G1W-CB "Black Bezel" Dash Cam AUD$57.72 Delivered @ Gearbest

244
G1WCB

This is an updated version of the G1W-C which is one of the most popular Dash Cams out there.

The G1W-CB is exactly the same as the G1W-C only the bezel comes in black instead of the silver ring which makes it more stealthy and not obvious. Many people go to the trouble of painting their G1W-C to hide the crappy silver ring so this updated model is a no brainer.
This model still comes with a capacitor.

Awesome dash cam, highly recommended.

Thank you! A price difference of $14 just for the black bezel, hhhmmm. The normal G1W-C is priced @ $43.99 http://www.gearbest.com/car-dvr/pp_67201.html - Just use a black pen or marker to make the bezel black on the normal G1W-C :P

    • +1

It's actually US$1 cheaper with above code. You have AUD and USD mixed up.
      G1W-C US$42.99, AU$56.41

    • No mate, that's USD.

    • 43.99 USD though

      • You guys are right. Apologies :)

  • +1

Still waiting on my camera from the last deal to come…

    • +1

Ditto… when it does though I'll just get a black permanent marker to turn mine into this model ;)

    • I cancelled my G1W-C order from the last deal after waiting 2 weeks for stock to come in. I re ordered and received the G1W-CB today, love it.

    • As am I. Almost tempted to Neg GearBest deals for "Shipping time exceeding expected wait", but as others have got prompt delivery from GearBest then a deal is a deal. It's just unfortunate that delivery is a crapshoot.1

      1. crapshoot: something that could produce a good or bad result. From the dice game craps

  • Anyone know the name of the "mount" or a link for it?

Been looking around for a another suction cup type mount so that I can just leave the mounts inside the car and pop in the dashcam on the car that's being driven for the day, the mirror mounts won't fit on my family's cars.

  • $58.93 AUD for me

    • That's weird. I tried it again still coming up with 57.72 with the discount applied.

      • I got ripped off!

  • Not sure how it compares as a deal, but fixing up the two issues with previous versions sounds like a good move

  • Genuine product from gearbest? I got the normal capacitor with silver from ebay … I hear there are plenty of fakes out there

    • +1

      Gearbest sell genuine G1W's

  • +1

Thanks OP, just bought five. Using two per car as front & rear cams plus I got an extra for a friend.

Righto, next thing to buy… MicroSD cards for all of them. Which ones do G1W users recommend?

    • +3

Hey mate, go for the Samsung Evo 32GB $16.95 This is the one I got.

      http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Samsung-32GB-EVO-UHS-I-Micro-SDHC…

Some class 10 cards won't work or will cause problems. The Samsung Evo works perfect though.

      • 32Gb eh? What's the realistic recording time for 32Gb at the highest res etc? Surely you'd only need 8 or 16Gb to capture the last 5-10 minutes, no? I genuinely don't know so recommend away!

        • +1

I just figured for the price 32GB was the way to go for myself.

On full 1080P 3 min clips are about 280MB. I'm awful at math but I think it equates to 5 hrs approx

        • @millzy: Ah right, so it records in 3 minute bursts, continuing to make new 3 minute files until it fills up the card then it goes back and overwrites the oldest? That makes sense. Yeah, a 32Gb card is probably the best way to go then.

        • +1

          @SteveAndBelle:

Exactly mate, you can increase or decrease the loop time too.

        • +1

@millzy: Cheers mate, bought five 32Gb Sammy cards to go with the cams. Noice!

      • +2

Same price for 32Gb Evo at PC Byte. Most here (myself included) don't have much faith in Shopping Square

        http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Samsung-32GB-Evo-Micro-SD-48MB-s-…

    • Used an Aldi 32GB with no problems.

    • How do you power the rear?

      • +1

I'll be running a dedicated regulated 5V power feed to both units using a simple Chinese DC-DC module. It means a heap of extra work pulling carpets etc. but I've done that hundreds of times installing car stereos so no biggie. I hate adaptors and cables all over my dash so I'll be running wiring up into the lining to get the front camera as neat as possible so while I'm at it I'll run a feed for the rear cam too. End result should be a close to fully integrated system you wont even know is there… hopefully ;)

        • -3

I eat a lot of eggs.

  • For some reason I can't change the day/month/ portion of the date in the setup menu in the one I bought last year, it skips straight to year. Can the firmware be updated in these things?

    • +1
      • +1

Hey Millzy. Did you or would you recommend updating the firmware straight out of the box? I've been burnt either way with similar products before so best to check other users experiences first :)

        • +1

          Hi Mate,

I didn't modify firmware and would not recommend unless you have issues. I think this version comes with the latest firmware, so far it has been rock solid, no issues at all.

