G1W-CB 1080p Dashcam - $49 Shipped - eBay Group Deal - 600 Units Available

1650

Bought a number of these form a previous OzBargain deal direct form China for about $8 more than this (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/200052). Installed a couple in each of our cars, one front view & the other rear view. They works exceptionally well and I've had no problems with them at all. Props to Millzy for recommending the Samsung Memory Cards: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Samsung-32GB-EVO-UHS-I-Micro-SDHC… as they seem to suit these units perfectly and seem to address some of the issues others have using other brand/model cards.

Highly recommended, especially for this price. I'm going to get some more for Christmas presents :)

  • Is there any way to power up GPS and run this camera same time using single cigarette plug?

    • Had been looking at this Cigarette Lighter Double Adapter. (and 3m extension if I get this cam for rear) As long as it doesn't draw too much power it should work :L Both are $4.50ish on "one day only" online clearance days.

      • Thanks mate…I still see full price $16.98 on dick smith website. Is there any discount code you need?

      • There are also triple adaptors I see on ebay. How safe are those?

        • +1

They're all 'safe' for low-power stuff like this but they'll be messy. Either way they should be fused at 10 or 15A so if you do decide to connect three fridges and expect it to work the fuse will blow before your car bursts into flames :)

  • Great deal :)

This page / website has a good summary on the G1W unit, and all of its variants:

    https://dashcamtalk.com/g1w/

Also discusses fakes and what to look out for etc.

  • Question:

Would it be better to record in 1920x1080, 30 fps or 1280x720, 60 fps?

    • +1

Good question. I watched a Youtube video of a bloke who does tech reviews, who compared 720p@60fps vs 1080p@30fps. It was a different camera I believe, but, there was next to NO video / image quality difference between the two resolutions (e.g. freezed frames and compared, number plate legibility was identical etc.), therefore the 60fps at 720p gives you better overall video. I'll see if I can find the link tonight - was interesting.

      • Thanks!

I was thinking freezing frames would be better in 60FPS (obviously double the frames).

        Good to know…

        • +2

from a quick search, it seems the g1w does not do true 60fps, it's just 30fps with each frame doubled. 1080p is the way to go

      • +1

(real) 60fps on any camera would have a minimum shutter speed of 1/60, which means it won't perform as well at night as 30fps (1/30).

        • You could be correct. The Youtube video I mentioned above only spoke about and compared footage during the day.

  • Just having a quick read: Is there a point for having a rear dash cam in addition to a front given that legally you're protected if you get rear ended.

    • +1

still can't hurt to have 100% proof that they were driving up your ass or whatever

    • +4

Yes, Hit & Runs! This is one of the biggest reasons I have my cams. If you can't supply your insurance company rego details of the other car then it's very difficult and sometimes impossible to make a claim. If the car has been stolen then capturing as much detail as possible is still better than nothing and will hopefully get sorted with a Police investigation. Even if the car has no plates it's still good to get as much info as possible but yeah your insurers will try to get out of giving you money any way they can. I'm speaking from an extremely poor experience with AAMI here which resulted in taking all our business elsewhere. Useless… but not that they care of course.

      • Video evidence of tail gating. Makes it much easier to report - number plate should be fully legible.

Don't forget ShopAndMint, CashRewards or Pink.org.au cashbacks too!

  • I've got the tronsmart fast charger in my cig lighter socket. Would prefer to use that if I can. Will that work with this if I just get a long usb cable?

    • +1

      Yes

  • Hey guys I absolutely know nothing about cars but I wanna get two for my mum's car. One for the front and one for the back. The front bit can be lowered up by the cigarette lighter but how do you supply the power on the one on the back?

    • Read through the previous comments ;)

    Am I missing something?

Gearbest through the link in the previous deal (which is marked as expired) now has this model priced at $40.99 delivered.
    http://www.gearbest.com/car-dvr/pp_196898.html

    Is that USD perhaps?

EDIT: yes USD. Shows as $57.78 when change currency to AUD.

