  • OMG, that's so unreal, $699 is a great deal!

    • BTW, are they selling a demo mac?

      • They didn't say anything about demo so I assume that it's new

  • Several questions: which Myer? Was there only one or is this the price on all their stock. Where can I find the specs (PC user looking for opportunity to switch to Mac).

    • +1

These were at parrmatta westfield, not sure about other stores.
Google should help, i think it's this http://lowendmac.com/macbook/macbook-white-2008.html

      • Thanks Wang. Not sure if the specs are up to it for me to make the switch. Thought I had found the greatest bargain of all time. Apple should have a one-time special of 50% (or more) off all MacBooks for the same spec PC's being traded in. For $1000 I'd give them my Dell laptop and ditch Microsoft once and for all.

          macs are over rated..
yes, vista was completely shit… but 7 is a big win imo.

  • According to the model number it is 699x/a which makes this the late 2006 model. Nothing to get excited about except that it's brand new. But wouldn't spend that much on 3 year old model.

The iMac however is the early 2009 model which is 417 x/a. That is a much better buy.

    • Thank yo for your information, the title has been updated accordingly.

    • But the photo shows the iMac with a processor speed of 2.2Ghz and it should be 2.66Ghz shouldn't it?

  • Apple MacBook MA699X/A (1.83 GHz / 1 GB / 80 GB / 13.3 in)

    sound right?

    • that sounds about right. may or may not have a super drive and probably the worse thing about this is the graphics are Intel GMA 950 which is what my eeepc has. So overall not brilliant. Better off getting a PC for the same price with better specs and installing Mac OSX on it instead.

      • it's weird how microsoft licenses windows for use with macs but apple doesn't do the same fo pcs

        • it's so that you buy Apple hardware.

          • @mookie3three: Not totally. If it sold the Mac OS for PC's then it would have to support this, and given so many variations of hardware on a PC, this would be a nightmare. However if someone does make it available for a PC, then they are not under any obligation to support it.

@[Deactivated]: Exactly, part of the success of OS X these days is they only have a limited subset of hardware to support. The best thing about Windows is that it supports literally billions of different hardware configurations.

Try putting OS X on the same billions of configurations and very quickly people will hate it (can't find driver for xx, driver xx crashes xx because mfg doesn't support it anymore!).

mookie3three's point is also part of the reason, they make a substantial sum by selling the hardware, development costs are also reduced because testing only has to go so far before they've covered all their bases.

            • @[Deactivated]: Apple runs around suing anybody who dares sell a PC with OS X installed on it (e.g. Psystar).

        • It's not weird. Apple is a hardware company that makes great software to entice people to buy their hardware. Not the other way around. In my opinion..

  • I think these are the specs.

    http://support.apple.com/kb/SP23

  • MA-699XA means 1.83, 2 x 512Mb, 13.3 and combo drive

pretty bad specs for this day and age

  • macbook on Tiger! luckily you can still upgrade to Snow Kitty for the same price. That's the 1st macbook on core2duo…

  • note: there is a chance Apple will announce the release of updated versions on their computers on 26th in time with the launch annoucement re the tablet. this is likely to lead to discounting on older models ie everything in stock currently. Myer may be clearing stock in anticipation…(caution: There are lots of inferences and assumptions in my note here.)