I just checked. Firmware: W2015.0316.11, seems to be the newest.

          Edit:
Did some research and found a few owners have an issue with the new firmware, last file to save corruption issue, so he actually downgraded to Version: 2014.0813.11 and it fixed the problem.

I have not had that issue at all, have done a bunch of tests with the Evo 32GB, all good. I'll monitor it though, see if it pops up.

    • +1

I found I had to change the date format to change the day/month then change back again.

  • +4

    I do not recommend Gearbest.

I fell victim to the last offer they had - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/199041

I currently have an open PayPal dispute with them, paid extra for the expedited shipping option and they've sent it the slowest method.

Voting negative in light of this.

    • +1

you said: "Might take these guys to ACCC"…..

as they can't provide you tracking aye?

      • Yes.

  • Does this camera require to be plugged in at all times?
I am looking for a dash cam that I can plugin, let it charge and then once it's full I can unplug it while still using it so I don't have a cord hanging down.
Also are most cams similar how they work, as in it just records 5 minute files and then once the camera is full it overwrites the oldest file?
    Thanks

    • +2

Yes, needs to be plugged in, it has no battery.

Try this model, same family but with a battery:
      G1WH
      http://www.gearbest.com/car-dvr/pp_16927.html

Yes, you can usually set the loop to 3,5,10 mins etc and once the SD card is full it will wipe the oldest file. There is normally a lock file feature where you can lock a file and it will never overwrite.

      • Just read yours after commenting below. You are correct about the C and H models.
Don't know why people commented the C version (capacitor) is better than the H version (battery). Also more expensive. As C does not work unless plug in, I find hard to edit and use any functions because the camera is recording (with motion detection on) as soon as it plugs in.

        • +1

I got the capacitor version .. the main reason was from what I read, there were claims that the batteries can overheat and explode (/cause fire) when its left in the sun and becomes too hot. This may not be applicable to where you are, but I didnt want to risk that if my car was sitting in the hot summer sun with all the windows closed.

The other thing is, batteries do wear out over time .. so there will (eventually) come to a point where the battery doesn't last very long anyway. Some people wanted to have a battery in the case of a bad accident where electricity is cut off you would lose power to your dashcam with a capacitor. Perhaps the last few seconds of a crash might also be helpful.

But each to their own .

      • +2

        Thanks millzy.
I will also buy the 32gb evo you suggested above.

It's great that you are providing extra support for everyone that has been asking questions.
Wish I could give extra +1's for the effort you are putting in.
        Thank you.

        • +1

Thanks dude, appreciate it. Gearbest should have me on their pay role :D

        • +1

You haven't even given one +.

        • @luke73:
Haha that is my bad right there.
          Thanks for pointing that out.

  • What kind of USB does this use? Gonna order an extra long cable to go with my just-ordered dash cam (thanks op!)

    • +1

Mini USB mate. It comes with a very long car power cable already. Mounted mine yesterday. Went behind the lining of top of the windscreen, under the drivers A pillar, under the dash, under the handbrake console and finally to a rear charge point. Took me less than 5 mins, cant see the cable anywhere.

  • Does anyone have a G1W from Gearbest can provide some feedback?
Not sure if it is just bad luck or bought lemons.
Bought 2 initially, one good and one kept having video frozen. Got return credit and added some money to buy a more expensive model like G1W-C.
With this capacitor version, the camera will switch off within few seconds as soon as power is cut off. Not sure if this should be the case. That means cannot use camera unless plug in power. Also, after using for less than a year, the cameras keep frozen despite using expensive microSD cards.

    • +1

The capacitor version doesn't have a battery, so yes it will switch off as soon as power is cut off.
I've been told to use cheap microSD cards … some cheapo ones work better than some expensive ones . But if you've found a card that works, I would think it should keep working - I havent expreienced any freezing on mine, albeit I've only had mine for about 9 or so months so far.

      Perhaps its a firmware issue?

  • Does not mean this must happen to you. Seems like few had same issues with the model bought earlier. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/177558.

Still waiting for the last order. Can't recommend Gearbest

    • ordered an item from them, they sent a used item with scratches.
included in my order was a memory card, which had images. looked liked the quarters of their staff

edit. sent them an email and still waiting for reply

      • +1

Gearbest have a Rep account on here, send them a PM. They have responded to me every time and I have found I get better service through here than through the ticket system.

      • thanks for that millzy!

I got this from this retailer last time it came up - decent camera, but be warned that it comes in very weird packaging which bears no reference to "G1W" or anything similar. The whole thing looks like it fell off the back of a truck in Singapore. The manual is in very basic English and there is a suspicious lack of information about the brand or manufacturer.

