  • just a quick one is this including GST??

    • should be

      • should be but i find that when you go on the optus web page and look at plans they are advertised without GST.

so in theory my myplan plus 8gb data is $50 which is really $50 + GST + paper bill of $2.

        • +2

Pretty sure no business is allowed to advertise prices exclusive of GST to consumers. Link
I highly doubt Optus is breaking the law on this.

        • @ProspectiveDarkness:

they dont state the GST component of the bill, not listed in the PDF or the nitty gritty link so i they are not playing ball…

        • @Hotkolbas:

I did a live chat with a representative, and they said it is GST inclusive.

        • @ProspectiveDarkness:

im about to live chat and find out why im getting charged GST for my bills.

        • +1

          @Hotkolbas:

Your bills don't get GST on top of the monthly commitment amount; the advertised price is GST-inclusive. For example, I'm on the $50 plan…the bill says $45.45 plus $4.54 GST.

        • +1

          @Hotkolbas:

The plan prices are inclusive of GST (i.e Optus is not charging 50 + 5 + 2.20 as your example may suggest if I interpreted it correctly ).

However got to admit that Optus Bills are confusing compared to their competitors and would do well with a makeover .. as some totals are inclusive while most components are exclusive of GST

        • @Hotkolbas:

It should be inclusive of GST as its to consumer.

        • The prices are inclusive of GST, so $50/month plan is really $45.45/month + GST.

Don't forget the $150 credit when signing up for 24-month plan and adding it to an existing Optus plan or SIM-only service. More details here: http://www.optus.com.au/shop/promotions/extra-service?SID=co…
    Offer expires 01/11/2015

    • +1

i've been on the sim only plan for a few weeks, so wont qualify :/

      • +1

Try. I'm still missing 5 days until my first month ends but will be eligible. Their representative signed me up and ensured that I'll be receiving the $150 credit. I think Optus needs to make sure you had an existing service with them and didn't signed up just for the sake of the credit. Let us know how you went this.

        • said I could have it if I got new number, not sure I want the hassle of updating my number everywhere :/

thinking long and hard about it lol

        • @Trantor: Fair enough

    • What can you do with $150 credit if you already have unlimited calls + texts?

      • +3

don't pay your bill for a few months +

        • Oh so it's essentially $150 off the total contract? I thought it was just some extra credit for internet or international calls etc.

      • +1

        It's actual dollars credit

      • What can a computer do with a lifetime supply of calls and text.

    • +2

I asked (on live chat) if there was a way to take advantage of this $150 offer even though I have no other Optus services, and this is what the operator came up with:

Optus: "If you go for the Nexus 6P on $60 plan and add Data Sim only plan for $10 so, that you can get $150 credit"
Me: And could I cancel the $10 data sim after the first month?
Optus: You'll have to keep it active till you receive the credit though… it will be credited on the first month or in the second"

So, paying an extra $10 or possibly $20 (if they don't credit the account until the 2nd month) to get $150 credit on the account makes this an even better deal.

      • Great job!! Was able to do just what you said above. The rep said it was a bit of a loophole but had no issues putting it through.

He said you need to keep it active for 45 days. Also seemed to indicate that the data would be able to be used by my primary sim.

      • I went ahead with what you did and didn't end up receiving the $150 credit. The month-to-month data sim had to be active for at least one month. Chatted to someone on live chat and they clarified the terms and conditions, but gave me a $50 goodwill credit as a consolation prize.

  • +1

Customers who are using Optus for their home internet and landline will be eligible to receive an additional $10 off (only one service) per month.
I was able to pre-order the Nexus 32gb Aluminium for $50 (after $10 discount) for unlimited talk/text, 3gb data and 150 international calls

  • Any deals on the 64gb or 128gb been spotted yet?

  • Looks like a great deal, just wanted to confirm two points:

    1. There's no long term contract - the plan can be cancelled immediately?
    2. Is there any pre-installed Optus bloatware or branding on the phone?
    • +1
      1. Yes. No minimum term :) Can be cancelled immediately.
      2. Nothing confirmed yet, but I'd be surprised, since it is nexus :)
  • +1

This is a great deal for those on optus broadband.
    $50 a month for a Nexus6P with unlimited talk/text and 3GB data….
Not to mention effectively getting the first 3 months of the contract free.

I've had my G4 for under a month and I'm already getting itchy feet.

  • +1

Thanks OP! Didn't buy outright, but on 24mnth plan! Latest phone for $60 per month - it'll do me!

  • what are ppl's thoughts on the Nexus 6P vs Note 5? vs S6?
    Has anyone received one?

    Thanks.