    • +1

The old US vs AUD currency confusion eh? Happens to the best of us :)

      • +2

Why can't they get their own name for money? 40 US freedoms and 99 patriots.

  • bought one, thx OP

  • +1

Can this be powered by a usb cable instead of the cigarette lighter cable?

    • +2

Yep, any old 5V supply should do the trick. They only consume about 500mA so most devices should be capable of supplying that however be careful here as I found if you connect these cameras to anything with a hint of intelligence they'll automatically switch over to a 'webcam' mode which will be painful to continually reset each time. If you're thinking of using your head unit to power the camera then this may be an issue… unless you modify the USB cable to 'dumb it down' by just leaving the red & black wires intact.

      • +1

I just want to use the dual usb car charger that I already have to plug in both this and a mobile at the same time. It sounds like I shouldn't have a problem. Thanks.

        • +1

          Oh yeah, that'll be A-OK!

  • Thanks. Bought one to try as a rear cam.

  • arghh, its good to be missed out, i already had 4, the urge to buy it, oh jeez, but now i am so relieve :)

  • impulse bought one… wonder how many crazy drivers I can catch on my daily work commute now

  • ahhh missed out.. anyone know a deal similar to this?

    • That's the original variant that runs on lithium batteries.

  • If you missed out shopping square doing it for 37

    • +1

Possibly but just be sure they're the exact same model as this. There are dozens of different versions & rip-offs and this probably is too but at least these are known to work the best out of the lot. Also the version with the chrome lens can usually be had for a few bucks less but many prefer the black on black of this model.

  • +8

    Just took some pics…

    Front - http://files.ozbargain.com.au/upload/67715/33520/1._front.jp…
    Front - http://files.ozbargain.com.au/upload/67715/33521/2._front.jp…
    Rear - http://files.ozbargain.com.au/upload/67715/33522/3._rear.jpg

Note the stick-on mounts are fine on the printed black dots on the windscreen so you can usually mount the cameras a lot higher than you can with the suction cup mount. Also note the grey plastic push-in plug securing the roof lining in the background of the last pic. There was one of these smack bang in the middle too so I simply removed it and found a large screw that gently bit into the hole it came out of then just removed the sticky stuff on another stick-on mount, drilled a hole in its base then screwed it into position, easy! Of course each different brand/model/style/age of car will have its own annoying challenges but see what you can do and post some pics for others to see. All the mounting & cabling work I've done is very easily reversible if need be and I've even kept the grey plug safe as it will just push back into place if I ever decide to remove the camera. Would take about 3 minutes and I'd have the car back to 100% original.

    • Thanks for all of the effort mate, very appreciated. I only ended up getting one, by the time I thought it would be a good idea to have one in the rear of the car as well they had sold. I'll just wait until they go on special next time!

      • No problem. At least with one you could easily feed the supplied cable up to the camera through the Dash, A-Pillar & Roof Lining and simply plug it into your Cigarette Lighter socket without the need the cut anything or build up custom Power Supplies etc. The supplied cable is a very decent length and should be ample to do this in most cars, even large ones but if you're like me then you'll want to make it all as hidden as possible ;)

        • +1

I actually use the cigarette lighter to charge phones etc. all the time (wife and kids more than me) so hard wiring is the best way to go. Plus I have a severe case of OCD when it comes to wires etc so I'll be going behind the dash, up the Apillar etc. So like you it will be hidden as much as possible!

I'm lucky for the rear, I have a Lancer wagon with a 12v socket in the boot that I can tap into if I get one. I've already ordered some of the mounts and 5v dc power thingys you recommended so as soon as these come up on special again I'll get another for the rear.

          Cheers again!

Thanks OP, I ordered at 10h10 and received a "Shipped " notification at 19h10. Service from this crowd seems to be good.

  • Mine says "Postage Carrier : China Post" ! I thought the stock was in AU.

