  • Nice deal, is Palit brand any good?

edit: is it worth to pay $60 more for GTX 960 or $70 more for r9 380?

    • Yes, go for the 960

    • +1

I've used a few Palit cards, haven't had any problems myself.

    • If I were you , I'd choose the R9 380 which easily beat the 960 in most of the games

Unfortunately I don't have the time to indulge in some games due to life decisions made 2 years ago =S

Congratulations on being married and having kids.

I'll dedicate my next gaming sesh to you.

        • Thanks mate , I used to do the same a few years back to my fellow gamer bros :D

        • @kamban:

All my friends are married, kids - responsible and what - all living vicariously through me when it comes to doing such things. Usually it's me being a slut, drinking more than whats responsible, or poisoning my body with other things. Gaming for you doesn't seem so bad either

          Haha

@Themojorising: Though I'm happily married and love and enjoy being a dad , I believe you are living the life , cheers and enjoy it to the max while you can mate :)

        • @kamban:
being a dad has transformed my pc gaming habits to casual tablet gaming habits!
          less counterstrike and more clashing

        • +1

@spinferno: haha thats an option ,but I've given up on gaming for a short while as any sound wakes the cute lil monster up and I hate gaming without sounds and have to keep the ears open for any suspicious sounds from the toddler , so no earphones too :(

      • i won't have much time gaming soon so i guess this would still be a good upgrade from my 6870, no point spend extra if i can't play much often like you now…

        • +1

Yeh , that's a fair point … if that is the case go for the 950

But if you do decide to splurge on the 960 , hope you consider R9 380 as it is only $10 more

        • @kamban:

Im getting ready for a new build myself - havent picked out my video card yet :X

        • @Themojorising:

Oooh I'm jealous now, the latest AMD fury is rated highly and a lil cheaper too .. Let us know how good the upcoming star wars battlefront looks like ( once released of course ;).

        • @kamban: end up getting 380 4GB..yeah…i know i won't have much time in future to game, but just can't resist it when i got there…:/

        • @winderic: wise choice my friend , enjoy the few minutes of gaming in better detail :)

    • Palit is the parent company that also owns Gainward so they are good.

  • I have a 750 GTX and it's just short on some games, I think the 950 GTX would be a great budget card

    Review on this particular card.

If you're gaming at 1080p, this might struggle in some games with high detail settings, but then again so would the 960. This is rated at 90W vs 120W though, so lower power requirements for not much less performance, and with a bit of overclocking can sit alongside the 960.

IMO, it's about what this card should be priced at really.

These prices drive me crazy, because I know that I got my R9 280, which blows this out of the water, for $230 about 2 months ago at MSY.

And they're still selling the 2xx series as runout stock. So you could easily pick up a 270x for less than this price. Which, in my opinion, would still easily beat the 950 as well as the 960.

    • A 270x does not beat a 960 at all… anyway I think it would be better to get a 960 for a bit more. I think the cheapest 960 is around 259 plus you get metal gear.

      • I stand mildly corrected. You are right sir/madam. The GTX 960 does beat the R9 270x in some/most games.
However, given that I can still find the 270x selling for the same price as the 950 (at a local generally overpriced store), I'm inclined to say it's the better option.

I personally wouldn't go under an R9 280, because I've seen how even it gets pushed around running some of the top games out at the moment.

  • Does anyone know if this would fit in a Sugo SG 13?

I did a quick google check but I could find a build to refer to.

I was thinking SG 13+i5+8gb ram+256GB SSD+GTX950+W10+450W slim modular PSU. Nice low power build :)

  • I didn't even know a 950 existed.

But I guess you don't need much for 1080p.

    • +2

Generally you need more than a PS4 or XBONE haha

  • hmmm…should i pay $50 extra for r7 370 4GB instead? Playing on 1080p only.
I know most benchmark 950 > 370 , but just thinking about the extra 2GB for future proof.
    Thanks
