        • What's worse?

They advertised it on special in their last catalogue, but no shop had any stock and you couldn't purchase it online.

Once the sale has ended on the 15th, they magically appear in stores everywhere I went to but for the normal price of $349.
This is false advertising at its worst.

          To be honest?
At that price, I would rather get the Asus Zenwatch 2 from Harvey Norman for $366.
          http://www.harveynorman.com.au/phones-accessories-gps/wearab…

          PROS:

          AMOLED screen
          Metal band
          Bigger screen
          Better functionality

          CONS:

Poor battery life compared with the PTS.

        • @JajaMinx: A friend just picked up a standard Samsung Gear S2 from Telstra for around ~$350. That's a nice watch too

        • @JajaMinx: Not justifying what they did, but you could have placed a pre-order during the $211 sale. =P

        • @koganei:

LOL I know, now I'm feeling the pain.

Maybe not so bad, I did buy a PT when it was on sale.
So now I have an excuse to buy a Zenwatch 2 just to mix it up a little. XD

        • @ryanj:

But the problem is that the Gear S2 runs on Tizen not Android wear.

I have no idea how compatible it is with devices other than Samsung Galaxy.

  • What screen protectors, gadget wraps, skins etc. are people using on their Pebbles?
I bought a slickwrap, but they are using the same one for both Time and Time Steel. The bezel skin basically makes it look more like a Time, since it has a thicker bezel. Screen protector was a bit tricky to get on, I butchered the first one and the second one is much better (2 in a pack). Wish there were tempered glass ones available.

  • Gawler place in Adelaide just called me to say my time steel is available for pickup. Phone guy said he wouldn't match last week's price but I'll see when I pickup tomorrow.

At least they called, I didn't think they would.

I've tried but they said no.

They were nowhere to be seen when on sale last week.
Then as soon as the sale was over, they magically appeared in cabinets.

What a dick move by dick.
Perhaps someone working for dick stuffed up with the sale price so they decided to withhold majority of stock until after the sale.

Now it's selling at a ridiculous price of $349 when you can buy a much better smart watch for the same price or less.

  • To tell you the truth… I think the Pebble Time is worth $150 not $240 and the Pebble Time Steel is worth $199 not $349 ($291 sale price).

For the same price you can buy other smartwatches with more features and better hardware.

Is this R.R.P from Pebble or Dick Smith?

Find me another smart watch that is water resistant to 30, has over a week battery life and thousands of apps and I will buy it. Right now for me, Pebble is best watch in its price range hands down. And yes, I've owned a gear and Microsoft band and went back to pebble.

        1. How often are you 30m underwater?
        2. What good is your pebble time steel without a phone connected to it?
        3. This is related to 2., what phone can submerge 30m underwater?
        4. It only has a weeks worth of battery life when you have it on standby. Once you connect it to your phone and have a few notifications pop up on your watch, battery life goes down a lot quicker.

Pebble is a good watch, but no way it's worth more than $200.

        • You clearly do not understand the water resistant markings on watches if you think 30m means you can go 30m under water!

And the PTS has advertised 10 days battery life, which in my experience the last few weeks comes very close to…definitely over 7 days as a minimum.

        • @so3n: That's exactly my point, it is water resistant to 30m but in reality it is pretty pointless.

        • @JajaMinx: Water resistance of watches is measured to an ISO standard. At 30m the watch is splash/rain resistant and suitable for everyday use. This isn't pointless at all if you're comparing to a watch that hasn't been measured to the ISO standard at all and is potentially not even splash resistant.

        • @so3n:

"Water Resistance for Time and Time Steel
Both the Pebble Time and Pebble Time Steel are water resistant up to 3ATM, according to the ISO 22810 standard. This means that Pebble Time is able to stay on your wrist as long as you don't go deeper than 30 m."

According to the above, it does mean it can go under water up to 30m.

        • @JajaMinx:
Even if you beleive that, it is better to have a 30m water resistant watch than a watch with no water resistance at all. I doubt anyone with a pebble is going to push it to the 30m water depth limit otherwise one should consider a proper divers watch. But like I said a 30m water resistant watch is splash/rain resistant whereas a watch without water resistance markings has no guarantees. So not pointless at all.

          This is more reliable:
          https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Water_Resistant_mark#Water_res…

        • @so3n: I understand what you're saying and you do have a very valid point.

I'm just saying, being water resistant up to 30m does not really justify a $300 price tag.

Most smart watches are rated at IP67 anyway, which means these devices are resistant against water ingress to a maximum of 1 meter of water for up to 30 minutes.

In other words, resistant to splash/rain (water ingress) and this is more than sufficient for everyday use.
I mean you wouldn't go diving with a smartwatch anyway which is less than practical.

Take this out of the equation and you have a watch that is somewhat inferior to an Asus Zenwatch 2 at a similar price point of $296 with superior hardware and software.

          http://www.harveynorman.com.au/phones-accessories-gps/wearab…

I'm not saying the Pebble Time Steel is a bad watch.
In fact, I think it's a good watch when priced at around the $200 mark.
I own a Pebble Time and I like it very much.

          1. Never, but I do surf. What other smartwatch can you surf with?
          2. There are HUNDREDS of apps that don't require a phone connection…..
          3. Same as above
          4. I have 7 days of pretty good use before a charge (PTS), and I'm using the watch quite a lot! Even reviewers of the watch who state they used it a lot get around this and more. And this craps all over other smart watches that say 2 days but only give you one day.

You say its not worth more than $200, but I would MUCH rather this than the $300 Zenwatch you pointed out. So it is worth more for me.

  • Just picked up my black PTS for $199 because it didn't come with the metal band! =D

On their system, it actually even says that it comes with the leather band and has another metal band in the box to swap with.
Nope, not in the box. So the guy gave me the discount without much resistance. =P

At least this was a triumph for me, good luck to everyone else!

I can post my invoice if anyone wants it.

  • Anyone who's ordered a truffol band from their website, how long did it take to receive via standard shipping?

    • Hi

What colour PTS do you have? I have a silver truffol band on the way (its been about a month).

My friend gave me their spare pebble strap, so I will have my truffol one for sale.

Let me know if you're keen

    • roughly couple of weeks for me, this is a couple of months back though. I'm sure they'd be delays now.
