        • @jbuttnz: SHIT!

        • @jbuttnz: Hah, shows up in search for me, but clicking them 404's

        • @ryanj:
awesome! Thanks ryan for the update! which pebble did you go for, PT or PTS? hopefully they were talking about having stock for both as I got the PTS :P

        • @Lem_is_cool: The website is now showing the PT for $199.99, but with no stock available.

        • @constantly L8: I got the gold PTS! think it looks the best out of them all ;) the red and gold is magnificent, just need to get a waterproof strap!

        • @ryanj: I thoroughly enjoy the PTS steel band, crazy comfortable and looks great. The fit is just a bit hit and miss.

        • +1

          @ryanj:
haha, yeah that red and gold looks good. I got the black PTS as to wear with traditional suits. really hoping they'll have the black metal bands, or even better third party straps that add functionality with looks :D

        • @ryanj: Do you actually have it? Website says delivery only, and out of stock.

        • @barryquinn: Not yet. I did go into my store about an hour ago though, and they said it could be there today or by Friday! There's hope yet. I noticed my comment above was a bit misleading too, so sorry about that

        • @constantly L8: third party straps can be bought pretty much anywhere, it's really easy to change the bands apparently! I saw a smartstrap a few months back, where it was handsfree controls of your watch. So, so keen!!

        • +1

@ryanj: It's even in their latest catalogue now: http://catalogues.dicksmith.com.au/catalogue/gifts-for-all/5…

Also still advertised showing the steel band without mentioning it is an optional extra. I will definitely be requesting them to honour the steel band.

        • +1

@koganei: here is a link to an image of the catalog. y'know, just in case ;)

        • +1

          @ryanj:

yeah I think I saw that smart strap, relies on gesture (gyroscopic motion detect), dont know how well/accurate that would work

I really want a smartstrap with extended battery as sometimes I forget to charge and feel so lost without my watch :P

Another useful one would be NFC send and receive! Have your credit card on your wrist and activated at the press of a pebble button. Something convenient and I'd use frequently http://www.wareable.com/smartwatches/pebble-time-to-get-cont…

Probably be awhile before it becomes available

        • @ryanj: Nah, I'll be going to the store to grab a physical copy. =P

        • +1

Pebble time is now available in-store. Still no update on PTS.

        • @Ali1988: Might check it out today, can confirm later. Any word on if you can try it on in store?

        • @constantly L8: 10 days of battery though! How much are you forgetting to charge it? ;)

I'd love NFC, but, y'know, iPhone

        • @ryanj:
haha, that's the thing, battery life is soo long there's no routine in charging and you dont notice until its really low like 20% (which for normal pebble is less than one day). Hopefully when the PTS is at 20% it'll still last the day :P

also I dont like having to take off the watch. I'd like it to be resemble more of a old school watch. I already have too many devices to keep charged frequently

there was also a smartstrap that has a laser pointer :? the slaser
          https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1171859847/slazer-for-p…
hehe, quite gimmicky but looks like it could be fun. however $20-23 USD at this current exchange rate is too much (unless the strap is of really good quality)

        • @ryanj: I am not sure. Will go during lunch time and check it out. I am guessing it would be.

        • +2

Rang the store I ordered from just on the off chance they had stock sooner than I thought they might have (long shot, but it would have been nice).

Not only do they not have stock, but apparently "their computer system" is telling them there is no stock in the Sydney warehouse and he has no idea what was going on with it. Even if they DID have stock in Sydney it takes a week to get stock up to Brisbane.

          So that's… great. frowny face

Given other stores around the country already have stock - despite never having received it into the Sydney warehouse, apparently - hopefully it'll just turn up at my store sometime soon and the guy I was talking to will exclaim "Bugger me! Where'd that come from?" and we can all move on with our lives.

        • +3

Just went to my store in Brisbane and was given attitude by the staff. The ship is sinking and they're not happy.