On the plus side the camera works very well so far both in the daytime and at night, so I'm not too fussed.

    • +1

first time buying something from China? :-P

    • mine is in an orange colour papar box, no reference to G1W at all!
Am I getting the genuine stuff? the manual shows a GPS input, while mine hasn't got one at all!

      • Same exact thing I got - the good news is mine's been working really well since it arrived. No idea if it's legit, though.

  • Bought from previous deal. Waited one month. Camera turned up DOA.

  • Just sent an email to check on my order and guess what:

About your order, I have checked for you, we are very sorry to inform you that the item is not in stock at the moment. we expect to receive the goods in 7 to 15 days.
we have 3 options to offer:

    1. We kindly ask you to wait. Once we receive the stock from the vendor, we will ship your package immediately.
    2. Change the item, please browse our website to find a similar item here http://www.gearbest.com/ and send us the link(url) of the item you would like instead by replying to this message.
    3. Cancel the item and we will refund you on you wallet future purchase.

we will do our best to help you. Thank you for your patience and kind support.

    • Sucks, I got the same thing with the G1W-C. Was waiting 2 weeks for it to ship then I changed my order to this version and it shipped within 2 days.

All I can say is, it's worth it. The cam is amazing, 0 issues so far, set and forget.

  • Great that you're happy and got a good unit. Looks like I'm stuck for a GearBest long wait and then never ever again!

  • Merged from Dash Cam G1W-CB $59.03 AUD Delivered ($54.40 after Cash Back) @ GearBest (Plus More Dash Cams Listed below)

Dash Cam is listed at $44.99 USD / 59.03 AUD, then by using CashRewards 8% cashback it comes down to $54.40 AUD.

The G1W-CB is easily the best of the G1W series of cams. And is generally considered the best bang-for-buck camera on the market today. More information on model variants here

There are also other dash cams on sale (I will list each in $AUD including 8% discount)

For anyone interested in the G90 / GS98C cams and wondering what the difference is. I couldn't find review on the still very new GS98C but on paper it appears to be a minor upgrade over the G90. Wider lens (177 degrees vs 170), official 64GB MicroSDXC support, the G90 should also take 64GB but lacks official support. And using that logic, the GS98C may even handle 128GB. Both are 1296P/30 but also handle 1080P/60 which IMHO is the next step up, I think 1296P/30 is a bit of a gimmick.

    • -5

As truly amazing as these cameras are, you still can't see licence plates clearly unless the car is directly in front. I'll wait until the technology gets better,

      • I'm no expert on dash cams, in fact I've only really been researching their features recently as I'm in the market for 2 myself. While I generally agree with your statement, I've found some of the wider lens cams are getting better at this. I've seen YouTube videos where plates are readable in lanes all around the driver, not just in front. I suppose 1080p60 goes further to help this.

      • Not every accident (or incident) need to identify another car's licence plate. Even if you have a dash cam now that can see one car's licence plate on the next lane clearly, what happen if another car hit you on your side? You still cannot see that car on the side at all, unless you have a dash cam system that covers you 360-degree surrounding view. So dash cams today are still very useful for what they can do.

        • +4

I'd say hit-and-runs are very rare. When else do you want to read plates?
What happens in reality, someone hits you, says sorry, exchange details, but they later claim it was your fault.

You don't even need to see the other car in the video. e.g. you start reversing in a car park, see another car, stop, then they back into you.
The video will make it clear who hit whom, even though they are not in frame. You keep your no-claim discount.

    • +1

Are those prices GearBest's special sale prices or just normal store prices?

      • +1

I did some OzBargain searching before I posted, the G1W-CB has been cheaper but also a few bucks more during past deals so I thought this qualified as a deal.

Others such as the A118 is about $16 cheaper than it was a few days ago as noted in a [thread I posted] recently(https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/200867)

It was $57.72 here(my post from about a bit over week ago) with an extra 5.6% off with cash rewards.

and it has not been a few bucks more through any ozbargain deals previously. My deal was the first ever featuring the G1W-CB "Black Bezel"

    • -1

For reference, here is the previous deal : https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/195799

      • Yes, while the G1W-C (in that deal) and the G1W-CB (in this deal) are technically the same camera, the difference is:

The G1W-CB is identical to the G1W-C, except that the silver ring around the lens has been replaced by a black one, similar to the G1WH. Thus it is a stealthier version of the G1W-C.

Aesthetic only, but apparently many "C" owners were painting their black to not look so obvious. Very minor point but they made a new model based on it.

    • Is this original made by Blackbox? Unboxing shows generic branded box.

    • With gearbest, the default currency is USD. if you select AUD, is the price listed the price you pay or is there a conversion fee if you pay by paypal.

