This is bloody cheap! Wished I waited a day, I got this for $200 yesterday V_V

    • buy this one, return with the previous receipt…

  • Great deal ! Almost pulled the trigger yesterday, not sure what held me back… But yay.

  • I pulled the trigger on the JB deal. I wasn't a considered purchase and I've since found out that the maps cannot be changed. I was going to cycle in the UK and France so I wouldn't be able to use this model and will have to go for the Garmin. Great value if you are just planning on riding in Australia though.

    • Have you tried getting a refund?

      • Thanks lyl

Just went online and cancelled my order. Received an email from JB confirming the cancellation. Good on 'em.

Now let's see if I can find some deals on the Garmin 520 or 810…..

        • How did you contact them to cancel it? I used the Contact Us option on the JB site about 30 mins or so ago and did not hear anything yet. Hoping they can cancel it so I can get this deal on here.

        • @MissMurd3r: It was on the email receipt. One of the options was to cancel the order. Select this and put in a reason. When I ordered online they reckoned they had stock, but when I phone to pick it up they told me they didn't. I just put this as the reason for me cancelling. Confirmation of my cancellation came back within 15 mins. Good luck.

        • @ticket65: I am sadly still waiting to hear if my order can be cancelled or not.

    • can anyone confirm if this is true? that it only accepts Australia maps? what about New Zealand?
would be nice to take overseas

  • Wonder how long this deal will last for.. too scared to pull the trigger in case JB refuse to cancel my order with them. It claims I can cancel as long as it is before 9 AM the next day, however I am sceptical.

  • Anyone know how long it takes to get the Harvey Norman $25 voucher?

  • All good…. Just got it. The impulsive impatience of the Ozbargainer strikes again!~

  • Fvck me, I paid more than double a year ago. And today I still would pay $360 if there wouldn't be a deal, cause it is such a good device.

  • Is it easy to sync with Strava? I have a Garmin 500 that I use for my normal group riding and MAMIL adventures but it would be nice to have something with Maps for commuting. This would be way cheaper than a Garmin 810

    • +1

It easily syncs with Strava using wifi so no need to plug usb cable into your pc.

      • Thanks, bought one for the bikepath cruiser!!! Thanks OP. looks like a great deal!

    • +1

"mamil adventures". lol. seriously though, good on you for getting out there on a bike :)

I just find the garmin sync with the iphone a bit of a hit and miss. quite often it'll say sync failed and you need to disconnect bluetooth or forget device, re-pair before getting them to sync.

  • Excellent price! Thanks OP

  • lyl, excellent find. Much appreciated!

  • Also, you may want to update your bike track maps with the latest ones from Magellan and Bicycling Australia here: http://www.magellangps.com.au/Support/Bike_Tracks

  • Thanks OP! Great price!

  • +1

so i just looked at some specs and reviews

    pros
    - big screen
    - wifi upload
    - openstreetmap

    cons
    - mount is slightly fiddly
    - dated UI
    - very big (vs garmin edge 510/520/810)
    - no glonass

Not sure if I want to impulse purchase. looks nice though. I have a garmin edge 510 that I could probably sell and get this cost neutral.

Tricky Dicky has the Magellan Cyclo 500 for $148, if you can add a battery or something to get the price over $149, use the code 'foryou30' to get another $30 off

    http://www.dicksmith.com.au/health-fitness/magellan-cyclo-50…

looks like the 505 has Bluetooth and Ant+ for HR monitor, cadence etc but the 500 doesn't.

    • +2

The only difference is that the 500 can only pair with Smart Bluetooth sensors, whereas the 505 can do both Smart BT as well as ANT+.

ANT+ was the previous standard, so if you have a lot of ANT+ stuff already then the 505 means you don't need to replace it. A lot of new sensors are Smart BT only, some sensors transmit on both, and some only ANT+. I think the advantage of using BT is that you can also pair the sensor directly to your smartphone and use an app if you want to - I don't know of any smartphones that can pair with ANT+.

    • Does purchasing from DSE entitle you to get the free HR monitor by redemption?

EDIT: I think I answered my own question - listed on their website as a retailer to buy from, so I assume so: http://www.magellangps.com.au/Buy_Cyclo

      • I cannot even see a mention of the HR Monitor on the 500 deal at DS? :\

        • +2

The bonus HRM applies to any 500 or 505 cyclo model sold regardless of where you purchase from.

        • @first in line:
Cool. I had wrongly assumed that it was only associated with the deals that show on them that it is included.

        • +2

It is not listed, but if you look on magellan's website they have the promo: http://www.magellangps.com.au/cyclohrmpromo.

It is "participating" sellers - but it doesn't list which those are. I called Magellan today and confirmed that Dick Smith was covered. Any one of the companies listed on my link above are.

So, free HRM! Going to return the one I got at HN for $172 - this is an absolute steal at $119 !

    • thanks, the $30- off coupon is back. the price seem to jump all around when trying to checkout, anyways threw in some phillips headphone for $8- and got them both for $125-
was't really in the market for one of these but at that price why not.
EDIT. it seems its back up to $189- must of got in just before the price hike

  • Anyone had trouble pairing this with their Android phone ?

My Samsung Galaxy Zoom is v4.4.2 and BT v4 but the CycloSmart app continually says it cannot detect my Cyclo device.

    • Cannot get mine to sync with WiFi yet let alone anything else.

      • Have you installed Cyclo Agent on your computer ?

        • Yeah. I sorted it out now thanks. Also, my phone paired correctly with it.

        • @MissMurd3r: Can you please check what Android version your phone has.

          Thanks

        • @scottb721: I am using a Moto G (2nd Gen) and Android 5.0.2.

