  • Anyone know if it's possible to order online?

The pebble steel still looks better IMO. But apparantly the Pebble time will have smart bands available in the near future, which will add heart rate functionality.

    Very tempting…

  • +1

Just pre-ordered a Black Time Steel, $249 with 10% deposit. Staff member noted he did have to do a customer order and it all went through just fine. He said even if it is a pricing problem he can run it through at the pre ordered price.

  • +1

I just ordered the black pebble time steel. This appears to be available from the pebble website for USD299.98, which is a lot more than AUD249.

  • I was trying to order from DSE Glen waverley (vic) but the staff said they know nothing about it. And can't process any preorder for me. Probably should try other DSE

    • They should be able to look it up. The DSE I went to knew nothing about it, but searched and found it.

Although if you have another DSE close by, might be worth a shot.

  • I just ordered the black pebble time steel and the wait begins. Does any1 know when is DS expected to receive order from Pebble.

    • 4th of November

      • Definitely? Or are you joking?

        • +2

Have been told by sales rep that they're on the way though embargo from selling until the 4th.

        • @jbuttnz: Thanks

        • +2

@jbuttnz: Called DSE today and they said its going to take a week and half more.

        • @jbuttnz: Don't know if you're actually doing it or not, but a little bit of credit would be nice :) Stealing what I post on reddit and then posting it on OzBargain is kinda ticking me off. Cheers mate

        • +1

@ryanj:. Yes I did discover the pre-order from your original reddit post - thought it might get a bit more interest here. My brother's a rep for DSE and confirmed no sales of PT or PTS until after the 4th. I'm happy to mention your post as my original source :)

        • @jbuttnz: re-reading my post I came off a bit full-on, sorry mate! I made a second post about the embargo in the subreddit too. Any word if we're getting it on the 4th or later?

        • @ryanj: Called my local DSE today and they said there's no stock at their warehouse yet.

        • @koganei: sigh, typical Dick Smith. Was excited to pick it up today

        • +1

@koganei: just gave my store a call, and they said they're expecting it to be in the delivery at the store today

        • @ryanj:
My local DSE says that Head Office is getting them today. Depending on when they get sent out, mine MIGHT arrive by Friday.

        • @barryquinn: I ordered mine before it was even advertised in the catalog, so I've got real high hopes for today

        • @ryanj: Here's hoping…

        • @ryanj: My local DSE said that Head Office wouldn't even start sending them out to the stores until tomorrow, and to wait up to a week.

        • Just went to my local store since I had to go to the PO anyway. They said their distribution centre just got 500 units today, so probably another week until they get them in-store.

This is Brisbane, other states may have better luck.

        • @koganei: Going to my store in an hour or two, will update then :)

        • @ryanj: How'd you go?

        • @koganei: Sadly nothing yet, but they can expect a call from me every day until I get it. Which watch did you go for?

        • @ryanj: PTS Black.
Originally, I only planned to get a PT since I didn't mind the plastic and the slightly shorter battery life, I didn't think it was worth paying the extra just for the steel. But since this deal, I opted for the steel just because I could now get it for the same price as the PT if I ordered it from Pebble themselves. =P

        • @ryanj: I got told something different today…that they're still on their way to the distribution centre…

I hope pricing remain the same at least for people with pre-booking.

        • @koganei: you're kidding…

        • +2

@Ali1988: Nope, if you've preordered it, you're getting it at that price. don't let 'em tell you otherwise

        • +1

@ryanj: Well this'll be fun. Look forward to people's updates come release time. Hope they don't up the price as I've already bought accessories for it.

        • @Lem_is_cool: Don't forget that you're going to want to waterproof-test it too, so we might be waiting until next year to wear our watches. Dunking it in a cup of water for 30 minutes seem like the way to go.

        • @ryanj: I haven't heard of any suffering water damage. I've been swimming, surfing and jet skiing with no issues.

