 hour battery life that should equate to 12 x 6.5 = 78km on one charge?

Lasts 6-7 Hours on 1 Full charge [over 10 miles]
    Max Speed: 12 km/h
    Battery: Samsung Lithium-ion 36v 4.4AH
    Charging Time: 2-3Hours

    • Hey Gavman,

The Board lasts a while when used at a lower power (i.e. 5km instead of 12km). This is normal for all electric boards/vehicles as using a lower power setting drains the battery more efficiently.

      • Ah ok. So you vary the speed at which it traveling

        • Exactly

        • so in ur opinion at max speed continuosly running, how long could the battery last on one charge?

        • I haven't personally continuously ridden one for long enough without stopping for it to run out, however, on average they run between 13-14km.

        • +1

@tcole: Wait… so what do they last 6-7 hours doing? 2kph?

  • +3

Proven by Casey Neistat that you can get these boards from China for much cheaper https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4z61pIsuI3A

They're all over Asia too. The next big thing to be popular and mass produced, but of course more expensive when it comes with a label.

    • Locally or with a $200 shipping attached and no assurance it's
      Any good?

  • so how do these boards fare against pebbles or other footpath debris?

    • Gravel and grass is fine. It would depend on the thickness and spread of the pebbles.

  • +1

Not a bargain. These devices are available all over the place on line for a LOT less than this. The carry-on about his product being magically better than the same product sold by heaps of other people just doesn't fly.

    • Hey Douglasb,

I went checked over both of the links you provided and both are outdated models. The Aliexpress link uses generic chinese batteries and the eBay link uses outdated gyroscopic sensors. Both models are shipped using non-courier services which take 21-30 days. Yes, it is correct to say they are cheaper but you don't get a good product for the price at all.

      • +1

Rubbish, they're close enough, functionally, to be the same in practical terms as the item you're selling. Esoteric waffle about battery brands or gyroscope models is completely irrelevant with this type of product. I ride around on my generic chinese self-balancing unicycle with its generic chinese batteries and last generation gyroscopes and it works perfectly well and the battery lasts for ages. I bought a second battery, I've never needed to use it. The self-balancers I've linked work, right? So what's the problem?

The bottom line is, you're slagging off your competitors because they're nearly three hundred dollars cheaper than you for what is, for all practical purposes, the same product. This is OzBargain, not OzRipOff. Take your American-style features/benefits sales tactics someplace else, please.

I chose to look for cheaper alternatives and downvoted you because I am annoyed by the way you're working so hard at slagging off your competitors.

I will not buy from you, even if your product is better, because you're being so rude about your competitors' products.

A good salesman doesn't need to criticize his competitor's product to sell his own.

  • How much do these batteries cost if it's all about the batteries??

  • +2

These are not allowed in Melbourne