      • I have no experience with Gearbest, though I found a post based on a previous price indicating the latter :(

$57.72 with coupon G1WCB (though Paypal conversion is quoting me $59.45 AUD)

Someone else might like to confirm though.

        • Thnks. But is that cause they've selected to pay with USD on Gearbest then have paypal convert, or they've selected AUD from the currency selection on Gearbest and still get hit with a conversion fee?

          • @ironworthy: Well $57 USD would be over $75 AUD so it's not that. It would appear the hit takes place even with AUD selected, with 100's of customers on OB hopefully someone will clarify.

          • @ironworthy: Yep that's my quote I think. Was comparing direct convert via xe.com vs PayPal conversion. At the time I didn't realise I could get gearbest to show aud.

Easy to test without purchasing though

          • @ironworthy: @Spackbace:

Oh yes it was you. I didn't want to confuse people sending to that forum thread which kinda lies unfinished anyway.

    • +1

Do yourself a favour and find a more straightforward supplier. I ordered last deal and even though "stock available" it hasn't even posted yet! When emailed they said we can give you a credit (not refund) or just wait. I could have bought from someone else for a few bucks more and have it sent by now.

      • Couldn't agree more. Ordered a G1W-C from them on 30/5/15 and it wasn't shipped until 22/6/15 - that's fricking 23 Days just to get it shipped. And of course, naturally, being GearBest, I am still waiting for it to arrive.

        • This is quite normal for all of these online gadget retailers from China, with free shipping you have to be prepared to give them at least one month to deliver the goods to you.

    • +1

gearbest customer service is not the best according to https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/201073

  • Just got mine today and its DOA :/

  • +1

Just received my five, quickly connected each to USB and they all seem to work perfectly… at least at this stage ;)

  • received yesterday, so 2 weeks is pretty quick from China.
I ordered a mirror mount, where do you guy put this one? since it's capacitor, you need power full time, mount on windscreen isn't good with cable dangling affect vision.

  • this may be a good price, but i will not deal with these (profanity) again! they sent me a faulty dash cam and asked me for another $20 to send a new one. so i paid, and they never sent!

OP, please do not take it personal. the neg is just a warning to other fellow ozbargainers.

  • Bought this camera from the last deal. It records great quality clips. Could watch from my friends laptop. However the laptop I have with Windows 8.1 can't play the MOV file format this cam records. I downloaded and installed few codecs following the forums but still no luck in playing the clips in MOV format. Other than that issue with my OS version this is a good camera and I can recommend it.

    • Try VLC (video player) or a nice codec pack like CCCP.

      • I tried different versions of VLC player including latest. Tried installing K-Lite Codec pack full version. Tried Quick time player, etc. Still no luck. This is a new Dell i7 laptop on Windows8.1. I read in some forums that this is due to the OS and tried most things suggested but nothing works.

        • do you have "time-lapse" setting on?

        • @davidl2: On the camera yes. It is recording 10 minutes long clips.
The issue is nothing to do with camera. I could watch the videos on a different computer and they were good. I just can't watch them on my new laptop :(

  • just to follow up, I bought another one within 5 minutes, I received one 3 days ago but got an email yesterday says my other order just sent! it's so random in shipping time, no wonder others complain
it works well, haven't tried to play the clips yet.
Do you guys receive this in a organge colour papar box with no model number on the packaging nor in the manual?

    • Yeah, same packaging. They are definitely legit. Really happy with mine.

  • -1

just do not bother with Gearbest. They claim that they post the product and after 48 days it has never arrived. Instead of doing the right thing and issue the refund, they keep sending message to "contaact your locaal post office".

    • I'm really sorry about your situ.
I ordered two 5 mins apart on 24/06/2015. I got one today, 12 days after the first one!
One thing for sure, they do have tracking number on each package. As it's free shipping there's no signature required, but they can track the parcel. It's worthwhile to check with the post office, see when and where it got delivered.
the unfortunate lost parcel is a nightmare for sellers and buyers. but you can't say post office should take responsibility.

  • 32GB really fills up fast when recording at 1080p@30 FPS, but I've lowered it now. Is it possible to get the loop recording to be more than 5 minutes?

  • I bought 2 of these cameras. And am eager to try memory cards >32GB despite specs saying 32GB MAX.

    See https://dashcamtalk.com/g1w/ as it Mentions:
"One of our members has successfully formatted a Samsung Micro SDXC Pro 64GB Class 10 Card with the G1W. You will need to use the Guiformat tool to format the card in FAT32." but that is the GW1.

Interested to see if anyone has tried it with the G1W-CB ???

Also what optimal settings are best? i.e 1080p, loop setting duration (3 or 5mins), motion detect? etc

  • Hi I tried the code but says it's expired?