        • @jbuttnz: You got yours?!

edit: have you also not seen all the problems on the subreddit? Water damage is the biggest problem with the Time

        • @ryanj: Yeah I received my Kickstarter PTS a couple of months back and the steel band arrived last week. I wasn't aware of the water issues. Like most product forums, we're guaranteed to hear all about the small percentage that fail. I wouldn't be too worried about it.

        • @jbuttnz: Still good to test it before the warranty expires!

        • +1

It's almost a month since I pre-ordered the watch. Called Central Plaza branch today and got told that Pebble has pushed Australian release date. They are still waiting for shipment.

        • @Ali1988: I keep getting told it's at the distribution centre, now I got told it's at customs? What a load of garbage.. Don't expect to get the watch anytime soon

        • @ryanj:
I called the Adelaide city one and the guy just said no idea when being recieved but we'll be notified when they're in. Guess I'll just watch this thread for info.

        • @Lem_is_cool: i called an outer melbourne store yesterday and they said it was still on back order and may be another couple of weeks (for black steel at least. Unsure on other variants).

        • +2

@Lem_is_cool: Yep, I can always tag you when i post new stuff about it if you like?

        • +2

@ryanj: I went to the store I ordered with and a guy behind the counter said it's going to take another 2-3 weeks. Bummer. Tag me too please!

        • +4

@hastetowaste: @tekkrohnz: Tried calling head office, apparently there's none for Dick Smith though. Annoying. I ended up calling up a store in the Melbourne CBD and was told it'd be a week or two more until Pebble allows them to sell. I then sent off an email to Pebble today, and now I'm just waiting on a reply. Will keep you in the loop!

        • +5

@hastetowaste: @Lem_is_cool: Got an email back from Pebble today, they say:

          "Hi Ryan,

Thank you for letting us know!

Unfortunately, we do not have insight on the distribution supply, however I have forwarded your feedback to our retail channel to look into. We would like to thank you for letting us know about the issue in case there is an issue.

Hopefully either our retail team or Dick Smith will have more information for the pre-orders in Australia through Dick Smith soon.

Thank you for all your patience and your support!
          Best wishes,

          Trish"

        • +1

@ryanj: What a pitiful reply! Maybe they outsource their customer service.

        • @ryanj: Shame! Well I guess we just have to wait a little bit more….

        • My friend received her PTR preorder from Pebble five days ago…

        • Just saw a PT at a second hand shop for $180…yet the DS store in the same shopping centre just told me they don't know when they're getting theirs…

PTS for $99 at US target. Now even $250 at DS looks rip.

        • +1

@Ali1988: Probably an error. They did the same one month ago. The page says:

          shipping not available

          not available - order pickup

          not sold in stores

        • @barryquinn: Well I hope that's the case. However couple of people got it online as per this reddit post

          https://m.reddit.com/r/pebble/comments/3sxyyx/pts_at_target_…

        • @koganei: wow really? Whereabouts

        • +3

@ryanj: @hastetowaste: @Lem_is_cool: @barryquinn: Am in contact with both Pebble and Dick Smith's "relevant team", will update as I get more info.

I was in my local store and they called up the warehouse only to get through to a disconnected number…

        • +1

@ryanj: Thanks Ryan. Given the complete lack of information from Dick I'm starting to wonder if we'll get it this year at all.

        • +1

          @ryanj: Garden City Westfield, Brisbane

        • +1

@apey75: No problem mate. As always will keep you all in the loop. Just want the bloody watch before my birthday.

        • +2

          @ryanj: Any news mate?

        • +2

@garethb: For what it's worth I called up the Melbourne CBD store and had no information other than that Dick Smith have not yet received the delivery from Pebble. They could not provide an ETA.

