Fountain Tomato Sauce 2L $2.75 & Coles

Starts with the 30/09 catalogue for a week

This is about as cheap as it gets at half price, I put tomato sauce on just about every meat product there is and have many litres on hand as usual. At this price it's cheaper than the coles brand 2l tomato sauce at $4, stock up!

If only they sold BBQ sauce in the 2L pack.

    • Nothing like barbecue sauce on a nice steak

they do sell BBQ sauce in the 2L packs, the question is will it be half price tomorrow. I bought some Fountain tomato and BBQ sauce when they were $1 at woolies for 500ml and already ran out of it. I like the taste of Fountain tomato and BBQ sauces, definitely buying some tomorrow.

      • Thanks, haven't seen it at my local. Will have to have a closer look tomorrow.

Yes it is half price, $3.25.

  • Nice find, thanks OP

On the subject of tomato sauce, I was in IGA tonight and saw some tomato sauce flavoured sausages. As an ozbargainer, I bought them so that I could save money by not having to put sauce on.

    • +3

bargain twist: they replaced some meat with tomato sauce

      • +4

        meat in supermarket sausages?

        • +6

As an Ozbargainer I don't step foot in an IGA.

    • haha epic

    • +5

Works out cheaper to just buy Sausage flavoured sauce…

Although it may cost more, and rarely on sale, nothing comes close to the flavour of Mon Tomato Sauce… http://www.monfoods.com.au/

    • I'm happy with coles tomato sauce, let alone mon tomato sauce, how much does this cost?

      • how much does this cost?

It's hard to find, you need to search for tomaoto suace

Probably explains why so many people have never heard of it…

        • A bit like OW's spec…

Maybe it's just me but ever since I was a kid I've always hated Fountain tomato — it tastes like they've put too much spices in and not enough tomato (or maybe it's just sugar…).

I'll take virtually anything else — Masterfoods, Rosella, Heinz. Dick Smith, Coles or any home brand/generic…

Their smokey barbecue sauce is good though.

      • Nah, rosella was always the worst for me. Had this unnatural processed taste that was just plain gross.

    • Even harder to find (and it almost resembles tomato relish as its so thick) is homemade sauce that I got from a market stall in bendigo. Once you have this, any other sauce just tastes like sugary syrup.

I use it very sparingly and instead use nando's sauce that I get from costco, which is delicious on meats.

  • I prefer Ketchup. Hard to go back to dead horse after that.

      That's unAustralian…

      • OzEsauce is true blue.

      • +4

Fair shake of the sauce bottle, mate

      • Perhaps. But ketchup is far superior. Rosella used to make a great tomato sauce which was nice and rich like ketchup. Then they switched back to their "Original Recipe" which was so bad I ended up throwing it out.

    • If he means the heinz 57, then i agree. Easily the best sauce/ketchup. Next is mon, then masterfoods.

      • Yes, Heinz 57

I wonder if Woolworths will ketchup on the price too

Ah, the catalogue. I was wondering where this deal was sauced from.

  • I must admit I like the odd piece of free range meat with ketchup, may want to follow that up with a coffee enema:)

  • Ah… A like minded soul. I hate when people make me feel bad about putting tomato sauce on everything.

    • +1

Well it just happens that tomato sauce and meat just make the perfect combination

    • I once gave my friend hand and homemade cheese and spinach triangles in filo pastry that took a while to make, with expensive feta cheese and mozzarella. 1st thing he said before he tried it - 'wheres the sauce?'. I said you dont need sauce, 'but I like sauce?……..? sauce please.'

I never made him another homemade thing again.

Thanks for letting us in on the saucy details.

I wish they had a 2L of the No added sugar variety.

    • Agreed - but I find I don't have as much, because it's not as nice! (double win?)

  • Now I just need to buy more cheap chips ;)

    • The woolworths or coles frozen chips aren't too bad or just buy the known brands when they are half price quite regularly

      • Yep, I never bought the known brands without promo lol …

These days the missus even made "fresh" wedges and chips…but just don't taste the same lol

        • Really, fresh is worse than frozen? Yeh they must add some crap that makes it taste good

        • +1

          @strikerzebra: Yes, seasoning :)

        • @Rod71:

My seasoning is tomato sauce haha

  • When i saw the bottle, first thing i thought was engine oil

    • +1

I bought 4 litres of engine oil
