    wow excellent deal!

I can't believe movie tickets are 17 dollars for adult now! - jaw dropping stuff.

I'll prolly buy 6-8 of these.

    Thanks!

  • Any good movies coming out before March 24?

The Road & Alice in Wonderland standout to me.

    • Invictus came out today, Morgan Freeman as Nelson Mandela with Matt Damon playing union whilst Clint Eastwood is directing! A great line up indeed, plus it would be funny hearing Matt Damon impersonating the South African accent lol.

  • Does anyone know when you can start redeeming them? I'm gueesing the 4th?

    • +1

You can redeem them today if you want.

  • So buy now watch anytime till March 24 ?
    OR only between 4 Feb - 24 March ??

    • Fair point - has anyone purchase the discounted ticket, then redeemed it for a session prior to the 4th of Feb? Thanks

      • Yes you can. I just reserved two seats to Sherlock Holmes this Saturday (23rd Jan).

  • Great find, thanks

What's the friend and family thing?

    • +2

They've done it before…they're just trying to make it sound like it's more exclusive I guess.

      • +1

Yeah agreed lots of other companies do it too, just a strategy/tactic to increase exclusiveness

    • +7

Honestly, why would you want to sit in a dark movie theatre with dozens of people all around you beating off?

    • +7

Do you post this comment every time there's a cinema-related bargain posted? I swear you made the same comment last week.

      • -3

ye bre it is a lajitamite question.

  • seems no Avatar 3D in Melbourne, but still very good find.

    • You can't use them for 3D movies.

  • -5

    cough torrents cough

    • action and horror movies way better in cinema

    • I've got nothing against torrenting movies, but if you're not going to get off your duff and pay for a movie at the cinema every now and then, there won't be any damn movies being made!

      • I can only imagine watching a fakey version of avatar online lol..

        Horrid would be the word

        • haha I know right.. It's bad enough that people like my nan and pop went and saw it in 2D, but 2D and video recorded would be terrible.

    • +1

torrents are old… cough rapidshare ;)

  • gr8 post mate … thanks…

  • Awesome post mate, thanks!

  • just bought four tickets, great post mate.

  • wonder if there is a way to combine this with the Mitchum 2 for 1 which I got lately?
ie. 2 for 1 paying only $7.50 total.

  • I tried to get tickets BUT when I went to the payment screen it asked for a PIN number…

    I wasn't given pin numbers …just codes..

Is there some other way of using them?

    • +1

When you have first selected the Movie and time there is a screen where you select how many adult and how many childrens tickets on this screen there is a red area marked family & friends tickets you must click there once you do it will ask for your tokens.

      • thanks for that…

  • Nice one - i'm buying heaps

  • just bought 6 tickets for macquarie centre and 4 for george st, best bargain for a regular movie watcher like myself

  • +1

great find thanks. will buy some for the long wkend

  • +2

These tickets are redeemable as of now you don't have to wait for after the 3rd. Also please be aware myself and 3 friends used this promotion last year out of the three of us one was double charged it took 4 weeks to refund the money, so make sure you check your credit card transactions afterwards.

  • just bought 10 tickets for macquarie centre!!! thanks!

  • Does the standard $1 booking fee come in when purchasing initially or when claiming? or never

    • Never, when you select to use them the fee does show but the $7.50 total doesn't change so I would suggest that they are putting it through there system as $6.50 plus $1 booking fee.

Just noticed that page is not secure and is accepting credit card payments.
    Cannot see a SSL certificate.
    Not proceeding until SSL secure.

    • It's a httpS address, and is verified and uses on 128bit encryption on some elements on the page (presumably the ones that handle your personal info!)

      • -1

Where are you seeing its verified.
Other secure sites show the SSL certificate applied but this site is not

BTW: just because its a https address doesn't actually mean its secure

    • Ok, I can see the certificate now.
Only accepted secure parts of the page.

