Plane Finder - Google Play App Deal of the Week - $0.20 (Was $2.99)

1760

Plane Finder shows live moving planes on a worldwide map and has been beautifully re-engineered. The map view is front and center giving an uninterrupted view of air traffic and features are quick to access. Plane Finder has been top rated and top ranking since 2009 and covers most of the world, tracking 12,000+ planes simultaneously. Search by flight number, place name, airport, airline & aircraft, or browse the map.

23 different plane markers are included and airline logos are displayed next to planes for easy identification. Simply tap a plane to see detailed flight & aircraft information including photographs, or tap an airport to see live arrivals and departures boards. You can even use Augmented Reality (AR) view to identify planes overhead using your device camera.

Plane Finder has been featured by Gizmodo, CNN, GMA, BBC, Sunday Times, Mail on Sunday, CNET, Wired, GQ Magazine, and many more. We have millions of happy users and Plane Finder is regularly updated with innovative new features. Our support team always listen to and reply to feedback.

At a glance our worldwide coverage includes:

• Europe 95% - realtime
• North America - 100% via slightly US delayed data – Nationwide realtime ADS-B network in place and capturing 95% of ADS-B equipped aircraft
• Rest of World - Excellent coverage in Australia, New Zealand, Central America, Brazil, Japan, Taiwan, Dubai, India, Malaysia, Thailand, South Korea, Maldives, Mauritius, Singapore, Hong Kong and many more countries.

Important Note: Plane Finder works by picking up real time ADS‐B signals used by aircraft to transmit positional data to land-based receivers. This technology is faster than traditional radar and is used for air traffic control and navigation. ADS‐B is not used by all airlines or aircraft, however this is changing and the number of aircraft tracked by ADS‐B is increasing all of the time. Traditional radar type data in near real time is also included for North America.

Is this app able to find the MH370?

    • Not sure but it is Taliban and ISIS approved.

      • +4

And Russian… I mean rebel approved?

        • they were knowingly flying over a war zone to literally save 'gas money'.

some airlines are still doing it. the passengers boarding these flights also don't seem to give a f

          BTW, great app! Thanks

        • -1

@Son ofa Zombie: Yeah, they totally had it coming to them.

        • I think you might all benefit from this app.
You are confusing MH370 (lost at sea) with MH17 (downed by a Russian missile over Ukraine).

        • @OBone: lost at sea or jungle?

        • @GregFiona: I think that lengthy air and sea search pretty much sums up where MH370 is believed to be.

    • +9

      Totally predictable joke. Thanks dad

      • +12

        No worries son ;)

    • no signal from MH370…

  • Has anyone used this for Australian tracking?

    • +2

Yep, it's pretty decent. As these apps rely on feed from different networks of people with ADS-B receivers, it's interesting that sometimes this app will show planes that Flightradar24 doesn't, but also vice-versa.

      • +1

Would you rate this over FlightRadar24? I already own/use FlightRadar24.

        • +10

It's 20c, splash out and decide for yourself !

        • I tend to just go back and forward between the two. As an example, I live under the flight path in Sydney. Sometimes I'm awake in the middle of the night and a plane will come over during the curfew. For some reason sometimes one or other app will not show the plane but the other will. Interface wise it's pretty good.

        • @silvertone:
Well I bought it anyway. However:

Zooming to show all of Brisbane shows "4 of 4464 visible". That's from Scarborough up north to Archerfield in the south and out to D'Aguilar national park. 2 of those are in the air but aparrently only 75 feet apart. I'm pretty sure that wouldn't be allowed so isn't real. Plus there should be a few more than that.

Flight Radar 24 (website version) shows about 10 just in the airport runway area ie taxiing, landing etc.

        • @Shonky:

Yeah, I'm in Sydney but comparing the two now, I see the same planes in the air over Brisbane on both apps, but FR24 is showing multiple more aircraft on the ground in Brisbane. Interesting.

      • Does it only pick up commercial air traffic?