I asked them to check my order and as usual all they could tell me was they don't know when it'll arrive. I said why advertise something if it's not in-store yet. He then got all defensive and rude saying he's not the one who does the advertising. I was like, yeah, calm down, I know that, I'm not saying it's your fault, but I need more information than just "we don't know", you've been telling me that for the last two months. I never pushed the issue before because it wasn't in your catalogue yet, but now that it is, you have to give me more than that.

Another staff member told him she'd take over, but she wasn't much better. I was told she'd make some phone calls and call me back. I bet you she won't. =P

        • +3

@koganei: I wonder at what point someone - anyone - in Dick Smith checks the prices on http://www.pebble.com , thinks about the fact that those prices are in US dollars, and thinks "Wait a second…"

I'm flabbergasted this has made it this far.

        • @LineOf7s: I'm pretty sure this isn't a price error by now. I reckon they'd still make money on them, just not as much.

Or maybe I'm wrong and it's part of the reason why they're going down…

        • if dick in cash flow trouble, better for them to hold onto our deposits/full payments (in some cases!). dunno.

        • @koganei: My store continues to be adamant that it should be here tomorrow. I guess we'll see. Sorry about your experience :(

        • The DSE website now shows that the black PT is available for C&C at my store, and the silver PTS has disappeared from the website…

        • @ryanj: Any luck with your order Ryan?

I called my store today (Melbourne CBD) and they still had no news other than that it should be in before Christmas.

        • @apey75: Called up and they didn't understand what I was looking for (?), so I'm gonna head in around 5pm

          This sucks

        • @koganei: Seems I can order the PTS Gold to be shipped to my house in 3-5 days…

        • +3
        • @ryanj: Lucky you dude. I went to Central Plaza store for PTS black and they still donno when it's gonna arrive. They have quite a few PT black available for purchase.

        • @Ali1988: Well at least you know they're coming through now!

        • +1

@ryanj: Did you try to get them to include the steel band?

        • @koganei: haha I would love to witness that conversation!

        • @koganei: I don't think I'd have that behind me, my one isn't advertised with the band. I did, however, ask them why it's advertised with the steel band and they said: "Looks very nice. Maybe you can ask the store if they can swap it for you. Amanda #DSHelp"

        • @ryanj: Congrats on your saga being over. :)

Still no sign here of the PTS Black - nor any ETA, nor ETA of an ETA, nor any sign of it on the website - but I did manage to confirm that stores up here that are indicated as having stock of the Pebble Time Black on the website actually do.

          So that's… something, I guess.

I'm about at the point where I'm likely to cancel my order and get a refund, and if once all this talk of going down the gurgler and "suicidal sales" is done maybe they'll have something in stock and I can just walk in and grab it. Maybe.

        • @LineOf7s: Pebble themselves are doing 25% off right now, might be good to take a look at that even?

        • +1

@ryanj: Only 25% on Pebble Time. I want the Steel.

        • @ryanj: congrats! I went to my branch just now at Sydney George St and the guy said they don't have any :/

        • Just went to another DSE and got told it doesn't look like they're getting black PTS anywhere at all…
There's gold in stock at some stores, but black was apparently ordered but no information at the distribution centre.

My DSE store don't even answer their phone at all.

        • @koganei: The guy at my store showed the screen to me and the black one is listed in the inventory as -1 (1 preorder maybe) but it's listed. Gold was -2.

        • @hastetowaste: Yeah, when they take a preorder it reduces the stock count by one (to -1 in my store's case) and when stock gets sent out from the distribution centre it automatically sends at least one out to that store to fulfil that preorder… or so I'm told.

They'd better hope they get the black PTS in stock as it (referred to as "Gun Metal") and Silver are the only two listed in the latest catalogue. Oddly, Gold isn't mentioned as an option… but is currently the only PTS listed on the website.

Anyone else getting the impression Dick Smith couldn't organise a piss-up in a brothel (so to speak)?

