sound good but I would be very cautious of joining Virgin. I joined with Virgin 1.5 years ago on prepaid and haven't been able to unlock my prepaid phone since then. You need to have spend $80 on in total credit.
However, they have a bug in system where it only stores your last recharge amount. So, unless I do a big recharge of $80 they don't believe that I have spent more than $80 so far in 1.5 years. Eventhough they can clearly see on their system that I have made calls worth more than $400 since I have had it. So, their customer service department are very incompetent and rude. So, you guys could be in for a ride it your get 2 prepaid phone. Have fun.

if its their policy to unlock the phone after you've used $80 in total on your phone, then you should be entitled to get your phone unlocked. Submit a TIO claim and watch how fast they'll unlock the phone for you!

    • Straight to the TIO you go.

They charge 30 bucks to review your request - if its a known issue then they will charge Virgin more and force them to unlock your phone.

      K

      • Actually, i might do that. TIO have an online complaint forum. Just to confirm that $30 fee will be charged to me for TIO or they charge it to Virgin Mobile?

        • they charge Virgin, not you.

          • @Davo1111: thanks a lot for the info. That $30 for Virgin is sufficient for me as start. I just submitted the online claim and lets see what happens.

  • Fair comments guys, but still its a great deal for backpackers and people on tight budgets.

  • Virgin use the Optus network though, don't they? So can these be used with Optus sim cards (or TPG, since they use Optus too?).

    • Although they use optus, the virgin broadband service does not provide a 3g connection! Another down point…

  • virgin use optus yes

  • i don't think this phone is 3g compatible anyway

  • something about this phone
it's a barebone mobile : voice calls, SMS, FM radio and that's it.
internal memory = 10mb and no memory card slot.

i guess you get what you paid for.

looks like a good deal got another virgin mobile outlet to match also if processed correctly as 2 separate numbers at register you can get 2 $25 wish gift cards as well by registering online at www.virginmobile.com.au/gift each number to a separate email address that ultimately brings price of two phones to $29 total

  • ok even better even though yes the voucher is 1 per person i have two phones apply for the voucher with my wife and i to home and work emails and EVEN BETTER each phone has $150 credit to be used in 30 days. Im going to see if i can get the date extended with a top-up

  • it can't use with optus sim