  • Thanks OP for deal! Bought it earlier today when there was stock. First time buyer of dashcam and I have a question on the type of memory card is acceptable for the dashcam. I have noticed that OP recommended the Samsung 32GB EVO. I have a spare Samsung 64GB PRO from a previous Ozbargain deal - would that be just as good, if not better for the dashcam?

    • Waaaay overkill. But it'll work!
You should use it in a real camera and just get a cheap EVO for the dashcam though.

I have mine running off the remote wire from my stereo. Just in case no one has mentioned that one as of yet. Aftermarket stereo and its the blue wire in most cases.

    • +1

Nice idea, thanks for the input!

    • Hmm, thats a good idea. Do aftermarket stereos trigger voltage vary? I'm just about to put an Alpine unit into my car, so this woudl be the best time to wire up the unit. I assume you just spliced into the remove trigger wire with the power lead?

      • +1

The remote wire is 12v constant. No variation. Splice into the remote wire and ground out the unit to any bolt on the car as your whole vehicle is the ground. You can get a cig lighter adapter to alligator clips for cheap which works easiest. I wired mine into my amp though and it took two mins.

I had to do it this way because my cig lighter is always on even if the ignition is off. VW thing.

        • Oh really? All VWs??

        • @SteveAndBelle: My old VL had the same thing, I don't think it was standard the guy I brought it from bypassed the ignition side so it was always on. I don't know why, I found a few weird things about the car though….

        • Thanks mate, this sounds like the way I will go. Did you modify the power cable that came with the unit? And did you use the positive lead of this cable to the 12v and the negative to ground? I have a very basic understaing of this stuff, just enough to get me into trouble… :)

        • @bassmaniac69: Yes, the entire car chassis and body is designed to be 'Ground' and in most cases that's 'Negative'. however some manufacturers/models (mostly vintage stuff these days) have 'Positive' Ground so whenever working on a different car it's best to use a Multimeter to check this first to avoid killing stuff.

Pretty sure Third_Gear used an Alligator Clip to Cigarette Lighter adaptor (like this: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Car-Battery-Terminal-Clip-on-Ciga…) so he simply clipped the Red to the Head Unit Remote Output wire (Blue) and clipped the Black to something grounded (metal bracket in dish, screw/bolt head etc.) then simply plugged the supplied Power Supply into that. Easy… but still a very good idea to wrap up the Red clip with some tape in case it touches something metal and shorts out.

        • @SteveAndBelle: yup a clip similar to that. I just cut the clips off though and connected directly to my amp.

FYI, G1W NT96650/AR0330 model variant price check for today (inc. suppliers with very limited stock)…

    G1W = $37.98 (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/HOT-Full-HD-1080P-G1W-2-7-LCD-Car…)
    G1W-C = $56.68 (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Capacitor-G1W-Car-Dash-Camera-DVR…)
    G1W-B = $73.99 (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Black-G1W-B-Stealth-Vision-FullHD…)
    G1W-CB = $74.90 (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Blueskysea-G1W-CB-Capacitor-Steal…)

To all who nabbed one in this deal yesterday, you did quite well saving over $25 per unit compared with todays prices. Of course these prices will continually change and probably already have as I'm typing this but the above does indicate the current huge differences in price between the different variants from the standard 'battery' model through to the 'black & capacitor' model. Crazy when you look at the huge difference in todays price between the standard battery model and the 'black' battery model though, it's basically twice the price just to get the black lens ring!

To those who missed out don't despair, these frequently go on sale so all you have to do is keep your eyes peeled and if you find a good deal then be sure to post it up here for your OzBargain comrades to enjoy :)

    • Hi there, on your second link are you sure that it is the genuine version, the title only state G1W but then includes the word capacitor and at the end mirror is spelt wrongly and it says BA "Mirro Mount BA".

If you look at specs it completely ommits what battery it is using/ if it uses a capacitor.

Just wanted to know if anyone has bought from this seller before and whether it truly is genuine.

      Thanks

WoW super fast shipping received mine this morning, been playing around with it and the quality is bloody awesome

    • Whoa! Super fast indeed! I hope we'll all get ours over the next day or two in that case.

