Sounds good apart from the hard drive!

    • I bought it but still not sure if I did the right thing. So asking the Ozbargain brethren for feedback :D

Perhaps I should have gone for the 2 in 1 version for $1200 when it was down from $1500.

      • +5

Just take out the HDD and put in one of the 9000 SSD deals that come onto this site every day. It will be the best and easiest thing you ever do (You just need the right screwdriver and youtube videos of someone else doing it, if you are a beginner).

        Good deal though.

Also could swap it for the SSD version (if it's better build/slimmer?)

        • These spec's are overkill for me. I would be using this for.

          Web browsing
          Youtube
          FHD content
          Ozbargain
          Excel

The lack of numpad is a concern with the last one though.

          I needed these specs

          FHD Touch Display
          i3 - i5
          8 GB Ram
          512GB SSD
          Integrated Graphics.

          No manufacturer makes these specs.

        • +2

          @El Grande:

Ahh fair, the numpad may be crucial. But you an always get external wireless ones now. The specs seem great for under $1000. At JB Hifi they sell the i7, 8gb, 1TB for $999 retail, so this is a steal (you have got… FHD, higher GFX, higher ram).

I would still change the harddrive to an SSD. Then either put the HDD into a CDDrive internal enclosure (and take out your CD drive) or put it into a external enclosure, to make a portable drive.

          The SSD is crucial.

@El Grande: how dare you put ozbargain on the 4th!?

      • 1k for an integrated gpu and i7 in a 4K laptop is killer don't worry you made the right choice. I paid 900 for an i5, no gpu, 1080p and a dodgy wifi card.

        • +1

          Its 1080P not 4K

        • 2K

        • still a good deal man

        • +1

I think you mean dedicated GPU

        • yeah man

I bought this model during EOFY for $1200 from Dell which was on sale from the retail price of $1500. Because of the hard disk it is not that fast and it comes with 2 GPUs so you have to add any games or graphics intensive program manually to the AMD card. (Even civilization 5 couldn't load with the integrated graphic card). Even though it looks good in spec I am not that impressed with its performance. It has the same keypad as Dell 13" so bit small for a 15 inch laptop. The letters in the webpages will look small and you have to manually adjust to increase the font size.
I can't fault the touch screen even though I don't use it that much. The upper body is of aluminium and the bottom of the laptop is made of plastic. I haven't swapped the hard disk.

I am not an expert in computers, so in my conclusion it not a bad laptop but don't expect too much from it.

  • Store in title please!

  • Any convertibles on special, looking for one or just might buy surface pro 3

    • Inspiron 15 7000 2 in 1 version was for $1200 down from $1500. i5 Skylake 8GB Ram and 265 SSD.

  • Dam it not 4k option to customize in entire dell site…

    • +5

4K version is not good with scaling.

  • Almost makes my $1199 XPS 13 look underwhelming.

  • +1

Mail in warranty? Ouch.. They really neutered this one!

    • I think you are right. Used to come with Pro support?

      • Looks like "mail in" is the standard warranty for their consumer range. I'd opt for the Pro if you have the choice though, definitely worth it. Also helps you skip a heap of the stupid questions - eg. have you reinstalled Windows?

  • When will this deal end? Looking to buy sometime this week.

  • I have 15 5000 series. I would avoid all previous years inspiron model because it has many issues like track pad tap & scroll randomly stops, lots of blue screen with many antivirus (bitdefender 2016) and softwares. Sometimes wireless card (wifi) issue with this inspiron series.

The trackpad issue has made me so made that makes me through the laptop away, either I have to put it on sleep or restart for it to work. The work around was to put thick plastic screen to solve the issue, even then, the problem didn't go away completely. Dell itself had replaced the trackpad 3 times and looks like the issue cannot be solved either by driver or hardware change. It is sort of permanent issue.

    • I had an inspiron 15R which died after 3 years. It also suffered from Bad Wifi and Trackpad.

Wifi can be fixed. Get a 2X2 card 7265AC maybe.

Trackpad I am hoping has come good hopefully. Dell offer free returns within the first 15 days so that is always an option.

    • +1

I beg to differ…I own an inspiron 17" since 2006, it still running good on win7 64bit these days

The only issue i have is lost one of USB port, due to wear and tear over all these years

put the cost aside, I still prefer the XPS series though, light in weight!

      • I am not talking about 2000-2008 series but 2014 and perhaps 2015 ones.

    • i bought one late last year and have had zero problems. track pad is great, everything works well - 1,2,3,4 finger gestures, touchscreen, wifi.

worked well with win8.1 and is great with win10.

  • Not bad at all. Only 2.06 kgs, and looks pretty nice too. Good alternative to the XPS 15.

Note that this is the R7 M270 (not the R9 version) so this is ranked ~180th (not far from nvidia's 920m)

  • the screen is really really nice. with $500 off, this is absolutely a bargain.

    • Have you seen it in person?

      • yes, i was looking at this during EOFY ebay sale. but the cash discount gone when the 20% off activated and went up to 1500. So i end up bought a Toshiba touch screen laptop which is a mistake.