        • +2

          @LineOf7s:
To DSE FB page "Any idea when Pebble Time Steel black would arrive to Central Plaza (Sydney) Store. It's over 7 weeks since my pre-order. Thanx"

          Reply

"Hi Idrees, they should be arriving in store this week. Please visit the store for further details. Thanks Amanda #DSHelp"

        • @Ali1988: Thanks for that. There seems to be a bigger gulf between Sydney and Brisbane stores than just their distance - my store didn't even acknowledge they'd been received in Sydney yet - but here's hoping something comes of this.

        • +1

After reaching out the the DSE Facebook page and having the issue escalated to the "store operations team" I've just been advised (by voicemail and follow-up email) that the Pebble Time Steel in Black are expected to arrive in the Sydney distribution centre on Thursday, December 10 2015. I'm promised a further email letting me know when to expect it in-store for collection.

Could this saga be approaching a satisfactory conclusion? Hope springs eternal.

        • A colleague at work just received his PTS Silver. DS still don't have an ETA for the PTS Black. Melbourne.

        • +1

@apey75: good to see they're rolling out. On Facebook dick Smith just said no eta for Adelaide. Guess we're just to far away.

        • +1

@Lem_is_cool: Just picked up my PTS silver from Westfield Marion (Adelaide). Only found out about it's arrival because I rang them. Apparently 3 were pre-ordered but only 2 have arrived so far.

DSE are selling the gold PTS on their website for $211 until the 15th…

          http://www.dicksmith.com.au/mobile-phone-accessories/pebble-…

@ryanj, go ask for a partial refund. =P

        • @koganei: holy shit, how do I go about this? Last year I bought an OG Pebble and they refused to refund me when they put it on sale a day later.

        • +1

@ryanj: Just go back to the store and ask for it. I've done it with Target before, not sure if DSE will do it.
Or you could try to return it and buy it again online. =P

        • @hilly:
Guess I'll attempt to contact the cbd one again tomorrow. Cheers for the info

        • @koganei: All the Steels are only $211 now! Thanks Dick! /s http://catalogues.dicksmith.com.au/offer/specialty-apparel-a…

        • +1

@ryanj: They have still not fulfilled there pre-order commitment on PTS Black and reduced price of it on current catalog. WTF!

Also they have removed PTS Gold from there website.

        • @Ali1988: Absolute shit. Cancel the preorder and buy from the catalogue, I guess :p

Yeah, noticed that. Still going in today and kicking up a fuss. Pretty ridiculous.

        • @ryanj: lol omg haha. please keep us up to date!!

        • +1

          @hilly:

I went to my DS yesterday in Sydney and they said 3 on its way from the distribution center (Syd) so hopefully they'll call today or tomorrow :P

Thanks Ryan and Koganei for the PTS sale link. will be making sure I get for the advertised price (sale started yesterday)

@Ryan Hopefully the guys at your DS store will be nice enough to help you with the difference in sale and purchase price ($39) as store credit or something. However keep in mind they have a no refund policy unless its faulty

Quote: "(d) What should I do if I have changed my mind and want to return a product?

Please choose carefully as Dick Smith does not normally accept return of products where you have simply changed your mind."

          https://www.dicksmith.com.au/shopping-with-us/our-returns-po…

          goodluck buddy

        • @Innocence: The worst part is that I anticipated this to happen. Last year I bought the OG Pebble and it went on sale a few days later and I didn't get a partial refund. You can be sure as shit I will be today

        • @constantly L8: Did see that, I was doing some searching last night. Ah well, hope Dick goes out of business sooner rather than later, and maybe the 3rd pebble will be given to Harvey's or JB

        • @ryanj:

yeah its pretty dick of them to not help you after almost 2 months of waiting for a pre order. maybe write on their facebook page as they probably dont want people to know their pre order system was $hit :P their facebook will most likely help more than the store

Anyways thanks for all the udpates Ryan and sorry to hear about the missed sale

        • @constantly L8: Already messaged them this mornin', when the gold got taken off the site.

Welcome for all the updates, let me know if/when you get yours

        • I noticed the gold disappeared this morning. Even though it's in their catalogue now, it's still dodgy. If you click the "Buy" link on the catalogue, it just goes to a 404 page.

