This is the new updated Onda V820W 8" tablet that has just been released a month ago. Comparing with some of previous deals, it has

  • Updated to Intel Cherry Trail Atom X5-Z8300 Quad Core
  • Windows 10
  • No more Android dual-boot

Banggood has it at $98.99 where most other places (TinyDeals, GearBest, GeekBuying) are on-sale at $99.99. Pretty much the same spec otherwise comparing to the previous-gen V820W (except cheaper at launch):

  • 2GB DDR3
  • 32GB MMC
  • 8" IPS at 1280x800
  • 2MP cameras
  • 802.11b/g/n
  • 4200mAh battery

Z8300 CPU performance wise is similar to the older Z3735F but (1) GPU is significantly faster (2) 14nm should theoretically use letter power. TinyDeal still has the older Z3735F-based Onda V820W on sale for $89.99 USD with Win8.1.

Interesting, unfortunately still 1280x800 resolution. On windows 8, the virtual keyboard will take half the screen with this resolution, and you can't adjust the size to be smaller. Anyone know if they fixed this on windows 10?

would be nice if it has 3GB ram. But for the price, I can't complain much.

I'm curious how much hotter it runs as most Cherry Trail seems to be running hotter that Bay trial series.

Edit: just found some useful comparison between X5-Z8300 and Z3735F. http://www.cnx-software.com/2015/08/23/intel-atom-z3735f-vs-…

TLDR: not much differences. CPU processing power around the same, GPU somewhat more powerful. Also, the new one supports HEVC/H.265 hardware support & 4k output.

    • Bay trail is fairly old now isn't it?

  • Looks very tempting.
Just out of interest is this a special or pre-release price or just the best deal in town?

  • Sorry for the stupid question, but can I play android games with this without using emulator?

It's Win10 only — no dual boot into Android. The older Z3735F based one has dual boot to Android 4.4 which you can then install Android games.

^ This. I asked Chuwi and they said that it's only Windows 10, but that'll likely change if there is a demand for it. The Chuwi Hi8 already has Win10 and Android 5.0 ROMs available.

You could try loading an android emulator like Nox.

  • This or Chuwi Vi8?

The Chuwi's equivalent, Hi8 Pro that's also Z8300 + Win10, should be coming out soon. Presale everywhere. It seems the initial release has no Android dual-boot either. However Hi8 Pro has Full HD screen for about $10 more — I think it might be preferred by some.

      • I'll be a little disappointed if the Hi8 Pro drops Android. It's not clear to me whether it will or it won't.

A couple pre-release articles suggested it might be Dual Boot but the aliexpress page only mentions Windows 10. Note that it says Dual Boot in the URL though! I wonder if that is just an error from copy-pasting a previous-gen Hi8 model…

  • Good find OP, after buying many mainstream tablets with ordinary specs, I have better interest for chinese tablets now.

For anyone interested, I recommend TechTablets it's a review website that reviews many chinese tablets, and I think he's an Oz/Nz guy too. After watching many of his videos he does quality reviews compared to others who just do basic reviews.

    • They also put up new ROMs on their site with instructions so you don't need to read a translated baidu page. Site is run by 6 people too, but one guy probably does the vids.

  • Might still be too early for a review but I'd love to know the real world battery life and standby times..

  • So sad to see Intel only winning designs mainly from yumcha chinese brands.

Since they don't release in Aus, I'm unable to test them. I really want to put that processor to the test before I spend money on it.

If Windows 10's desktop interface is good enough for a mobile OS, makes me wonder why they bothered with that polarizing Windows 8 tile experience. I thought the whole reason it went tiles was because desktop wasn't optimal for tablet use. As a result, desktop Win 8 got gimped. But seems it's fine for mobile now…
