Wow.. that's going to be ozbargained within 5 mins. MSY don't exactly carry abundances of stock.

  • really want to get Patriot Blast :)

    i think you mean Blaze

    average speeds on those btw

    • +3

"Blast" is what's shown in the piccie & description. Here's a link to the 240GB version, which will also be available for $102.
      http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820220…

      • oh. crikey!

i thought its a type. thanks for correction

    • Would this ssd be ok for os or would I be better off getting a better brand? Any suggestions? (My old 64gb ssd just died)

      • +1

I got a Blaze from them and the Blast appears to be an upgrade. Honestly, the blaze I got runs fine. It runs Windows 8.1 on a basic setup but definitely does not struggle. Very quick boot speeds and snappy application loading times. IMHO good value but if you could get a brand name for only a few extra dollars, not saying you can but if you could, then I'd still go for the brand name one.

        • i got a blaze on one of those sale,

felt its kinda average in my windows gaming box, thats comparing to Ocz and Kingston,

recently i got a Samsung Evo 850 - honestly, i would never get anything else now that ive experienced that.

thats just my experience, but the blaze is not in my PC anymore lol

        • @millusions:
Oh, I'm not comparing it to anything brand name, hence my comment :) However, if there is a significant price difference between a Patriot and something else, if it is just for average computer use, then I can't see anything wrong with these drives. I'm not talking about gamers or anything like that either. Just average use.

        • +1

Yeah it's $55 or nearly double for a better brand (e.g., Intel 535), but if the Newegg reviews are any indication (http://www.newegg.com/global/au/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N8…), I don't know if it'll be worth the risk! Assuming there's a failure within the warranty period, what's MSY/Patriot like when it comes to returns?

        • @tessel: Yeah I only intend to buy it for light use though not gaming (mainly browsing and word processing)

        • @traash:

look mate, thats always the initial thinking - this will do me.
the reason im saying this to you is because the price different is so small its hardly worth saving the 10$.
          thats just my thoughts.

its not 55$ nor double, lol

but have a google, Samsung has set a benchmark with their hard drives

anyway, ive said what i wanted to say, not really up for debating SSD/speeds/prices,
          its your choice mate

        • @traash:
Let's be honest. A normal hard drive would be fine for word processing and browsing. As you can see from my comments and millusions, it comes down to personal preference. I have a Samsung 840 EVO in my own PC and would not use a Patriot because I do a lot of gaming. The Patriot I purchased is in a bog standard web browsing and word processing PC used by other family members. However, for your use a HDD would be fine. Why not go for something like this: SanDisk 120GB Plus Solid State Drive I see them for $64 at Umart. Costs more, yes, but not that much more. Are they as good as Samsung? Most likely no, but at least it is in the middle ground somewhere.

        • @millusions: Thanks for the advice, I'll look into the Samsungs

@tessel: and the SanDisk as well!

I guess with my SSD suddenly dying, being on Austudy, and also being an Ozbargainer I was ready to pull the trigger for whichever SSD won the race to the bottom! However with your suggestions I will look at other options and aim to go down the 'middle path' :D

        • @traash:

do the Samsung mate, because you deserve it :)

trivia - Samsung Pro SSD has 5 year warranty

        • @millusions:

Pro comes with 10 years warranty
Evo comes with 5 years warranty

  • That 64GB microsd wow, I don't even need it but I'll go have a look :(

    • +7

      I think it's a full size SD.

      • +1

Thanks for clarifying that, I was planning to buy one, but not now :)

      • +1

Thanks, the title was fixed :(

      • +1

Ahh thanks for the clarification, I too was pumped.

        SD Card…meh lol

      • that's crap then.

        microsd is more versatile

  • +1

Very good price, hopefully they have some stock available at my local store. thanks OP.

  • will 128gb have special price too?

  • +3

Title is wrong, it's not a MicroSD, its a regular SD card.

That 240gb SSD for $102 is a damn good deal though. Finally getting close to the <$100 point for 240/256gb
No idea how the 'blast' is, i know the 'blaze' is pretty good.

    • can't find any info on the NAND controller type.

the last Patriot I had died abruptly due to panic lock from the SF controller :(

  • +5

    IT'S NOT A MICRO IT'S FULL SIZE SD…
Got me excited for a minute!

    • +4

me too, although it was considerably less than a minute and now i have to clean it up….

    • So can it be assumed that it would be faster than the EVO microSD? I do T think my camera cares about the size but it does the speed.

      • If you primarily want to use in your digital camera, then just get this SD card, it is a very good price. SD card is usually cheaper than its equivalent microSD card. Speed wise no not much difference between them.

  • +1

Never got any stock every time these kind of promotion for me from MSY. :(

  • I wonder how the DSL-2877AL will perform in using Netflix. Any reviews?

    • I'd go for a tplink

      • which model?

        • +1

D5, D7, D9. They're all good. I've been using D5 (paid $105) for past 9 month and nexflx streaming over wireless is awesome. Never cuts out. No buffering.

        • @Gavman: are gigabit AC routers all around the $100 price point? in not rush to get one as nothing in the house can receive AC at the moment but wouldn't mind upgrading eventually, just trying to work out if its worth jumping on this price or not?

        • +1

They probably start around the $80 mark but for a decent unit more $120-250. I got the D5 as it was $105 on sale (back then) and it was pretty much everything a D7 was and 40% cheaper. after 9 month my decision seems vindicated.