    • +4

I'd take the Nexus 6P out of the 3. Anything is better than Touchwiz imo. :)

FYI for anyone wondering what I was an hour ago:

I just ordered a 32gb aluminium outright from Optus for $744+$30 month to month sim via live chat, as per the OzBargain post. They didn't have black. I'll cancel it in the first month and stay on my Telechoice plan for now. I'll get the bill after I get the phone. Only worry is he said I won't even be emailed an order number for a day or two.

My friend ordered a 32gb black (operator confirmed black even thought their photo shows aluminium, don't trust that 100%) from Virgin via phone, as their add to cart was broken. $744 outright and he didn't even need to buy a sim with it. They seemed to have billed his card on the spot. Phenomenal value there, maybe even slightly cheaper than the US Google price after their tax and conversion.

This was all a nice surprise after the 32gb no shows on the Google site. I'm just hoping any warranty issues will be anywhere near as painless as through Google. Still worth saving $150.

Actually, also hoping my 28 Degrees card shopper's protection will still apply to the phone since I'll be paying it like a phone bill in one go.

    • Virgin/Optus only have Aluminium.

    • Virgin have it in Graphite. How was your friend able to order it already?

    • On the phone with Virgin, they only have it in black and it's $744 outright available for purchase from 2nd Nov.

    • Yeah I know, but not for preorders

    • Under the watchful eye of Google.

It's an amazing phone, I've been playing with one for a few days.

  • I've only owned 2 Huawei phones, and I only owned them temporary. Both Awesome phones for the money. :)

  • -2

Never try Huawei again. Rubbish phone.
Will rather go for LG made 5x or moto made 6.

    • +2

      Huawei phones are good.

However Huawei software (MIUI) is crap. This has stock android so don't have to worry about that!

      • +1

Huawei doesn't run MIUI, that's Xiaomi. Huawei runs "Emotion UI".

  • So when do you guys think this will drop to $500???

    • 18 months or so

    • +1

Within 12 months. Cheaper than nexus 6 on release and that phone has been as low as $400. As soon as next generation come out with s820, people will want them and then demand will drop for this generation phones.

  • +1

So let me get this straight, if I sign on the 24 months plan for $60 a month, I'd get $150 back in actual $$ credits?

    • +1

Only if it's the 2nd plan on your account.

  • whats the $30 sim plan? i saw 3gb somewhere which is pretty sweet…
im not that keen on the phone but might bite/resell

  • +4

Gotta say it's great to see a phone "hack" deal again. OzB used to have one at least quarterly, but this is the first I've seen in 12 months or more.

    • I can't really take credit for it.. Alin13 from whirlpool was the guy who found the deal originally :)

  • +2

I purchased a 64GB 6P direct from Google for $999. Yes it's expensive and if I waited a month or two I would have found it cheaper. However, my experience recently with Google for my daughter's Nexus 5 swayed me to go down the direct path. Her Nexus 5 was playing up (dodgy power button) and I'd read that Google would replace the Nexus no questions asked no matter how old it was if it wasn't physically damaged (only applies to phones purchased directly from the Play Store). The phone was a tick over 18 months old and after a few minutes on the phone to them, a "refurbished" replacement was shipped. It arrived 3 days later - brand new. I like to call the premium my "peace of mind tax".

    • +1

You actually have a 24 month warranty with Google. So you're still covered for another 6 months. Outside of this I think it should be a little harder to have a replacement but they are generally pretty helpful.

I agree with you, I'd rather pay more and have it from Google. I've always had quality issues with my early release nexus phones and it was a breeze to deal with Google. They ship you a new phone. You ship yours back. So you always have a phone.

    • -3

It also depends on how you value your money, $999 for a nexus is just ridiculously expensive. Doesn't matter how good the after sales service is. 18 months later this phone will be worth $250, so it's not that different compared to spending $750 and then if it breaks in the future just buy the same phone again if you don't feel like upgrading to a newer phone. Better yet, optus warranty (or non google warranty in general) may not be as good, but I see no problem getting them to have your phone replaced/fixed if the fault is legitimately covered by warranty.

That said, I personally wouldn't bother with this phone at all as I don't care about stock Android, I'd take a G4 that's half the price with similar specs (and better camera) any day.

  • If someone is interested in a contract I find the Vodafone option much more appealing. The lowest monthly contract is $68 but you can easily get $5 off if you speak to their sales team. For that you get the $64Gb model plus you also get Huawei talkband and case free if you order before 02/11/2015.

    • I spoke to Voda on chat, pointed them to the Optus page and they were willing to match Optus for me, ie $60pm + $0 handset.

  • +3

i was just told you can buy this phone at an optus hop outight for the same price $744 , no sim plan required :)

    • Where did you hear this from?