      • Mine is at Chullora, hopefully delivered tomorrow:

  • Got the tracking number but I tried to track it on a few sites and have no luck :|

    • +1

Try your number on https://track.aftership.com/ and select "Australia Post"

      • Silly me. Why didnt I think of aus post

  • +1

Received mine today as well. Very fast shipping!

  • Received the first two of mine today. All looks good except one of the units suction cup mounts has a screw-on fitting instead of the slide/clip-on and the screw-on just wont work with these cameras. The other camera came with the normal slide/clip-on suction cup mount so I assume it's an anomaly but please check yours and report back here if you also find a screw-on version. This isn't a big problems for me as I have spare suction cup mounts from my previous units but it'll be painful for first time buyers of these as they're basically unusable without the correct mount! Fingers crossed my other eight units are all A-OK and supplied with the correct mounts.

    • Mine appears to be a clip in

    • +1

You are not the only one. I received mine today, and the suction cup is a screw-on as well. So, we've been screwed :).

Can not use the cam without the correct mount. I emailed the seller and I am waiting to see what he/she can do about it.

      • Ah no! Not just a one-off then. Sorry to hear that but please keep us updated with your enquiry.

Worst case scenario and of course we really shouldn't have to resort to doing this but if they don't come to the party the cheapest way of solving this problem is to buy one of these mirror mounts for $2.84 delivered: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/380965039364?ru=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.… You could either use the entire mount as is and attach it to your mirror arm or simply remove the slide plate mount section from the ball joint and transfer it over to the suction cup mount. This may also be a good solution for anyone who received a screw mount but still not sure which the best mounting method is for their car as it introduces another option. Of course yet another solution/option is to buy the stick-on mount as mentioned previously but it's a lot more expensive: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/3M-Adhesive-Mount-Holder-Bracket-… Fingers crossed they help us out though!

        • CORRECTION The above turns out NOT to be a good solution for anyone with a screw mount. I just tried it with one of my spare mirror mounts and the ball joint sections aren't swappable! Please disregard the above 'worst-case' advice and seek direct assistance from the seller (stockinau). Sorry for the confusion.

    • hiya…

how many consignment/tracking number did u get? I just received one package (1 boxed camera) today. Post person said there was only one item for me. I've checked the consignment number since and it says delivered. I ordered 4 cams. Parcel says 1 of 1 but at the bottom it said G1W-CBx4 A1407Blackx4

Were your camera boxed and individually packed and sent?

      ta..

      • I've been getting them in dribs & drabs. I ordered 10 in total, four myself, four through a mate and another two through another mate. The order of two arrived on Friday, one with the screw mounting. I received four more this morning, all packaged together and all with the correct mount but I also received a single unit by itself, again with the correct mount but strange that it arrived by itself. I wonder where the other three are? Not too bothered as I understand these things can come from warehouses all over the place so I'll give them another week before I start asking questions. I'm in no rush for them as they're all Christmas presents BUT I'll definitely be demanding a proper mount gets sent out for any that were supplied with the screw version.

        • And 10 units, lol you will have every angle of your car covered :)

    • +1

I received mine yesterday, it came with the correct slide mount. I do have some of the other mounts you recommended coming but for the meantime this will do. I mounted it up last night and gave it a run this morning, it all works well. Once again, thanks for the post OP.

      • +1

Good to hear all is well :)

  • Received mine also!

  • Received mine this morning but it came with the damned screw on mounting. What should we do with that? (Besides raise a PayPal dispute).

    • I highly recommend contacting stockinau via ebay messaging first and asking what they can do to assist. If they wont help after a reasonable amount of time then you can open a dispute… but hey, that's just me!

      • :) yeah of course. Just really annoying that you can't even use the thing after waiting around the mailbox for a week. Feels like christmas morning without batteries…

        • Don't worry, I'll be contacting them too but only after I receive the rest of the ones I ordered and I'll mention this deal and send them a link so they have a better understanding of the packing failure rate.
