  • looks nice is it eligible for win 7 upgrade ?

    • would this run win 7 nicely?

      • +1

easily, i beleive the dell mini 10 is similar specs

        • ok.

          • @JPOWER: Not Eligible & Win 7 HDD controller driver is apparently hard to come by and install. I think it needs to be slipstreamed into the installation disk.
-Win 7 not officially supported on this model by MSI.

    • thats an auction?

      • and its a HP

dude, grays online is an absolute joke. i'd never buy anything there.
      1) absolutely no warranty whatsoever
      2) buyers premium - add 15% to the final price
      3) not a new laptop* (in this case it looks new)

The item usually ends up more expensive than buying the item new.

+1. I will never buy from Grays Online again. Bought a high-end Seiko Chrono Watch from Grays Online and it came with the wrong owner's manual. Kept chasing them for the correct one and they never got back to me.

        +1.

        Also,
        4) They're an auction group, so tend to evade any reprimand from the ACC.

the story is this laptop was $1,000 on release

then MSI did a dirty and didn't bother to support Windows 7 on it

    so that's why it's only $499 now

there is no W7 upgrade… i don't think there's even MSI drivers but it should work if you install Intel generics

why worry about w7.. get it downloaded for free from internet…

  • Good deal, but 4 cell only? I'm looking for 6.

      • Only comes with Linux or ubuntu or whatever it is, but thanks anyway ;)

        • I got one of the 250gb $399 models that are sold out, very good buy IMO. Have w7 running on it. Battery life is very good. Just what i need for uni.

          • @impulse555: lucky, i missed out :(

            • @JPOWER: I actually think the U121 black, with 320gb and free delivery is a pretty good deal, its only $50 more than the 250gb blue version, I also picked one up and am running Win7 on it, it is a fantastic little machine to download torrents to, then have it silently sitting under the TV playing them back in HD.

You can option it up to an O/S of your choice ($124 for Win 7)

  • So how long does the battery actually last on this one? Look sexy, but only 4cells?

    • Battery strength should be excellent, >8hrs I'm guessing. The Atom Z530 is very low powered (and slower than the regular atom) but excellent for battery life. For using on the fly (train etc) this lappy would be excellent. Just for anything else you'd really want another laptop/PC available as the slowness would drive you insane for complex tasks. I have the same CPU in my 2 x Fit-PC2's. For what they do it's great.

EDIT: Oh, 4 cells… Didn't see that. Well surely >5hrs still, possibly more. The 13" screen possibly squeezes a bit more juice out of it than the 10-11" displays also.

      • +2

Review have it at about 3.5hrs battery on the 4cell

  • Is this an LED 13"?? and what are the odds of using a usb DVD drive to install win7?

    • usb stick is quicker and easier

    • Check this post, it has some really good instructions on how to get Win 7 onto a USB drive which is then bootable to get Win7 onto machines with no CD/DVD drive.

  • Great deal

  • Nice machine. Nice price.

Must be because the X340 supersedes this!

Anyone keen on the Alienware M11X (shown at CES)?

  • Nice deal! Hopefully we get more MSI X-series deals this year.
