      At least its unisex…

    • 3 hdmi iirc
      1 year in home warranty
Unsure about Dolby, have to check tomorrow.

Isn't Australia consumer law 2 years warranty on these?

        • +3

Consumer law is a 'reasonable' period of time, but not defined. 2 years would be considered reasonable, though.

        • Alot of people ask me that. I'm fairly certain that 1 year warranty is still widely used.

@ferrarifreak: You would expect it to last for at least 10 years(maybe a bit longer on the smaller sizes considering they are not really budget priced), so the the Statutory Warranty would have to be at least the 10 years. You could probably argue longer considering there are many budget TV's that have lasted a lot longer than that.

        • @ferrarifreak: Do you understand the difference between a Manufacturer's voluntary warranty and the legal Statutory Warranty?

        • @Major Mess:

you expect a 60 inch $800 tv to last 10 years? I think you would have a hard time arguing that in a statutory warranty argument

        • @SBOB: Of course it should last that long. Size should not change longevity, if they use bodgey Caps it wasn't of a merchantable quality in the first place. I have an 10 year old Plasma still going strong with no reason to ]expect it to stop in the next 10 years. I have an old Toyoda 29"(budget TV at $1000 in 1992) that was running around the clock for years, and has been outside under the pergola for the last few years. I don't think $800 for a 60" is a budget throw away price - I am pretty sure Goldstars have been cheaper for that size.

Anyway, a good way to sort Statutory Warranty is to look at what "extended warranties" the retailers are selling for the model and wack another 50% on.

  • A few in parkmore (vic) last weekend also in the toy section of all places so can confirm.

Why would you spend that on a cheap brand like that, gee if big w are selling them they must be good.

    • +2

      ???

      • Save a penny is referring to the idea that anything cheap is bad,

        http://www.lifehacker.com.au/2015/10/you-dont-need-an-expens….

The idea is that one shoe fits all, the most expensive one :)

FYI I own a Viano. It was good enough for what I needed.

        • Yeah I'm looking for something in the 55-65" range for ~$660. Quality not hugely important as long as the panel is decent. Happy to wait though :)

        • @Lukian: OOS now but this one was sub $500 for 55 inch: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/217024

        • @ilikeradiohead: Yeah I was tempted on that one, but bigger is better! =)

        • @Lukian: Target near me (Knox) have a 54.5 inch tele I'm gonna go in and grab soon for 699, pretty sure I've seen it at Eastland Target when I wasn't in the market for one a month or two back so it might be at all Targets.

  • I paid $950 for Hitachi 60" less than a year ago :)

    • +3

Hitachi sold the rights to their name on TVs back in 2008. Could be the same manufacturer for all we know.

    • +1

and you got a no name set. Hitachi is just a sticker these days ..

For about $100 more, I would rather get this:

    https://www.jbhifi.com.au/tv-home-entertainment/hd-televisio…

    Pros
    - UHD
    - Android
    - 3 years warranty
    - picture looks acceptable in store.

    Cons
    - You loose 2 inches (luckily not that important in this case).

I have a 32 viano. It's slow to change channels and chews 10w on standby. I would recommend finding one on display and having a play with the remote before purchase. And I would bring a plug in power meter and get some watt readings when on and in standby. I don't think this is worth it when there are 55" branded options for a few hundred more.

Channels? Oh, I remember those. People still watch live free-to-air!?
I guess somebody must watch those commercials, or they'd have shut down already.