To my knowledge AC uses 5ghz spectrum. While its capable of higher throughput, its range and antenna strength is inferior to N over 2.4Ghz. Most of those I know using AC wireless especially in a larger environment use extenders to amplify signal through walls.

That being said you wouldn't realise any greater speed or performance in Australia using AC over N for ADSL2+ speeds and I would prefer N anyways for its range and signal strength.

If you are looking to upgrade, AC wouldn't be my reason for doing so. It would be other things like device stability, support or even newer technologies that can stabilise/enhance/strengthen wireless capability. End of the day, a standard $40 wireless modem/router N-300 will offer the same internet speeds as a 300 dollar wireless AC modem even with all its bells and whistles.

My recommendation is if you have a couple hundred to spend the TP-Link D9 is a good choice.

  • Wow. I have a bunch of SD and microSD cards now, and they're all just lying around in a drawer. Can anyone recommend something to store them in? Something that fits in a wallet would be perfect.

  • So.. is that hdmi cable.. 30 meters? Thats not a typo is it?

    • For $54 id assume so

      • +1

Always been told that cheap HDMI brands is fine for short distances but not really for long.
Can anybody shed any light on what kind of quality of signal one could expect over 30m from a cheap(er) cable?

        • +1

According to our supplier, 30m is pretty much the limit for HDMI cable.

        • +1

I'm using the 20m Cablelist flat HDMI cable from MSY - it didn't work between my unplugged ASUS laptop HDMI out and projector (Sony HW40ES), but worked fine between my media player and the projector.

I would recommend testing it out between your intended source and output, before unravelling the whole thing.

        • @hung861988:
if it's a passive cable, I'd love to see their certification for a 30m HDMI cable at "high speed HDMI" standards.
          Active cables are different.

      • +3

@cheesecactus: A quick little run down for you, over a year ago the HDMI standard was restricted to being manufactured at a maximum of 15m presumably due to signal strength not being able to be garnteed to maintain beyond this length. Any products manufactured in excess of 15m are not officially licensed/certified HDMI products, this however does not mean they will not function, HDMI signal can be amplified via on-board amplification chips (Directional Cables) and powered signal boosters.

Without this you also may be able to get signals transmitted in excess of 15m dependent on the cables AWG gauge (the lower the number the thicker (better) the cable), 32AWG is fine for short distances and 28AWG for medium for longer distances you'd want to be using a 26AWG or 24AWG cable. Cheap Chinese cables often are 32AWG even for long lengths or a combination of some parts 28AWG and some 24AWG (usually passing the entire cable off as 24AWG).

In my personal experience a proper 24AWG HDMI cable with a amplified HDMI splitter will work without a hitch, when our dollar was good you would expect to pay $60-$70 for a 20m HDMI cable of this quality, these days you'd be looking at around $110.

The above information is not to be taken as gospel, it's my recount of information I have learnt in the past few years from finding a way to split foxtel IQ2 HD through the house via HDMI, since then I have done it for friends and friends of friends for a small fee successfully, so if this knowledge helps then it was worth the quick 10min I took to throw it together, goodluck

        • +1

          Great post yacman :)

        • +1

          @Blackrose: Thanks!

@MepsiPax: Sorry my reply was tagged to the wrong person the above was meant for you.

        • Is the gauge really that important? For example with ethernet cable, twisted pair allows for high data rates by stopping interference.

        • @brenwildman: if you cut open a cat5 cable and a cat6 cable you will find that cat6 is a larger gauge wire than cat5. It does make a difference in allowing the bandwidth to travel greater distances.

  • OP, description for DLink AC wifi is wrong. Its AC600 not AC500.

        self pleasure?

About time a deal for a full-size SD card came around.

    • Indeed just hope my sister can get me one from the Geelong store.

  • Brilliant timing might bag a few sd cards for the camera.

  • Will the SD card work in a raspberry pi?

    • RP2 only has microsd card slot.

      • I have the older version with sd card slot.

        • So it should work.

  • MSY really need to add the ability to purchase online for all of their stores.

  • It says Samsung SDHC but the card is SDXC.
I can't believe this mistake happens on their website.

    • So SDXC vs SDHC, which one is better?

    • they are IT retailer but their website doesn't look like a professional website at all

      • not having a good website or good customer service is how they keep their prices down though.

        • pretty much is an excuse. good website could bring more customer vice versa. Customer service vary between staff I think. I've never had a really bad experience with them

      • You shoulda seen it before their recent update.

Think primary school kid attempting html for the first time.

    • +1

i Can believe, they are pretty clueless about computers.

  • +1

I always wonder when do their deal of the day start. it's already monday

  • I am looking for Samsung Pro 64gb SDXC!

  • +1

    Still showing $39.00

    • They don't open till 10am.

  • +3

I have window shopped and attempted to buy many times, only to give up as the site is way to hard to complete the transaction for the deal you are after.

    • +1

even if they had free shipping i'd still drive the half hour to my nearest store instead..

  • So for people in WA, the sale prices will show up at 10am WA time?

    • +1

I don't think it shows the new price anywhere yet. I changed store to VIC and still $39 for the SD.

      • Same here, changed it to NSW, still $39

        • Have patience…it's not 10 yet.

        • +1
