The review isn’t really selling it 😂

Hmm, interesting Hardware Unboxed review with all the drama… Also, must've been Movember? That mo is impressive and hilarious at the same time.

Edit: Oops, @vid_ghost beat me to it by 3 minutes…

    • +2

Yeah the moe is funny looking on Tim.. Steve can pull it off but not Tim haha

  • +1

Is there a 27 inch monitor of comparable quality at a good deal as well?

    • +3

This looks like a good price

I did recently gamble on this monitor since it's a bargain, despite no serious reviews. I am happy with it, but it's worth noting there isn't any kind of height/angle adjustment. The angle the monitor naturally sits at was tilted down too far, I had to prop it up unevenly. So you really get what you pay for there.
The panel does seem good? Looks nice and smooth. Compared to my older viewsonic, with both set to SRGB mode, the green does seem kind of lacking in parts of the spectrum, but I don't really know which monitor is misbehaving there. (I couldn't get the MSI to match the Viewsonic's nice green with any settings, but the MSI doesn't support much/anything beyond SRGB, so it is possible the Viewsonic is putting too much in even despite the configuration)
Overall, it works, and I've seen a lot of satisfied customer reviews, but no review from rtings/hardware unboxed or similar quality is concerning.

      • that for sure.

Have the 27" version. Great monitor.

  • I have the 27" and 32" both great, however both have a dead pixel each, was too lazy to return

  • They should bring back their 34" ultrawide nano ips.
34" ultrawide ips are rare for good price. Most are replaced with oled these days. However I want to be able to not worry about burn it and use it for WFH.

    • Have you owned an OLED in the last 5 years that has experienced burn in?

      • -1

You may have a point, but given Ive got burn in on an OLED TV, I aint touching an OLED monitor until theres been years of abuse and no burn in.

I was told burn in wasnt an issue but burn in I got. And when that happens you say to yourself never again… seems silly to trust the next promise.

        • How long ago did you buy the OLED TV that got burn in?

  • +1

I don't need another monitor, repeat I don't need another monitor xD

  • Is there a 27" version?

  • +1

can vouch for this — bought one a year ago for just under $600. an even better value at this price now.
paired it with a 32" GP750 for a second screen the pair has been great so far.

  • Anyone using this with a MacBook Pro? Does it run ok?

I’m currently using two dell 27” screens and it’s honestly starting to annoy me after these years and cause neck strain so was thinking if I could survive and move to just a single 32” or would it be better to go for. 34” ultra wide

    • Go an ultrawide 34 inch 3440x1440 you can fit 2 windows side by side and it's usable whereas a single 2560x1440 is too narrow.

    • This would be better (also way bigger) then a 34" ultra wide. Go for this you will love it.

      • But more reservations with resolution, can you fit two windows side by side ok?

        • Yes two web sites side by side work fine for me

      • How is it better and way bigger than a 34" Ultrawide 3440x1440 vs 2560x1440?

          • @vid_ghost: What's that got to do with a 34" Ultrawide and this 31.5" monitor? They wanted to replace the 2 monitors they're currently using with a single monitor and you're recommending a 31.5" 2560x1440 monitor over a 34" 3440x1440 because it's way bigger and better?

            • @yippy: physical size is also a factor. if 'm playing you tube watching TV shows or playing a game what i'm looking at is larger. vertical real estate is nice but its a personal preference whats more important to someone i guess.

              • @vid_ghost: It could be 50 inch and it would still show less than an ultrawide when you have 2 windows side by side.

  • This or a Samsung 28" Odyssey G70B?

    • +1

Well this is $434 and the samsung is $649

      Lg is QHD 180hz
      Samsung is 4k 144hz

I would get the LG. With how expensive graphics cards are yo u can get away with a cheaper one to run QHD vs 4k :) lots of people are moving back to QHD for the exact reason.

Also this LG has a usb hub

      • I can get the Samsung for about $525
Also I just bought a new rig with a 5070ti

        • +2

Another thing is a 5070ti may get you 144 to 180FPS at QHD but at 4k it will be very hard to get to 144 FPS. So do you want to play at 4k @ 60 FPS or QHD @ 120 FPS think of it like that

I guess there is the option to turn on DLSS
But games 2 years from now will have you back 4k @ 60FPS

Heads up some Nano IPS panels can burn your eyes because of the unique red phosphor.

    • +1

      How?

    • +2

Nano IPS is just a marketing term. its another layer ontop of the LCD to filter the light nothing more. Are you thinking about QD-LED That adds brightless to the pixel?

" No, Nano IPS panels do not cause eye burning. In fact, they are often lauded for reducing eye strain and improving the viewing experience compared to other display technologies. Nano IPS displays generally offer clearer motion, more accurate color representation, and better contrast, which can make long gaming sessions more comfortable and reduce eye fatigue. They also provide more consistent brightness and reduce glare, making them easier on the eyes overall, according to Enbon Group.