  • Cool! Thanks :)

But what's the "CSC code" (last field on the form)? It has a "what's this" link next to it, but it's broken.

    • The 3 digit code at the back next to your signature

      • Ohhhhhhhh, that code. Doh! With so many promotion/discount codes going around OzBargainville, I was thinking it was something like that. Sorry.

        Thanks :)

  • links dead :(

    • No… it's fine.

  • thanks Melmac77…. We've already used a couple of our tix. Great for movies you might be a bit 'iffy' about seeing.

    • and no +ve?

      • I'm new to this site. Check it out…a big +ve…

        • oh ok, sorry
          well then A BIG WELCOME!!!
there is a + and a - under the post to the left, that's where u vote positive for a good deal or negative for a bad deal

  • ummm when i click the link to use the family an friends code it doesnt work…..

  • wow good find, espc since student mondays are now $7bucks + $1 booking fee…and yes you can buy it at the counter and save that dollar but get some dodge seats….though with that said alot of cases where people dont respect allocated seating…but yes….fantastic find..

  • +ve! just bought 5 for now..gonna get more before expiry date!

this cinema has no allocated seating?

  • -ve . why isnt there any good movies for Melbourne city cinemas?

  • +3

This should be the normal price. They're charging us double what they do in America.

    • They're only pushing people towards pirated movies by charging $17 a head!

Can't imagine having a few kids and a missus. After popcorn I'd be down $100!

  • +1

Great find! I just bought a few tickets and redeemed them straight away for an online purchase. They didn't charge the usual $1 per ticket online charge either!

  • damn! why limited shows and crappy times

    • +1

You can see any session except for 3D ones..

      • still not many good ones at melb cinemas :(

  • great post, hey is there any way, can we directly buy these tickets from cinema ticket counter?

  • Do they ever ask you to show your credit card whenever you redeem your tickets?

    • No. Why? Committing credit card fraud? ;)

(or maybe you're sending the kids off. that would seem more logical.)

  • +2

Received an e-mail (and I verified on the website) that you now have until midnight 5th Feb to purchase tickets.

    • Confirmed here also.
Have updated the title, description and expiry date accordingly.

  • Looks like this one has been extended! I just got an email and this is on the link now:

  • Does anyone know from experience, if 'Silverscreen' is considered a 'special event session'

  • Ergh, I accidentally bought two codes for Indooroopilly rather than Inaloo beacuse I was trying to book a movie in a hurry. Anyone want to buy them off me?

  • Help ozbargainers, a friend of mine I told about this deal redeemed a few codes he had already purchased, but forgot to put an email address in the email box. It threw an error but the transaction went through anyway because the codes were now shown as used up when he retried the transaction. So he doesn't have his confirmation email. The contact us link doesn't work.

Is there any way to have that email resent? Is there a page somewhere you can enter your used-up code and have the email resent? Wouldn't people accidentally enter the wrong address or who have spam filters that bounce email also have the same problem of losing the confirmation?

Update: my friend has found the Help page, but he'll still have to speak to a human. But it seems an error-prone system I must say.

    • Where is the help page? that may be useful to me too.

      • My friend said to pass this info on:

"Go to the URL http://www.eventcinemas.com.au/help and click on one of the "more topics" links. There will then be a link "Still need help? Click Here to Contact Us" which will take you to a web form to fill out."

As for his booking, he said:

"I received an e-mail from Event Cinemas Macquarie with the booking reference, and the promise to pass my description on to IT."

A group of us are going to the film, so I hope our tickets will be waiting for us. Fingers crossed.

        • I have the same problem yesterday, and filled out a form but haven't heard from them. Did your friend have any luck?

  • Thanks ViperDude.
I rec'd the cinebuzz email also and just bought 4 codes.
We did the same last year when they ran this offer.
I makes the normally outrageously overpriced GU tickets comparable with the Balmoral/Hawthorn/Southbank (Brisbane) cinemas.

    "I like to watch",
    Jean-Luc.