        • @apey75: sad :( thanks for the info mate

        • +2

@garethb: Got a reply from Pebble, they told me to check with Dick Smith, what a great load of help, right? Am still in contact with Dick Smith's "relevant team" and will update whenever people like or whenever I get more info

        • +3

@ryanj: First of all, keep up the good work guys. I've been checking this page daily trying to get some clue as to when my preorder's coming in.

Secondly, while I was waiting for a friend to get coffee last night I checked in at the Dick Smith I was standing outside of (Calamvale, Brisbane) and asked if they could look up the Pebble Time Steel and what they could tell me about availability. The girl said that the computer was telling her that the distribution centre had confirmed receipt of 500 PTS on November 4th, but with a furrowed brow she couldn't guess as to why they hadn't been sent to stores yet (let alone released for sale).

        • +1

@LineOf7s: Yup, same as what I've been told. It's shitty that head management isn't telling any of the stores what's going on.

I wanna make sure everyone knows not to get riled up and yell at the workers. It's head Dick that you should be mad at

edit: Here's the email I got from Pebble:

          Hi Ryan,

          Thank you for reaching out!

I won't hear back from them. More likely than not, our retail channel will reach out to Dick Smith as they are the customer. I would suggest reaching out to Dick Smith again to see if they have received an update.

I have forwarded your email again, this time requesting that if possible, that our retail support reach out to you as well with an update.

Thank you for all your patience and your support!
          Best wishes,

          Trish

          No help at all, lol

I was also told yesterday that they're still taking preorders, too, which is pretty stupid.

        • +1

The annoying part is that I had one pre-ordered through Pebble that was ready to ship on the day the Dick Smith deal came out. The price difference was too much for me NOT to cancel my preorder, and it's totally worth waiting for to save the more than $130 (incl DHL shipping), but when I remind myself that it's more than a month later and still nothing… well… dayum.

        • +1

@ryanj: I'm glad she thinks that "reaching out" will achieve something. I wonder what management school she went to.

        • @LineOf7s: Target US has the Time Steel for only $99, so the deal isn't looking all that good anymore :P

        • @ryanj: It's $249. I just checked. I think the $99 price was an error, but that a few lucky people may have got it at that price.

        • @barryquinn:
yeah just like our dicksmith pre ordered PT/S is most likely an error too (guessing its suppose to be $249USD not 249AUD :P)
          really hope it'll arrive soon!

        • @barryquinn: tons of people got it at that price though!

        • @constantly L8: Starting to wonder if that's why we haven't received it yet. If DS delay this delivery sufficiently a lot of people would probably back out of the pre-order deal, which would reduce DS liability. IF in fact the price was an error.

        • @ryanj: Tons? Evidence?

        • @apey75: I just enquired at my local DSE; both Times are still in their system at the same price. The store manager wasn't comfortable giving preorders as she didn't have any delivery date whatsoever.

        • @apey75:
I was talking to one of the staff at dicksmith and they said they have a large back order of Mac book pros (I think, or some apple product) and it was because they didn't update the price correctly with the exchange rate and there was an extra 10% on top of it so lots of people ordered one due to that error. I'm guessing the same thing happened to PTS
I wonder how much the PTS will cost when it's released in Aus. No way would it cost $249AUD, Australia always get's ripped off compared to states RRP/average price :P

        • +1

@ryanj: The difference with the DSE and the Target ballsup, it that the DSE price has been in their system for over 6 weeks now, if it was an error it would have been fixed ages ago.

        • @ryanj: A few, not tons. It was also explained to be an error.

        • @barryquinn: what? There's more than a few people on the thread that have preordered. Target's pricing was a mistake, they admitted to that. Who explained DSE's pricing as an error?

        • @jbuttnz: I was replying to @ryanj. I didn't say DSE's price was an error. I said that only a few got the $99 price from target. I had also read the Reddit comments.

        • +1

@jbuttnz: Have you seen this? It might be faster.

          https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/221130#comment-3222606

        • @barryquinn: Difference between DSE and Pebble pricing in AUD is only $30odd even for PTS. Atleast we would have a ETA from pebble. Dealing with DSE is plain annoying.