        • @MissMurd3r:
Maybe my unit is faulty. I did notice that when I got it it didn't ask me any of the set up questions.

  • question, will i be able to use a bluetooth cadence sensor with the 500? trying to find answers online

  • Anyone got their heart rate monitors yet?

    • No. But I suspect they may take a while. Seems to be the way with things you claim via redemption.

  • Got the unit, not the HR monitor

  • Just tried the HN deal - opened an account and got the $25 Voucher but the voucher didn't work. Had an online chat to the sales staff who said the $25 voucher can't be used when an item is on special or if there is a "bonus" offered. So the price stays at $197.00. Still a fair price given you (eventually) get the HRM but disappointed that you can't use the $25.00 voucher.

    • Worked for me a couple of days ago!

    • +1

Are you sure you made a new HN account? The code will only work if you do so.

      • Yes, made a new HN account and received confirmation with the $25 voucher. Tried again this morning but it doesn't accept the code. Tried entering it manually and copy & pasting but no good. Have sent a msg to HN asking for an explanation.

        • I had the same problem. Eventually I talked to someone on the online chat helpdesk and they gave me a new code. Good luck

  • Bloody hell. Problem with uploading to Strava. This sucks

    • Any progress? I'm still considering buying this but am wary of buying a cycle gps that's not a garmin

  • +2

Just a heads up, 99cycles has the cyclo 505 with heart rate, speed and cadence for $219- using the code 20off200
Then 8% off with cashrewards makes it $201.
Gonna get a refund on the cyclo 500.

      update: 99bikes.com.au
      soz

    • +1

This is the real bargain IMO, and I scrambled to put in my order for the 99bikes deal 5 minutes ago…here's why…if you buy the Harvey Norman 505 naked (without the accessory pack), and redeem the bluetooth HRM for free from Magellan, that's $172. The price increase for shonofear's deal is $47- and for that, you get the Magellan speed/cadence sensor, plus a Magellan HRM packed in the box…and they're both ANT+ protocol.

An eBay price limited search reveals that $47 won't get you more than a bluetooth only, non-branded speed/cadence sensor (lowest $26 incl post). It certainly won't get you an ANT+ sensor. Or one that is guaranteed to work with the 505HC. For a recent model ANT+ sensor, it's $65, +/-$5. On that basis, 99bikes beats the Harvey Norman deal.

Also, I don't think one can even write off the value of the in-box HRM - according to the T/Cs on Magellan's website, the bonus bluetooth HRM is open to all 505 unit buyers - "…the Qualifying Device purchased by the Claimant is a Magellan Cyclo 500 or Magellan Cyclo 505" - which should mean that 505HC guys are eligible.

I feel like they might try to slide out of this one (I don't trust companies to honour stuff when the customer gets incredible value) - but a reasonable person would see this as including 505HC pack buyers in the redemption thingo. Will report back on this once I've received my 505HC.

      • yeah, 99bikes has the best deal. I pulled the trigger to early and got it from JB but I'm still happy with it.

      • Received mine yesterday. I agree it's probably the best value deal especially if eligible for the HR redemption (I forgot to consider that) as having a Bluetooth HR would come in handy for connecting to other devices i.e phone if maybe running. But if you own the Galaxy s5 it apparently has inbuilt Ant+ which would be handy.
The other option I still have is to keep the 500 ($120),redeem HR, buy the Wahoo blue SC $70- so then have more uses using the Bluetooth sensors totalling $190-

      • I just contacted Magellan RE heart rate monitor redemption with 505HC. Unfortunately not eligible

        • Why not ?

        • +1

          @scottb721:

It's already included with the 505HC

        • I didnt contacted them at all and just submitted the details (505HC). Today I received the HRM.

        • @matabuntu:

When did you claim the HRM? Still waiting for mine =/

        • @first in line: I did that on 18/09/2015.

        • @matabuntu:

Damn, I submitted mine on 7/9/15… no fair :(

        • @matabuntu: Hoping that means I get mine soon. I submitted my details the day before you. :)

As i posted in the JB Hifi thread:

Picked up the HR strap from the post office this morning. Opened it up to check the battery and the back cover half disintegrated.
Gonna contact support to see if they can send another cover as its not fully sealed now… bummer

    • +1

Mine has a broken bit out of the back of the cover. Blah.

      • Support asked me to send them some photos which I did, now they are going to review it supposedly.
Not after a whole new unit, just a new battery cover would be enough.

        • I contacted them as well, so will see what they say. All I want is a new cover for it, too.

        • Any luck? I got an entire new unit off them.

  • Woot! Got my heart rate monitor today

Feedback after using it for about two weeks:

    Positives:
Capacitive touch screen (rather than buttons or resistive touch screen)
    Large screen
    Maps and directions
    Large text
    Simple interface
    Trouble free wifi sync
    Accurate elevation

    Negatives:
Interface resembling dated iOS 6 look
    Very, very bulky
Map does not have a scale bar
Takes a long time to boot up (and has two mamil cyclists as the loading screen)
Too many confirmation dialogues - asks whether you really want to record, stop or turn off
Actual use battery life shorter compared to Garmin
Cannot pause ride for more than approximately an hour
Flimsy on stem mount (over bar mount is fine)
No lap function (either that or I still haven't found it yet)

Overall, it's average, but for the price I could deal with the shortfalls. I do like the larger screen compared to the Garmin 520 and has most of the features in Garmins costing 2-3x as much.

    • The map is a bitch to use, especially if you want to zoom in to look for streets and browse around.

  • So I was sent an entire new HRM due to the one they had sent me having a bit broken on the battery cover. Pretty pleased with that. Was only expecting a replacement part.
