Used to be regularly available at the $80 mark (for which I purchased mine) at Dick Smith during the infrequent spend $XX get $X off sales, but it seems they've run out of stock in stores in most major locations.

AUD is lower so retailers can jack up prices, wait 2 years when this GST on overseas goods comes in retailers will jack prices even further.

      • +1

Wasn't that long ago that it was available for $74 though.

But I do agree, the rapidly falling AUD and incoming overseas-GST will hit us consumers hard :(

Got mine for $68.26 in May.
And I finally found a use for mine yesterday; as a PC speaker. My PC is a Mac Mini. True stories!

Have this, punchy little unit for its small size.

Good price for a good speaker.

Worth noting the successor to this speaker, the SRS-X33, has been release. Battery life and some of the distortion were fixed in the new model.

Sound distorts quite a bit at high levels. Bass heavy tracks make the speaker sound like it's blowing raspberries, sometimes it just sounds like it's farting….

By far my biggest problem with this speaker is how the volume significantly drops (halves?) when the battery drops low enough. What makes this all the more frustrating is that I'm only listening at low volumes. Because the speaker's volume control is independent to the device's bluetooth volume control, what I tend to do is turn the speaker to maximum and turn my phone right down to give desired low volume. This means that when the speaker decides to drop in volume, it is barely audible.

Still a good speaker and a worthy purchase if you want something to play in your office at lower volume.

Thank you for spelling "bass" correctly. The latest JB HiFi catalogue spells it "b-a-s-e". The former should really only be used for the fish, where the pronunciation matches the spelling of the word, but English being English, things are not quite so simple.

Bascially, words are just spelled the way they are spelled and you have to memorize them all. If you find one pronounced in some way analogous to how it is spelled, consider yourself lucky.

I too have this unit, it's not bad, and I encounter the same issue as you regarding the volume when the battery runs low.

Also worth noting that if you plug the unit in to power, it won't charge at the same time as you're using it. It's one or the other unfortunately (still works when plugged in, just won't charge).

    • I complained a lot about the X3 battery as it didn't last very long at high levels with the speaker reducing the volume to half on its own pretty quickly. Unfortunately it seems to be exactly the same with the X33. I tested the behaviour of the battery under controlled conditions this time and noticed that the speaker would play at maximum volume for about 1:35h, then it would again automatically reduce volume on its own and continue to play another 2:20 to finally shut down before even reaching 4:00 hours.

Same sound issue as before on the X33. Disappointing.

      Changeable 18650's would be nice

      • This speaker runs on two 18650s, albeit it not easily changeable as the rubber feet need to be taken off to get to the screws, to get to the battery pack.

The capacity of the battery 'pack' is rated as 2200mAh. Wonder if the pack can be 'upgraded'….

        • a previous google indicated someone has done exactly that.

  • Whats this like compared with the Logitech UE Boom Wireless Speaker (Blue) for $99 from this expired deal?

I still haven't picked mine up from dicksmith yet.

  • Is the x5 worth 99?

  • where did you get x5 for $99?
I want to buy it. please let me know which shop sell this price. thanks

    • I've bought the X5 for $170 (floor stock last unit JB) and wouldn't recommend it for use on battery. It's decent plugged in, but make sure you demo it unplugged before making a purchase decision. The sound is rich but the bass distortion is pretty frustrating for someone who enjoys bass-heavy music. The new generation is probably well worth it.

  • When it comes down to this price I might buy one. I have it's big brother the x5 and it is an amazing speaker for the money. Pity you can't connect them together under the same bluetooth connection.

    • Is the x5 worth 100? I can buy it new from a mate for that price.

      • Well I saw it for $99 but didn't buy it. Hopefully I didn't miss a bargain on the x5!

I have one of these. Fantastic sound!

  • Done. Thanks!

  • I've bought three of these over the last few months; pity they don't need eneloops :)

These are excellent speakers, sound quality perfectly acceptable.

Mobile phone running TuneIn + SRS-X3 beats any digital radio I've seen.

  • Has anyone got any comments on the performance of this as a speakerphone?

    • I've used it occasionally when a call comes through while listening. Quality of audio seemed good and the person on the other end wasn't complaining. So I think it's adequate, but perhaps it isn't best as a dedicated speakerphone?