While some individuals may experience eye discomfort related to prolonged screen time, this is more commonly associated with Computer Vision Syndrome (CVS), which can be caused by factors like eye strain, dryness, or blurred vision. Nano IPS technology is designed to mitigate some of the causes of CVS, such as motion blur, and can actually be beneficial for reducing eye strain in many cases. "

LED lights do not emit infrared.
      Please do not provide miss-information.

        This guy monitors

        • This guy does know alot, and I respect that, having had many previous discussions on this forum when he might advise underclocking a 6900XTXH to save power while not using MTP to undervolt lower clock speeds.
However an AI generated comment that clearly lacks comprehension does not pack intellectual clout.

          • @chyawala: When i had HDR on or i turned up the brightness on my LG Ultragear 32GP850 100% it was burning my eye's and brain…
I switched back to SDR and have my brightness set to 10% out of 100 and its been perfect.

Pretty sure there are heaps of people out there who run 50% default out of the box brightness with their bedroom lights off at night and they wonder why they experience eye strain…. Nano IPS being inherently a " little brighter " then non nano IPS panels is only making things worse. at 50% brightness let along 100%
at 100% brightness at night with the lights off and this monitor is like cooking your brain through your eyes lol.. This is only a 350nits monitor… i would hate to see people with 800nit' monitors.

      • A simple web search shows much corroborating user evidence that specifically Nano IPS is associated with eye strain or burning eyes. Have such a $600 monitor here as as a door stop.
My comment is intended as a useful forewarning if an inheritantly flawed technology.
Your AI generated comment is not testimonial to the experience of the human eye, and it is irrelevant to cite unfounded claims made my the manufacturing corp. It's also most irrelevant to mention infra red. So clearly the discerning buyer will do their own due diligence.
I'm not here to convince you otherwise. True intelligence beholds both sides of opposing ideas.

        • I read those readit forum posts. Those people need to turn down their brightness. The human eye can only absorb so much light before it starts to stain.

Scientifically nano IPS is not the cause.. i would say its LG's aggressive out of the box defaults for their per-configured monitor profiles.
I didn't like any of them and had to change to a custom setting.

  • How are the black levels on this monitor? The Rtings review criticizes it heavily.

    • +1

I bought this last year, it definitely isn't great for dark scenes in movies and games but I haven't really messed around with the colour options at all

      • IPS is not as good for dark movies and TV shows as OLED and VA

Its black level darkness isnt the best. However for PC and gaming use its great.

    • I was "Upgrading " from a Dell VA Panel and am very disappointed .
This thing has noticeable IPS Bloom with the added bonus of gradient banding within the bloom .
Definately not an IPS guy I guess . Maybe there are much better IPS monitors out there .
This is marketed as being a HDR monitor but it is definitely not a performer when it comes to black levels .
This thing comes into it's own in a bright room gaming , Thats it's forte .

  • +1

I’ve been looking for a second monitor for a while. Do you think this will go good with my current Gigabyte M32U 4K monitor?

    • +1

If both are 32" in size they will match well on the desk.

I have two 32" Screens. Love the setup

  • Doesn't appear to have a VESA mount

    • +2

      It does have VESA 100x100
      https://www.displayspecifications.com/en/model/19512327

It also lists wall mountable 100x100 on the LG spec page

    • +3

There's VESA 100x100 mount, its just under the original stand. I have 2 of these monitors on arms, and about to build a triple screen sim racing setup with these monitors.

    • +1

Ah cool thanks. Sorry I must be going blind

  • +1

What is text quality like on this? (assuming mixed gaming / productivity)

    • +1

If your face is closer then 20cm (thats pretty close) to the screen you can see pixels. Anything further away the text quality is good and i've had no issues. Its better then FHD (1080P) 27"

The LG menue also lets you adjust sharpness and text quality.

    • if you have no issues with 1080p 24in, then this is only going to be better than that. perfect 100% scaling monitor imo.

  • +1

Watch out of any bad backlight bleed on your model. Mine is pretty average.

    • Yep , Black levels are not great to start with and then the graying around the edges is the icing on the cake .
      Not impressed at all .

      • did you just get one?

        • Arrived last week .

          • @troyww: If the bleed is that bad could return through amazon

            • @goig986: I'll give it a go . Wife threw the box out today .

LG Ultragear 32GP850 or the OMEN 32q, which monitor should I get or which is better? some input would be appreciated, thanks.

  • LG Ultragear 32GP850 10 bit panel vs 8 bit panel on the HP OMEN 32q

LG Ultragear 32GP850 180hz vs 165hz on the HP OMEN 32q

LG Ultragear 32GP850 comes with a in house LG IPS Panel vs a random luck of the draw panel with the HP OMEN 32q .. there is a good one and a bad one. :) HP have sourced their display panels from two companies and one is good and the other is mediocre.

    Get the LG

    • +1

      Thanks vid_ghost, appreciate it!

      • :) no worries

  • This or the 34 inch curved?

    • 100% this you wont regret it… also has amazon 30 day money back.

  • It's still $749 for me :(