        • @Ali1988:

definitely, the dicksmith eta is super annoying
the only other difference I can see is the warranty
How does the warranty work when you buy from pebble.com?
guessing with DS you can walk in the store and replace with a new one if your one is faulty (http://www.dicksmith.com.au/warranty-information)

anyway still hoping to walk into the store any day now and pick up my PST :D anyone got updates?

        • @constantly L8: Just called the CBD store. No update. Their system is still showing no ETA.

It's a pity that they can't provide at least some kind of indication on what is going on, but it is what it is I guess.

For those considering a similar course of action, I was advised by my store that I could cancel my order and get my deposit refunded.

        • @apey75: I just went in and cancelled my pre-order. That's probably what DSE wants us to do. I'll buy from Pebble.

        • @apey75:
Hey which CBD store is this? If Melbourne there are 2 and I preordered from Bourke St store.

Considering to buy from pebble but unsure on warranty as well.

        • @so3n: Pebble warranty info for Australia (12 months): https://www.pebble.com/legal/warranties/australia

          Particularly:

To make a claim under this Limited Warranty, you must contact Pebble in the first instance using the following e-mail address: [email protected] within the Warranty Period. Pebble will provide you with a Return Material Authorization (“RMA”) to be used in any subsequent correspondence that you have with Pebble in connection with making a claim under this Limited Warranty. You will then need to return the defective Product, together with proof of purchase, to the address specified by Pebble in connection with the RMA. You are responsible for all costs of claiming under this Limited Warranty.

        • +2

Whilst buying direct from Pebble is fine (and the $AU30 difference quite palatable), bear in mind that the free shipping is listed as taking "several weeks". That's not an especially big issue, but it only takes a quick flick of a switch from DSE to make their stock available and then it's already here and ready for collection, and without the $AU30 extra.

…or it could take another month and you can lord your new PTS over us suckers for weeks to come. :)

PS: Speaking of suckers, am I the only one who had to pay the full amount for my PTS preorder as a 'deposit'?

        • +5

@LineOf7s: I think you were the only one to pay the full amount :p but I bring good news! From Dick Smith's Facebook page: "Dick Smith: Hi Ryan, I have received an update. We are expecting stock to arrive early next week. Will keep you updated. Thanks Amanda #DSHelp"

        • +1

@ryanj: Well I suppose the good news for me is that early next week (perhaps) I'll get a free Pebble. Yay! ;)

          Thanks for the update.

        • @ryanj: Arrive at their distribution centre or at stores?

        • @koganei: Distribution Centre, just asked

        • @ryanj: That means it'll be another week before they make it to stores.

        • @so3n: Bourke St. The store next to Daiso.

        • @koganei: Yep, unfortunately. Might try to push my store to get it priority shipped

        • +6

          GOOD NEWS EVERYONE!
          From Dick Smith's Facebook page:

"Finally good news Ryan. I have confirmation that the item will leave our Sydney distribution centre today and will be delivered to the stores with the next few days. Thanks for your patience. Amanda #DSHelp"

          http://www.news.com.au/finance/business/retail/want-to-be-a-…

It's starting to get to the point where the lack of either product or (proper) ETA from Dick Smith is starting to make me nervous. Give me the Pebble I paid for and then you can crash all you want if that's what you're going to do.

        • +1

@ryanj: Alas. Good stuff. Thanks mate. Since distribution center is in Sydney I am guessing us Sydney siders will get it in a day or 2.

        • +1

@ryanj: This is good. I must've been typing up my last response as you were posting yours.

A Pebble in-hand by the end of the week perhaps? Dare to dream…

        • @LineOf7s: Yep, I hope so. I also read the news of them plummeting, was posted on smh though. They're killin' us here

        • @ryanj: I'll believe it when my PTS is in my hands. =P