        • +3

You saw it in person.. On eBay?

        • +1

          @systmworks:
I have it. I bought it for this price from the outlet.

Screen is pretty nice. Perfect size/resolution in my opinion, better size than MBP 13" I had, but also better resolution for general computer work. Colours are probably not as perfect as MBP, but no noticeable difference to my eyes, it's miles better than most $1K HP/Toshiba screens. Touchscreen comes in far more handy than I thought it would too, very nice for a quick zoom or scroll.

Keyboard/mouse is nice, backlit which I now find essential in a laptop. Weight and balance are also fine, in fact, build quality is probably the biggest surprise of this laptop, I thought I was buying a cheap build with big specs, but it overall feels solid and looks nice too. Not top of the range solid, but much better than most HP/Toshibas you see in stores.

I know I need to put a SSD in this thing, it's really slow to boot sometimes, but once booted it's quick at almost everything. I've tried literally two games, one was laggy, one not. Even though it's a dedicated GPU, be warned that it's below average for gaming still. Battery is about average too. You easily get 4-5 hours of general work/internet, just need to make sure you don't come back a 2nd night without charging it, you'll have little juice left.

        • @sb944: How is the touchpad?

  • Anyone know if this is touch screen??
    Aluminium body?

    • Anyone know if this is touch screen?? - Yes
Aluminium body? - Yeas?? Aluminium + Plastic I think.

  • Only has 1 USB 2.0 and 1 USB 3.0 that's poor IMO.

    • Actually there are 3 ports:
      USB 3.0 with PowerShare (1)
      USB 3.0 (1)
      USB 2.0 (1)

  • Thanks OP!

  • gawd the way they list 4k in the headline is misleading (dell not the op!).thanks op.

    • agreed ! I'm still trying to work out how they can mention 4k at all.

      • I think it's a copy paste job from Dell. There appears to be a model that has a 4k screen and 256gb ssd. However when you click on the link to it, it still goes to the deal model.

  • Thanks OP - great deal!

Regarding cashback with Cashrewards - is the cashback amount calculated inclusive of GST at 5%? (i.e. $999 x 5% = $49.95 cashback)
I used Pricepal and the cashback calculated did not include GST. (i.e. $908.18 x 5.4% = $49.04 cashback)

    Edit - found my answer
from Cashrewards site - "Rewards are payable on eligible purchases not including freight, delivery, taxes and GST "

  • Love the look of that XPS 13. Notice they have become virtually unconfigurable on the site, which I think means they're clearing them out to make way for a the latest update.

  • damn damn damn.. i bought this yesterday and didnt think to check cashrewards.. boo!

  • Not a bad deal compared to this Thinkpad E450 bargain
    Touchscreen , good advantage.
    16gb ram for chrome-multiludicrous tab-er
    slightly better gpu

    15.6 screen abit bulky
slow hard drive but replaceable with frequent SSD bargain

    Any more input folks?

  • Hmm tempted. so many complaints about the trackpad though. Even with the Inspiron 7000 7559 I was looking at, a lot were complaining about the trackpad.

  • +1

Damn you Ozbargain! I just bought this. Now I have to work out a way to tell my wife.

    • Is it replacing an old one? Just tell her its the same old laptop.. she might not notice :)

Or tell her you bought her a cool present (its a laptop!) - she cant get mad if you bought her a present.

      • Haha I like the latter since I broke her (very) old laptop recently. Nah she's cool. She'll just go buy a new handbag or two to even it out.

    • +1

      Buy her one as well.

  • Does anyone know how much it weighs?

    • 2.11 Kg i think. Fairly light

  • +2

I've got a Inspiron 15R SE that I've had for a few years now - absolutely love the thing. Unfortunately, the screen is on its way out (pink and purple for 5 minutes when booting before it displays normally). I was simply going to replace the screen, but this is also looking attractive. Gah… decisions!

    Great deal OP!

  • To buy or not to buy? Heard negative comments about screen brightness and touch pad. But I am in desperate need of laptop with similar configuration.

    • Touchpad looks bad but not everyone has this issue. Works fine with Windows 10 stock drivers. I read it on YouTube comments so don't quote me on it.

  • Bought. But still didn't got any orders in my order status. money in bank not deducted. In paypal transaction is showing as pending. I got the email with internet reference number. Can anyone tell me when the order will be confirmed and has anyone received the laptop?

    • I bought on 26th still saying WIP.

  • I am flying out on 28/12/15. Can I still refund GST in the airport if I buy it today? (within 60 days)

Will the Tax Invoice show the date for today or the date it's processed?

Clarification needed as the deal ends tonight….

    • Tax invoice is created after its delivered. Confirmed with Dell.

      • Thanks El Grande. Placed the order.

        Thanks OP

  • Can this Dell play smooth 4K video and do 4K output through HDMI to 4K tv?

  • Would be this be a reasonable choice and/or competitor for video editing/photo editing compared to a Mbp?

  • Price increased. Mark as expired.