I'll be going into the store today to demand they adjust my pre-order to the new price.

        • @ryanj: Just went to dick smith to check on my order and got them to change my pre-order price. Balance due to them is now $39 less.

        • @ryanj: See, now I was just happily awaiting the stock to arrive in the distro centre today so I could pick it up from my store next week. Now I gotta make the trip to that very store to get my $39 back because I'll be fizucked if I'm paying that much more for the privilege of being jerked around for more than two months.

Thanks a lot, "ryanj", if that IS your real name! ;)

        • @koganei: When I preordered, I asked several times if the price goes down before I got it, if I'd be paying the lowest price. I got a resounding yes so I hope you can gets yours fixed up

        • @LineOf7s: I would be bud, shocking that they can do this to us :(

it is my real name! hope to see you around OzBargain sometime! feel free to say hey! :)

        • Just posted on their FB. This is ridiculous, sick of this crap.

          https://www.facebook.com/dicksmithaustralia/posts/1015437722…

        • +1

@koganei: Just went in and got my refund, dunno if my store did it out of the kindness of their heart or what, but I'm a happy chappy. good luck with everything

        • +1

Got my partial refund (for the difference), no questions asked. They knew. Now all I need is my watch.

        • @koganei: Is it discounted as well? I couldn't find them even on the catalogue.

        • +1

@hastetowaste: They're not mentioned by name, but the stock code for the three colours of Pebble Time Steel are listed explicitly in both the catalogue entry and the extended description: SE9656 / SE9657 / SE6958. For example, SE9657 is "Pebble Time Steel Watch Black" on their system, but someone in marketing keeps calling it "Gun Metal" (which is odd, because Pebble themselves call it black).

In short, all three PTS models are on sale. Which is bizarre.

        • @hastetowaste: It's right here: http://catalogues.dicksmith.com.au/catalogue/dick-smith-cata…

Also on their paper catalogue this week.

Just went into my store, still no info. She showed me the screen, no stores in QLD have any black ones.
They also said they couldn't adjust my order because it's a customer order, not a pre-order, even though I've got $25 deposit on it. But she said I'd get the new price of $211 once it's here and they can generate a proper invoice. I'm holding onto the catalogue just in case…

        • @koganei: That's weird. Mine's paid in full (they wouldn't let me only put a deposit on it) and they've quite happily cancelled and reordered it. Maybe that's the difference: because it was all paid for they had an invoice they could deal with.

As I mentioned earlier, the Blacks were expected in Sydney today. If they do actually turn up, the system will be updated overnight, and tomorrow - if nothing else - someone in DSE should be able to look at the computer and see that they're there.

        • @LineOf7s: She said she could re-order mine, but then the date on the order would be today, so when they try to push for it to be sorted, it'd be less urgent.

        • Called up the Melbourne CBD store while at work today on the off chance that the PTS came in today.

The guy told me they had silver ones in stock to my surprise, so I went in after work to pick it up.

All good and pretty happy. Then I notice from the posts previous that its $211 in catalogue…wtf? Sent them a facebook msg and we'll see what happens.

Anyway at least I got the watch, even for $249 its a good price but if I can get a partial refund even better.

So…whats a good value silver metal band to go with this? I haven't really been doing my reasearch.

        • @so3n: Truffol, direct from them, for USD40.00. Extra for fast shipping.

        • @barryquinn:
Thanks. So there's 3 colours, would the stainless steel one (last one) be the best match for a PTS silver you think?
          https://www.truffol.com/store/smartwatch/pebble_strap/black

        • @so3n: yes, I think. I got the black one for my PTS black.

        • @so3n: They'll just tell you to contact the store manager. Best to head in and get the refund. Also, notice the 10% off Dick Smith that was posted today? Try to get your watch refunded and given the full discount!

        • @LineOf7s: Where in Sydney did you order yours? I went to the George St one a moment ago and the guy behind the corner was like 'not this guy again' and told me there's nothing in the system. He mumbled special order or stuff like that and I left.

