  • Does Kogan still exclude GST on their invoices?

My bro is going to Japan in a few weeks and has been planning to get an iPhone 6… great for claiming TRS but I've read that Kogan don't show GST on their invoices in the past.

    Thanks.

    • The only time i ever seen them show GST is when you buy kogan branded product.

Thanks for the input mate. Guess we might skip this deal.

If my maths is right, a combination of discounted gift vouchers bought through my bro's work, gift vouchers from Velocity (thanks to points from the Amex velocity deal) and TRS works out cheaper still. So need to spreadsheet this one.

Once you add the benefit of an apple backed warranty and statutory guarantees it will be a no brainer.

          @Olokun: Good point.

All retailers currently have the 64Gb iphone 6 at $1079. We'll wait for a 10% off sale weekend at JB bringing the price down to $971.10 assuming they don't jack up the price beforehand, and use discounted gift cards.

Or, if one does not have any discounted gift cards - use a 5% price beat at OfficeWorks?

Does Kogan still exclude GST on their invoices?

There are two separate businesses selling via the Kogan.com.au web site and via the Kogan eBay store.

On is "Kogan Pty. Ltd." which is an Australian business.

The other is "Kogan HK Limited" which is a Hong Kong based business.

Anything purchased from "Kogan HK Limited" will not have a GST Invoice as the buyer/importer (not the seller) is liable for any Tax imposed on importation.

You brother should be able to buy an iPhone (that is not carrier locked) from the Apple Stores in Japan. If he shows his Passport/Visa he should be able to avoid the 8% Japanese GST. Japanese iPhone prices are not too bad.

      I hope this helps.

The 16GB 6S is in relation to the 64GB version far better priced. But 16Gb will require a few compromises …
Ah well. Lets keep my old 5S for a year longer. No need to upgrade. My existing phone does what it is supposed to do.

    • It's a pity apple didn't make a 32Gb model. But I agree, the 5S is plenty good still. I have one for work and the battery life and stability is much better than my Lumia 920. I do like WinPhone GUI and the larger screen of the Lumia 920 more.

Maybe it's even a good thing … they will not sell a lot and we will soon have a real bargain. At $500 I might snap one up … ;-)

I agree. However, I think it is highly unlikely that Kogan HK has many, if any, iPhones actually in stock.

Please take this into consideration when comparing prices, and savings, with buying local Australian market iPhones.

"Phones and tablets sold by Kogan.com are network unlocked, international models."

"Kogan is not affiliated with the manufacturer of this product in any way. This Product is an international model imported directly from internationally based distributors. This Product may differ in some respects from other similar products available from local retailers in various countries around the world."

"This Product is offered and supplied by Kogan HK Limited pursuant to the Terms and Conditions."

    In other words:-

You may receive a Hong Kong Market iPhone (same bands etc. as Australian Market Models)
    OR
You may receive a USA Market iPhone, which depending upon the model - may not be compatible with all LTE/4G bands used in Australia.

In any case, your iPhone will most likely not be eligible for warranty and out of warranty support from Apple Australia. You will also miss out on the Australian Consumer Guarantee that would cover your iPhone for at least two years.

I am not saying that at times a Kogan HK supplied iPhone is not a good deal - just that you must take all risks into consideration when determining the saving.

    • Are you sure about the warranty?
I recently rang apple support and asked them
"If I buy an ipad from Hong Kong" am I eligible for support here in Australia
The guy replied yes sire, you are eligible for both phone and shop support in Australia regardless where you purchased your ipad from..

Ipad and laptop have a different story to phone.

There is no "international warranty" of any sort on the iPhone. Each iPhone is, as has been said many times in many threads here and on many other web sites, specific to the country in which the iPhone is purchased. That is stated in the warranty statement for the iPhone as well. So for a US iPhone, you will indeed have to send it to someone you know in the US to take or send to Apple and then send it back to you.
        Regards.

        • you will indeed have to send it to someone you know in the US to take or send to Apple and then send it back to you.

Rather a costly and perhaps risky proposition. As one can't send an iPhone via international mail,

As highdealer already commented. iPhones, and iPads with cellular capability, have different warranty conditions than any other Apple products.

Nice that the Apple Support staffer called you "sire".

16GB iPhones shouldn't be published here unless they are under $400…
