As a Spaniard, and therefore an expert on olive oil :) , I can assure you this is good oil.
Don't think I've ever seen it this heavily discounted. Not sure how Coles are doing it but this is around half the price sold by most deli's around Melbourne.

Not sure how much olive oil one person/family likely to use in a year or so. But oil does go rancid.

it is depend how big is your family member, if you are just a single person, 1 lt might take months to finish. but for a big family, it might take 1 week.
According to your first link, a good olive oil can keep for 3 to 4 years in good storage situations.
I can verify that. I've kept Carbonell olive oil in the tin, in the dark, cool back of a cupboard. I only bring it out to fill the oil bottle. 2 years later, when it's just been finished up, it tastes almost as good as a newly purchased oil.
I use olive oil for frying, for salads, and for a topping on greek yoghurt (great as a dip with lebanese bread or jatz). I use it quite often, and it's taken me 2 years to get through 4 litres. After that time, it lacked that bitter aftertaste, which is a strong sign of high levels of antioxidants, and freshly pressed olive oil. It was still in great condition, though, and had a pleasant and smooth taste.