        • Went back to store and got refunded the difference without any hassle

        • @hastetowaste: Mine's ordered in Brisbane (Redbank, specifically… which is actually Ipswich).

        • +1

I also got an e-mail today following up on my Fb post:
"I have left a message on your voicemail today to advise that our distribution received stock on 10/12/15 however we do not have an estimated arrival time in stores as of yet."

This is regarding the black one. Let's hope it arrives next week.

        • +3

@LineOf7s: Following up, I've had it confirmed (again, via email) that the stock was in fact received at the Sydney distribution centre on Thursday, December 10. Natasha, of the operations team, expects - but won't commit to - delivery to my store of "this week". We shall see.

I don't understand why if stock was received why there was no obvious change to anything on the computer stock system, but who knows how theirs works.

          Here's hoping for this week.

        • +1

          New development!

The Pebble Time Steel Black is now on the website! http://www.dicksmith.com.au/mobile-phone-accessories/pebble-…

          $349!!!

        • @LineOf7s: All the PT's went up in price too.
They better honour the $211 price.

        • $211 to $349! What is going on??

        • @LineOf7s: FFS just called my store and apparently the order was dispatched in batches. Whilst some PTS Black have arrived, my order is unfortunately in the second batch. :(

        • @jbuttnz:

lol, I knew it was a mistake. I reckon they put it on sale to $211 for people like us who pre ordered the PT/PTS over 2 months ago and its like an in direct "we're sorry" for the delay and messing up the price, have another discount as your product arrives :P

Also got a phone call yesterday afternoon and yay my PTS black has arrived :D
heading off to the store asap. hahah now I can test the battery life myself :)

        • +1

@koganei: I've been assured since Oct 12 that they'll honour it (bearing in mind, I seem to have been the only numpty in Australia that paid in full, so maaaaaybe that might make a difference?). The manager himself told me "It's just the same as if you preordered a TV, and shortly afterward the price went up $100. We wouldn't come chasing you for the $100".

        • +1

@LineOf7s: But this is "if you preordered a TV, and the price went down $100, then went up $200, would you get it at the lowest price when you pick it up?" =P

        • @koganei: Well let's put it this way: whilst they refunded me the $39 when the PTS price dropped to $211, they certainly didn't call to let me know about it beforehand. :)

        • I've spoken to 4 store mangers this month, they all said that the PTS is in their system at $249 which will be its normal retail price. I can't understand how their pricing works, have they realised last minute that they can milk customers for more cash?

        • +2

@jbuttnz: While the PTS was in the computer for $249, that would of course be its normal retail price. Now that price has been corrected.

Bear in mind that this entire time they've been ridiculously UNDERpriced. The $249 is the same price Pebble themselves sell it for, but Pebble's price is in US dollars. Dick Smith should have been selling these things for at least $AU345 all along, and I've been consistently flabbergasted that it's taken this long for someone to realise (let alone discounting that "wrong" price by 15%!).

So no, I don't think they've "realised last minute that they can milk customers for more cash" as much as they've fixed their mistake. I'm happy enough to take advantage of their stupidity, but I'm not going to begrudge them selling it at a more sensible price once they realised.

        • @LineOf7s: I find it near impossible to believe that a pricing mistake would go unnoticed for over 2months. The discount was most definitely deliberate, they can't have accedetally paid to advertise an ever cheaper last minute pre-order price.

        • +1

And now they're down to $291.42 The plot thickens..

  • +1

OK, finally got around to putting a deposit for a black Time Steel. Could see on their system that it comes with leather band and the metal band was optional. Who knows if they will end up selling that as an accessory.
Wonder if should try to acquire the official Pebble Time Steel metal band or try 3rd party?

    • I was pretty sure the one I ordered had a metal band. I would oblige DSE to supply one.

      • Go back to the store and have them look up the item again and read through the detail onscreen. One line says something about the metal band, but at the end it says it's optional/separate.

        • It might now, but did it then? That is the question. The pictures show metal bands.
