saw a negative vote, let's beat him up

Hey there, I'm a bit new to SSD deals. Was wondering how these SSDs stack up to the Sandisk ones quality-wise (in terms of speed and reliability). Any pointers?

  • This or https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/214794? Which one to choose?

    • i will choose sanddisk with free 64gb microsd :)

      • u may $16 extra… obviously not free

  • +2

Thanks TA but i am after 1TB capacity now..

  • Thanks TA. I was after another one for raid. Almost bought from Amazon y-day. Good timing :)

  • 7mm good for Ultrabook?

    • +1

Ultra book could be using the M.2 form factor ssd. Better check before buying

    • +4

Ultrabook may come in m.2 nowadays, so please check first.

i've got these m.2 that i can work out something for you if needed.

      • +1

Rep: Any deals for a 500GB SATA?

      • +1

        I'd love a deal on a 500gb M.2

        • Are you using a laptop or PC? Assuming you are using one of the more recent PC motherboards with an M.2 PCI-E 3.0 x4 slot….best to reserve that M2 slot for the next gen NVMe SSDs which is at least 5 times the speed of current gen.

If you are a lappie user, just ignore what i said above

        • @KaTst3R: Yeah using a laptop, 250gb ain't cutting it anymore

  • Great price. Not sure how they rate now with the Samsung SSDs.
Any luck of getting Intel NUC deals on the new models Rep? interested in buying the i5 model. Not to say to have deals on M2 and low voltage RAM.

    • The samsung 850 has better controller but also costs a bit more

  • Any chance for 64gb or 128gb micro sd deals TA?

  • Fantastic price, anyone who doesn't have an SSD already, point them this way.

  • +1

Thanks TA - I told myself I would buy one of these on Satarseday. Looks like that day has come!

  • Can I install this into my MacBook Pro (13-inch, Late 2011)?

    Specs: 2.4 GHz Intel Core i5, 4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3, Intel HD Graphics 3000 384 MB

Sorry I'm a complete noob with this stuff..

  • +1

Hello arse man I'm after a 500GB 850 evo, anything in the works?

  • +2

Starting to think ARSE stands for Awesome Rep Shopping Express lol

so many good deals, keep up the good work

  • Wow nice timing, glad I check OB today. Thanks TA.

  • SE, I've been watching your deals for any of these drives to go on sale, hope
they come up soon. We may need a 'SE's Most Wanted' voting system

    WD Red
    WD Red Pro
    Sandisk Extreme Pro SSD
    Samsung 850 Pros
    Hitachi drives

    • Did you miss this post from 2 weeks ago?

      • Nope, I saw they were offering Reds but I wanted to see if there's any upcoming deal for Hitachi or Red Pros.

  • Is this a better drive compared to the Sandisk Ultra II in earlier post?

    • +1

I wondered that. Turns out this uses MLC vs the sandisk TLC [explanation: see http://www.tomsitpro.com/articles/flash-data-center-advantag… ]. The Sandisk is slightly faster on paper, so if you wanted to sit there with a stop-watch, you'll be pleased you got the Sandisk ~ 60% more often. The sandisk also looks like it is good for ~ 12 years, whereas this is going to be slowing down in about 9 on the same theoretical benchmarks, so if you are looking at your 512 Mb Sd cards and wishing you'd got the slightly flasher one nine years ago, the same heartbreak awaits you in the future if you get this.
You gain 10 Gig with this, but miss out on a 64 GB micros SD by not getting the Sandisk - minus petrol costs and waiting time at your local MSY.
It is a newer drive, but for everything that matters, about the same. It does use less power than most others this size which may be the decider for many people.

      • +1

Thanks for the detailed explanation and also reminding me the waiting line in MSY…

  • Any deals coming up on internal hard drives, I don't want SSDs anymore!!

  • Got my EVO 500gb from this deal
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/213274

    Lappy is super fast now!

  • Amazon has this for ~ AUD $80 with the Amex promo. Can't buy 2 of them in the same transaction though, so you have to buy something else to meet the $100 USD minimum.

Probably the cheapest ever for a 250GB class SSD.

Maybe should make a separate deal… but not sure given the $100 minimum

  • Thanks OP - good post, bought 1.

  • Can anyone confirm if I can put this SSD in the ASUS PC posted on ozbargain last week?

  • any Lenovo basic i3 processor laptop deal?

  • I got one of these with the last express offer …… seems to be just as fast as the evo850 and my crucial mx ….. so it was a cheap way to speed up my Acer I5 laptop.

    Keep the deals coming tightarse.

If people are really concerned about speed, the 500GB is fast then the 250gb due to how the bus works with the chips used ….. shows up on paper but not real in use.

Now to hang the old 128gb drive off the android tv box ….. need to find a use for the upgrade left overs.

  • Thanks TA, have been looking for a good SSD for games.

    Cheers!

  • thanks OP