      • +1

I heard the same thing from a live chat rep. Thing is, you'll need to wait to 2 Nov and hope they don't run out of stock.

  • i was just told you can buy this phone at an optus shop outight for the same price $744 , no sim plan required :)

  • Had bought the Nexus 5x on Google for $739, cancelled that, bought this. Got more "phone" for the same price ($5 difference). Waiting on that confirmation email, but made sure that Optus sent me a record of the chat, that I didn't have to pay anything extra on my plan. Happy dance!!!!

    • I cant find the chat area/section to order?!
I had to call them and the guy on the phone/Ben, still looking for the deal!!!
Hope that i can get this one.
      LOL

    • What do you mean by not having to pay extra on your plan? :)

      • I am on a month by month $35 sim only plan. They didn't ask me to go on a 12 or 24 month plan, etc.

        • I am currently on 24 months plan with Optus, so I assume if I buy this phone outright from them I do not need to pay the $30 sim cost just like you. Am I right?

        • +1

@beoluch: Yup. Make sure you confirm that on the chat, and get them to send the chat transcript to your email, as proof…

        • @man2000:

Awesome dude! Unfortunately they don't have the black colour one, so I need to think about it

  • Just ordered one :)

  • Anyone know if you can still claim TRS on this deal or if you can through Vodafone/Virgin? This deal does include the $30 plan which I have a feeling won't allow a TRS claim.

    • but youre also paying 700 for the phone outright - which includes GST

this should show on the invoice.

  • Called optus. Rep was super helpful and was going to push it through but a couple of questions got raises with the whole process:

    1) you need to do a credit check to push this through. He said something about cancelling the order later may flag on your history.
    2) he couldn't confirm there would be a warranty on the phone if I cancelled the $30 sim only plan. He said no one asked that question.

    Thoughts?

  • Update as of this morning: Your order has been sent to our warehouse for packaging.

    ;)

  • Your order has been sent to our warehouse for packaging - Awesome!

  • Your order is on the road and should be with you in the next 24-48 hours (for metro areas). Australia Post will send you an SMS on the day of delivery. Remember to have photo ID handy to receive your order. - Yay!!

    • Saw that also lets hope we get it Monday. Waiting eagerly for the SMS.

    • Chatted with the Optus guys. Figured out better tracking using the same Order Number through
      http://sttrackandtrace.startrack.com.au

  • Any word on graphite (aka black) becoming available through Optus?

  • Any reviews on Camera quality as Compared to S6 ? This Optus deal looks tempting :)

  • +1

    mine just arrived :D

    • Does it have optus apps/bloatware on it?

      • +1

        none :)

  • Anyone got their phone yet?
Will this available in store this week?

  • ok been on the phone for an hour with optus, they list this as "Wha's in the box";

    Nexus 6P
    Charger
    USB cable (1.2m type-C)
    USB cable (0.3m type-A to type-C)
Quick Start Guide and Safety Information
    Card eject sheet
    Warranty card
    Google™ Play Music card
    Earphones and case

Opening my box I did not receive Card eject sheet, Google™ Play Music card or Earphones and case, after a long conversation with the consultant she is seeing what she can do as I didn't want to wait for another one seeing they are currently out of stock at the warehouse.

    • where did you hear they're out of stock?

I'm pretty annoyed as my order still says its waiting for the warehouse, whereas a mate who ordered a day later has a consignment number.

      • +1

from the optus sales rep when she said she wanted to send me another one, but there was none in warehouse at the moment, but she also said that they'll be only a few days, but because I've only got 9 days before the other sim needs to be paid, I want to get this one running so didn't want them to send me a new phone.

        • My mate actually recieved his order, only to find that it was the sim and not the phone. He's on back order, but they couldnt give him a date.

        • @takezo: Same hey. Waited at home for the delivery to find out it was only the data sim card :(

    • +1

I don't think nexus phones comes with earphones.

      • well optus are advertising it does, we'll see what they do

        • I got mine today and it did come with headphones and the music trial, although it doesn't seem to have a code or anything for it.

        • What sort of ear phones does it come with? any chance of a pic? Thanks in advance.

        • any updates on the earphones? or you have given up… I am on the phone with their rep at this very moment. I got my handset, but no earphone nor case…

        • After looking at the local shopping centre, including Optus shop, no one yet has a case for sale, so the rep and I just settled on a case from Google store, I have the Speck CandyShell Grip Case on the way. I'm not worrying about the earphones, don't really use and well, got a good case for nix.

          Case link: https://store.google.com/product/speck_candyshell_grip_case_…

        • @qw394003276:

It is stated on the Optus Nexus 6P webpage that a case and headphones are included. So make sure you point it out to them!