  • We need a good deal on ~500gb SSD…

  • Can anyone tell how long it takes to get tracking email from cash rewards. I bought this laptop on 29th October, still no email from cash rewards.

    • I could see the money 10 mins later email came 1 Hr and 15 Mins later.

  • I clicked though cash rewards. There must be something wrong with tracking. I have sent them message regarding this. whats the possibility of me getting the cashback?

  • I have received a call from DELL saying they don't have the stock and therefore cancelled my order. Has anyone got the order cancelled? Anything I can do?

    • When did you placed the order and what time today you got the call?

      • 29/10/2015 at 11:37 PM (Deal ends 23 mins after I placed the order)

Paypal stated PENDING since the order was placed

Received email and call at 1:47m on 02/11

Don't think I can do much at all. The new one is priced at $1,899 with only 8GB RAM….

    • Received an email just now offering 5000 Series with DVD and 2TB but take away touch screen comparing to 7000 Series at the same price of $999.

Is this a similar deal? Should I take up this offer?

      http://m.dell.com/mt/www.dell.com/au/p/inspiron-15-5558-lapt…

      • Hey there,

where did you see the deal for $999?

I'm very interested in the computer you linked to, but the price comes up as $1,690.

        • Dell cancelled my Inspiron 15 7000 $999 order (see details in OP's post) due to insufficient stock. Therefore they counter-offer 5000 series for the same price. This offer is not available to others.

        • @cheaper: I would push to get the new 7000 2 in 1. Even if you have to pay a couple of hundred more.

        • Thanks for the recommendation.

Well, my budget is $999 so that I have settled with 15 5000. I can insert a lower capacity SSD into the DVD slot to make it a faster machine and also make a good use of 2TB HD space.

My one will be delivered on 17/11.

  • Anyone got the computer yet? I was supposed to get it today but Toll Fast driver said I was not home when I clearly was.

The thing that makes me mad is that it clearly says on the tracking

    11:53 Melbourne Airport
11:55 At my house (other side of Melbourne).

So I called Toll Fast and after putting me on hold for 30 mins the lady said, "the driver has assured me he came down to your house but forgot to leave a card behind. We can redeliver it on Monday or you can pick it up on Monday"

    • +1

They are all liars because they know there is no way to prove otherwise.

  • Received mine today and it won't even boot up. Repeated 8 beeps due to an apparent LCD problem. Great quality cpntrol Dell :(

    • Mine has a faulty left speaker. Logged it with dell.

  • Got mine last week. No problems here.

    • Do you have a black band on the screen where the plastic bezel ends and screen starts.

      It goes like

      1) Bezel (plastic part on the screen)
      2) Black band on the glass (Screen)
      3) Actual screen

      Maybe mine has scaling problem

      • post the picture. I will get mine tommorow. How will you rate the laptop.

        • The computers seems well built. Faulty left speaker out of the box low sound and crackles.

The screen has this band like it is under scanning.

          https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tgOMEAM6YGk

You can see it at 6:44

        • @El Grande: Hi El , I got my laptop as well today and has same problem of black band on glass and no sound from the speakers. Do you have any resolution??

        • @El Grande: speakers are working. when i plugged in headphones, sound started coming from speakers.

        • @pluto: Mine are working too but left one is blown.

I think the black band is a design thing so you can swipe in from the edge without having to touch the plastic. It doesn't look that great though. The 4K version has edge to edge glass whereas the 1080P has plastic bezel.

        • @El Grande: can you recommend any case or skin for this laptop to protect lid.

  • So my laptop is having a weird issue.. I think the touch screen is busted.. Trying to get a replacement.

    Everyone else happy with theirs?

    • I am returning mine. The border is bothering me.

Ordered Inspiron 15 7000 2 in 1 version during the ebay 20% off deal.

Touch is fine. Laptop is a little slow.

      • SSD upgrade should fix that..

Planning on doing some gaming, so the 2 in 1 won't cut it for me.

        • +1

Yeah I know. This was a overkill for me. I won't game on my laptop. I have ps4 for that.

I travel overseas a couple of times a year 12-16 hr journey. I like to play age of empires during the flight which the 2 in 1 can handle.

          The way I see it.

For the same money I am losing

          • i7 (5th gen) for i5 (6th gen) = Doesn't mean much in performance for my use.

          • AMD graphics for Dedicated = Non Issue

          Gaining

          • SSD for HDD = I value space over speed but my 4 year old inspiron with 4 GB ram booted faster and was snappier. SSD should do the trick.

          • 2 in 1 = New toy.

        • @El Grande:

          Agree with your reasoning 100%

          Enjoy it :)

        • @Vampyr:

Driver_Power_State_Failure. Right out of the box.
          USB ports not working
WIFI fails 30 seconds after connecting. Wireless card vanishes from the device manager.

Called Dell 2 Hrs on the phone. They want to replace the laptop. Will take 15 days. Pending approval.

Is dell rubbish now or am I the only one having problems with them?

        • @El Grande:

Wow.. That sucks. Looks like QC isn't great ATM'S.
