Thanks to sparkyglo's comment.

iPad Air 16GB Silver is only $399 when you spend $100 in a single transaction in store. There's no exclusions noted, so buy some Big W gift cards or something. However, customers haven't had success with this option (see comments). Limit of 1 per customer.

Price will also be dropped to $429 if you don't spend the $100.

Thanks OzSikhs for reminding me about CashRewards's 5% discount on Woolies eGift Cards, usable at Big W. Total price would be $379.05.

Currently $569. Stock levels looks great for all capitals.

    Not bad, Apple sells it for $569 still.

    A decent tablet for $400 although it is two years old now.

    • I've got one. They're great.

    Does the iPad counted as part of $100 spend?

    • +1

      Obviously not

    • NO…

    • +1

      How about iPad + $100 gift card?

      • Lmao you ask the most rhetorical questions……

  • +2

    16GB is a bit on the low side though :(

    • +3

      Yes, my 16Gb has some apps on it and there isn't enough room for the update.

      • +1

        Bummer. Update is just over 1GB.

        • +1

          Mine still has 7. that was the big one to 8.

        • +1

          @ricodbn:

          Oh. That was about 3GB I think.

    • Depends on your usage. 16GB is more than adequate for me. I rarely use it for videos and don't use it for music.

  • +2

    I hated my ipad air. 1gb of ram is inadequate. The ipad air 2 is much better despite the only main difference being an increase in ram.

    • When do you notice the difference? Browsing with multiple tabs? Gaming?

    • +1

      Same question from me. I see plenty of haters put up this criticism, but i don't understand why in a mono tasking device needs lots of ram?

      I have 32GB or RAM in my iMac as i work with a lot of large files (Video, photos and large indesign works) and i find i need it. Never once on an iPad have i thought "i wish i had more ram"

      • iOS9 introduces multi-tasking. It's going to be a PITA on the older iOS devices. Hence why there is no split view on < iPad Air 2.

        • Slide Over is kinda good though.

      • I had the original iPad and it basically became unusable due to lack of memory with the later iOS upgrades (which you couldn't downgrade to after Apple stopped signing earlier iOS releases). Upgraded to the first edition Apple Mini. It routinely can't handle multiple tabs open in Chrome.

        I definitely wish it had more RAM.

    Just a note for newbies and parents, so you do not get disappointed:

    Current model is iPad Air 2, which also has touch ID, better screen, slightly thinner and lighter, A8 processor.

    refer to https://www.apple.com.au/ipad/compare/ for full comparison.

      Other than few gimmics like TouchID, 1.4 mm thin, 32 gms weight (inside case don't matter), I find it same. Personally I don't find these gimmics worth paying $140 extra for basic use like emails , surfing, chat/Skype etc.
      May be for gamers it makes big difference.

      • +2

        Touch ID is not a gimmick!

        Do you have any iDevices with Touch ID on them? If you do, I can't see how you would find this feature a gimmick. It's very convenient and given the number of times I unlock my iPad/iPhone, use Touch ID in place of a password etc, it is worth more than the $140 premium.

        • I agree, touch ID really works well.

        • I concur with changa, Touch ID is so damn useful in everything you do especially dealing with password related tasks like login to sites and even bank account (if bank apps supported)

        • +1

          I have used TouchId on iPhone 5s. For me it is not worth $140 on iPad. . I can live without it. Plus iPad wifi is mostly going to stay at home, so no need of time urgency in typing 4 letters.

    • A8X processor, not A8 (A8 is for iPhone 6/6+ and iPad Mini 4), performs better than A8.
      Also more RAM, which would be better for multitasking that Apple is introducing to their iPad line.

      I personally think the difference between iPad Air and Air 2 would be more observable later since the hardware spec difference between Air 2 and Air 1 is fairly large for an iPad line.

    Save another $20 by paying with Discounted gift cards (5% off) from Cashrewards.

    • Thanks. Added to OP.

    • Will this work??

      • Buy $500 of gift cards from Cashrewards (spend $475)
      • Purchase $100 gift card + iPad Air using Cashrewards gift cards
      • Keep $100 gift for later, buy essentials like fuel, groceries, eneloops.
      • +2

        You may have trouble buying a gift card using a gift card. Better off buying $400 worth of gift cards and purchasing the $100 gift card separately.

    To sum up,

    iPad2 = iPad1 + iOS 5.1.2~9 support + (A5-A4) + (512MB DDR2-256MB DDR) + 0.3MP front camera + 0.7MP back camera + gyroscope
    iPad3 = iPad2 + (A5X - A5) + (1GB PLDDR2 - 512MB DDR2) + (2048x1536-1024x768) + (5MP back camera - 0.7MP back camera)
    iPad4 = iPad3 + (A6X - A5X) + (1.2MP front camera - 0.3MP front camera) + lightning connection
    iPad5 = iPad4 + (A7 - A6X) + (LDPDDR3 - LDPDDR2)
    iPad6 = iPad5 + (A8X - A7) + 1GB LDPDDR3 + Touch ID + (8MP back camera - 5MP back camera) + barometer

    I like screen upgrade and RAM upgrade, so I hilighted that.

    • +2

      So which one is this iPad Air?

      • +2

        iPad 5 = iPad Air
        iPad 6 = iPad Air 2
        iPad 7 = iPad Pro

        • iPad Pro is completely different. iPad Air 3 may be on par with iPad Pro.

  • Or price match at Dick Smith at $429 and buy using DS gift card worth 390 and get value of $429 from Coles with 10% extra value (Starting 23 Sept). The ipad costs $390

    • and if you are going overseas and buying as present, claim the GST.. total cost $351..

    • +1

      Would Dick Smith price match though? Usually they're a pain.

      • well their policy seems preety clear.. as long as the retailer has it in stock; i dont think they can have any excuse..

        • +1

          The price must not be below our cost price.

          They'll use this line as you can't prove it's not.

        • @sween64: Hmm… good carch.. have you had any experience with them?

        • @ashar:
          Only in trying to get them to price match Telstra $30 Starter Kits down to $10.

  • +1

    Bought one thanks OP, using 5% off Wish Card and $100 gift card, costing $379. Will be claiming GST under TRS at the airport in a couple of weeks.

    • Great work! Did the $100 spend and iPad have to be in the same transaction?

      • +1

        I believe so, yes.

    • I thought the promo starts tomorrow.. as mentioned by OP :/

      Which gift cards do Big W have? I assume you can use them at woolies?

      • +1

        Sorry I meant I bought a $399 WISH Gift Card online, which cost me $379 after 5% discount.

        Will be going to Big W tomorrow morning to buy iPad and $100 gift card.

    • Went to Big W Rockdale… nil stock. They called Campsie, Miranda, Eastgardens, Bankstown… nil stock!

      Why advertise something on sale when there is little or not stock anywhere!!!

    • +1

      Got an iPad from Rockdale. Can't buy $100 gift card for $399 discounted price. Have to buy something physical.

  • These still have fairly good availability at Big W's around the place today, but to get it for $399 you have to buy something tangible worth $100. Buying Gift cards dosn't cut it… i tried! Still, good value for iPad Air at the moment when combined with the extra 5% WISH cards bought online.
