just realised the M3 price is with the cashback. Does the listing include the lens?

      SLK = Single Lens Kit?

  • +1

Be aware there's only 4 EOSM lenses available for the Canon EOS M cameras. Canon are pretty far behind the mirrorless technology. Better off going Sony or Samsung.

    • where is the best place to buy samsung NX lenses?

      • First place to check is ebay and gumtree for used lenses. Generally you can save a few dollars if you're lucky enough to find them. Then you can look at jb and camera house, but they're pretty much full retail.

Get the EF adapter and use any EF lens?

      • -1

You loose sharpness and your aperture goes up by x1.6 when using full frame lenses on crop bodies. For best picture quality you use crop lens on crop bodies. You also have to pay an extra $130 for the adapter to get poorer picture quality, which does not make sense. You'd be better off buying another camera.

        • What are you on about? Where are you getting your facts from?

          1. You don't lose any sharpness.
          2. You don't get worse image quality.
          3. The physical aperture of a lens can't change by being mounted on a different body. 1.6x? What?
          4. The adapter is $65 off ebay.
        • @Orpheus:

You are incorrect and have no idea how crop sensors affects the image compared to FF.

          http://youtu.be/YDbUIfB5YUc

I have also performed tests photographing the moon and FF lenses do not offer as much sharpness as crop lenses on crop bodies.

I get more sharpness on my 50-200mm crop lens than a canon EF 75-300mm FF lens. Both lenses were performed on the same crop camera.

$65 is still $65 for worse image quality.

        • @Raima: Wrong. Stop spouting misleading and irrelevant information. The aperture of a lens does not change when you mount it on an APS-C body. There's no difference in mounting a lens on an EOS M body with the adapter over mounting it on Canon DSLR body and definitely no loss of sharpness or poorer picture quality. The adapter is hollow, so there is no loss of light or degradation of quality.

        • @Orpheus:

You are obviously are too lazy to perform your own tests or you are too heavily invested in FF lenses on crop bodies that you are in denial. Until you perform the tests or realise you are wrong, stop spouting misleading information. I've already provided information and tests debunking your information. You have no legs to stand on.

Here's another video explaining and demonstrating the tests how aperture changes when you change to different crop bodies with full frame lenses and how they differ from full frame bodies.

          http://youtu.be/f5zN6NVx-hY

        • @Raima: You completely misunderstand that video, and that video does nothing but prove my point. The physical aperture of a FF lens does not change when mounted on a smaller sensor. The light gathering ability is the same. What changes is the equivalent depth of field. Same as the focal length. That's simply the characteristic of using crop sensors. That has nothing to do specifically with the EOS M or the adapter. You're spreading misleading and incorrect nonsense.

Your solution to the problem of not mounting FF lenses on the EOS M is to buy another camera system. Are you completely unaware that Canon and Sigma/Tamron/Tokina etc make plenty of APS-C only lenses for the Canon mount? Adapting those APS-C lenses on an APS-C body would be no different to buying another APS-C system using APS-C lenses. You could also mount FF lenses to other APS-C mirrorless bodies and you would get the same depth of field and focal length equivalent changes, thus again meaning it's not an inherent issue and spcific with the Canon EOS M line of cameras.

Now can you please provide some factual evidence and links to where the EOS M adapter degrades image quality? Unlike the Sony mirrorless adapters for DSLR a-mount lenses (Sony LA-EA3 and LA-EA4), there is no translucent mirror in the EOS adapter that affects image quality. The image quality is the same, as it's hollow and is just providing a spacer the flange distance, along with some electric contacts. The adapter is also cheap as stated, and makes more sense to seriously consider than simply 'be better off buying another camera'. Get a Samsung or Fujifilm mirrorless body and you would actually be in a worse situation because they don't have any adapters with AF and no existing line of DSLR lenses, and definitely not such a huge collection as Canon.

Please, do your research and know what you're talking about before confusing others and spreading misleading false information.

        • @Orpheus:

Did you watch the first video? That's the video that demonstrates the degradation of images.

That debunks your 1: You don't loose any sharpness. You do.
          2. You image quality don't get worse. Well it's related to 1. So it is worse to use a FF lens on a crop body (with the exception of wildlife where you would of had to crop) than a FF lens on a FF body.
          3. The bokeh effect changes from ff bodies to crop bodies by about a stop. Here's another site that confirms it - http://neilvn.com/tangents/full-frame-vs-crop-sensor-cameras…
          4. As said earlier, a $65 is still $65 to get worse image quality. I stand by you're still better off getting another camera than the canon EOS-M range.

        • @Raima:

          1. You use full frame lenses on full frame bodies. APS-C lenses on APS-C bodies. m43 lenses on m43 bodies. Using an APS-C lens on an APS-C body makes it full frame for that format. This is nothing specific or inherent to Canon EOS M mirrorless cameras.
          2. Once again, buy APS-C lenses for your EOS M that uses the APS-C format. There are many APS-C lenses in Canon mount from Canon or other third party manufacturers like Sigma, Tamron and Tokina. All of them will work on the EOS M with no loss of IQ or sharpness.
          3. The bokeh does NOT change. The aperture does NOT change. The depth of field EQUIVALENT changes. Once again, if you're using APS-C lenses on APS-C bodies, that aperture and dof equivalent is the native equivalent. It's similar to saying FF lenses have poorer quality or sharpness or more depth of field because you're comparing it to medium format.
          4. The adapter does not alter image quality. It is a hollow adapter. No glass to distort the image. It's just a spacer to match the flange distance of the Canon dslr mount. If you get a Samsung mirrorless adapter, you'll be spending more than $65 on a third party adapter that doesn't even have autofocus. Only Canon and Sony have APS-C mirrorless bodies with adapters that provide AF, and the Sony one is a few hundred dollars and degardes IQ slightly due to the transparent mirror. The Canon one does not. Please cite your sources saying the Canon adapter degrades IQ.

Once again, please do more research before spreading false information, as you have misunderstood all the links you've provided and seem to have gotten confused and have difficulty understand the different formats and confused them with being a problem with the EOS M cameras for some reason.

        • @Orpheus:

The original discussion was always about loosing sharpness when using full frame lenses on crop bodies. You're trying to tell me what i have been originally saying and trying to make it your own idea.

You don't have a clue or you have a serious reading comprehension problem. To argue with you any further would be a further lost cause as you'd talk about something totally different to what was being discussed. Good day.

        • @Orpheus:

Test of same lens, but different bodies. 6d (20mp) vs 7d (18mp).

          http://www.dxomark.com/Lenses/Compare/Side-by-side/Canon-EF-…

Difference between P-MP is 6 when using the FF lens on FF body vs crop body. Sharpness is lost when using FF lenses on crop bodies.
