  • I'm not a big follower of flybuys, but I think this may be relevant,
    http://www.lifehacker.com.au/2012/05/why-the-new-flybuys-is-…

I remember someone spending about $50k and being able to get a free toaster!! Plus, selling of your data to 3rd parties as a side benefit.

I find it great, I am able to get theme park tickets for the family each year, so your argument of spending 50k to get a toaster doesn't work out. I get offers but if you don't want it, just delete the email. I always use the triple points and double points to make the most of it and have never bought anything extra to get more points. We just get what we always buy each week and have managed to get the points.

I prefer Coles to shop at. Flybuys is just a bonus for me. I usually get a $50 voucher every 2 months.

      • Assuming no bonus points from credit cards or these types of offers, you would have to be spending $10,000 at Coles every two months!

        • Nope. have 3 lots of insurance with Coles.
Petrol at Coles x 3 cars
have my partner and sister who use a linked card.

So all in all, probably between 3 of us, we spend quite a bit at Wesfarmers stores. Including the odd bonus point schemes they run

You shouldn't really sign up to any loyalty program and expect to be able to spend a small amount to get reasonable reward. That's not how these programs work. You shouldn't spend extra to try and get extra points either.

How you "win" is by doing 2 things:

      • Buying things you'd be buying anyway and getting points from that
      • Knowing how to maximise your points earn by knowing which cards to use to pay, or knowing which loyalty program to credit a transaction to (this is more relevant for credit cards with different bonus points at different merchants) - also on things you'd be buying anyway.

If you're getting swayed into buying Coles Chocolate Cookies that you never intended to buy anyway just because they're offering you 20 bonus points (which is $0.10, by the way), then you're doing it wrong

If you value your "info" that much, then I guess you wouldn't involve yourself at all.

      • Exactly. We buy our normal groceries and nothing extra but maximise the points with bonus points (and for the last few months, using it when filling up the work cars)

    • A $50k spend would be a minimum value of $250. So either a really expensive toaster, or they didn't spend $50k. Now add to that the "bonus" offers like double and triple points, plus bonus points on particular items, it is likely that $50k spend would return closer to $300. Again, thats a pretty expensive toaster.

  • So.. $4 a ride then

Flybuys are garbage, the points worth a paltry 0.5c each. So it's spend $100, get $5 back.

  • Thanks for the heads up, Op. Would you be able to post the terms and conditions? I am using android, the target app doesn't have the offers in android so I can't see the terms and conditions for this.

    Thanks.