        • +1

No. All ADSB equipped aircraft with a few exclusions for security purposes.

I have been using another free app called "FlightAware". I have just tried "Plane Finder" and I like it. Update rate is very good and it gives you much more information. Thanks!

    • Thanks for this, I have been using FlightAware too and wasn't sure whether if I needed a third app. Guess I do !!

  • Just switched from WP to Droid, so this APP discount came at the right time, as I used it a lot on my Windows Phone.

  • Thanks, just tried this in Melbourne. Lots of fun.

  • +1

How is this compare to the FlightRadar24 Pro that I owned?

  • Anyone else having issues with purchasing this app?
It is listed as $0.20 but when I go to purchase, it jumps back to $2.99.

    • No issues i just installed.

  • There is a 3D version at $0.99. I am not sure if it's a regular or discount price. Anyone knows if there is any price tracker site for Google Play apps?
    https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.pinkfroot.…

  • Not bad at all. I like it.

  • +1

I just realised there is an in-app of $2.99 per item. Anyone knows what it is? Is it necessary?

    Plane Finder

Thanks, Lost one the other day…

    • +4

Mine has a whistle finder attached to its keys

    • +1

one of your better jokes. still not funny

    • Was it painted in Malaysia Airlines livery?

  • +6

Good 'ol TA, he is just a plain finder of deals….

    • +4

Do you reckon TA practises finding all these deals, or just wings it?

      • +4

I think his reputation has certainly taken off

  • Nice. FlightAware + FlightRadar24 plus a nice map-view.

  • Paid full price for this a few months ago, definitely a no brainer at this price.

    • Not if you've already bought it ;)

  • It's planely very lackluster in tracking ability for Perth airport (: FlightRadar24 does a better job.

  • Same app on ios $4.99
    Apple tax?

  • -1

    What else does it track?

  • I've been using FlightRadar24 for a while and have been pretty happy with it so far.

Hopefully the price drops on the iOS version soon and I'll snap it up and try this app. Currently $4.99 in iTunes.

    • +4

Set an alert here… and you'll get an email when it does…

  • Very nice little app, thanks for sharing!

  • Thank you op you are legend. i didnt know about it, now i can show flights to my kids when i do travel.. :)

  • Plane finder, pls tell me Where is MH370?

  • I've had FlightRadar24 for ages, the coverage on Plane Finder seems to be terrible compared to FR24. I played with it for a bit but got a refund.

    Thanks anyway TA, always appreciated.

  • can this be used to find snakes? lol

    • +1

Only if they're on the plane

  • Coverage is pretty hit and miss with this app… ended up getting a refund.

  • +2

again..I'm amazed MH370 still missing without atrace till now with all these technology

    • Technology can never be as smart as human interventions

  • Forgive my ignorance but what is this app useful for? Why would you wanna track planes? Business case for this investment?

    • -1

      Terrorism.

    • +1

you obviously don't do airport pickups - we use it to see when mates/family are arriving.
Also fun with kids - you point it at a plane in the sky & can see where it's going/coming from.
worth the 20c just for that.

      • +1

Honestly? My family and friends do provide me their flight details and using something like flight status tell me if they are delayed or on time. Dont see the need for a paid app.
There are ways of other things to do then guessing planes.

        Thats thought….
        Still not convinced.

    • Same business case as the eneloops I bought last week when ds had 30% off, only to see them $1 cheaper three next day. Ozbargain peer pressure!

  • +5

Time to spend your google survey credits!

  • +2

Not good enough to be a paid app and asking for a refund @ $0.20? Geez, tough crowd.

  • +2

I got an alert saying a plane is squawking 7700. Should I call someone?

    • It squawked at 2 or 3 this morning. Wasn't appreciated. Ignored it and went back to sleep. Just turn off the alerts.

      • Another one around midnight. I watched as the plane descended quickly and disappeared just before the runway.

In the end it was a bomb threat on the plane and it made an emergency landing.I was wondering if I was watching a live feed of some peoples last moments!
